I don't believe we are related, but we had a friend whose maiden name was Haut. Her name was Nilah Eldridge. She was married to Joe Eldridge and lived in the Chicago area. Both are now deceased. They had two daughters, but I don't remember their names. I know some of the other Eldridges and could probably find out.

My husband's father was Bernhard Haut of Michigan. His father was Charles and his grandfather was Ludwig.
Death of Mrs. Haut after giving birth to twins in late 1907 (Sheboygan, WI)

In looking at some old newspapers I saw a story of a man (Haut) from Plymouth, WI who was charged with cruelty to his wife and newly born twins resulting in Mrs. Haut’s death in the fall of 1907. The twins were taken to the homes of a brother and a sister of Mrs. Haut.

The "problem" with this story is that I have seen conflicting facts:In the 4/14/1908 issue, the Sheboygan Daily Press refers to the case as “State of Wisconsin vs. HERMAN Haut" but on 4/17/1908 the case is referred to as “State of Wisconsin vs. WILLIAM Haut” in the same newspaper. Then on 5/6/1908 when the sentencing is published it says "HERMAN Haut was given a two month sentence in jail".

Okay....so my questions are:1. Has anyone heard of this case?2. Is it really HERMAN Haut?3. What was Mrs. Haut first name? Catharine?4. Does anyone know the names of these twins?Hopefully someone has heard about this and can help me unearth the truth.

Peter Haut (now, Haught) landed in 1751. He is listed as being born in Rotterdam, but the truth is more likely that he was born in a part of France known as Allsace. He was of German descent - his father's name is Johannes Haut (b. 1681 in Germany) Prior to Johannes, the Haut's fought in the Crusades and were considered noble ordinaries - which is to say they were regular people with higher status.
I am a direct descendent of Peter Haut's first marriage.
Hope this helps.
I have been looking everywhere for information on Rosa Columbia Wright who was married to Ira Newton Haught. My grandmother is Francis Haught (Frankie).

My father's (Fred Haut) parents (Matias Haut/Mary Elizabeth Mikesh) were both born in Prague, Czechoslovokia. Moved with respective parents to Chicago, IL around 1971. Mary born 2/13/1857 was 14 when her family came to Chicago. Perhaps Matias had a brother named Joseph? Matias was born 5/27/1859.

Peter Haut I

I have an ancestor names Elizabeth Haught who was born in Rotterdam, Holland, in 1748. She married Richard Tennant who was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1744; died in 1794. They had a son named Peter Tennant who was born in 1773, died in 1847, who married Elizabeth Brown. She was born in 9/1774; died 6/2/1867 in Fayette County, PA.
Peter Tennant and Elizabeth Brown Tennant had a son names Nimrod "Squire Nim" Tennant who married Millie Wilson. Millie was born 2/29/1812; died 9/19/1881. Nimrod and Millie had a daughter Melissa Tennant who was born in 1837. Melissa married Christopher McCoy (no dates); had a daughter Emelia McCoy.

I am not sure if these people are ancestors of Elbert McCord who is my paternal grandfather. I'm still looking.

Peter Haut I

I have the supposedly complete family Haut history. The name decends into my father's family as Haught.

Peter Haut I was born at Rotterdam, Holland in 1720. He married there about 1747, and sailed from there for America on the Ship Patience, whose captain was Hugh Steele. He landed at Philadelphia on September 9, 1951 with his wife and daughter Elizabeth.

In a list of German accent passengers there is this record: "Sept. 9, 1751, Ship Patience Captain Hugh Stele from Rotterdam, last from Cowes. Two hundred fifty-five passengers, eight Roman Catholics."

It goes on to say that he settled near the present town of Moorefield, in what is now Hardy County, West Virginia, at some time prior to 1755.

This goes on. I hope that this will be of some help to you...........M. Gates
