I recently bought a pencil sketch by Chief Marcellus Hawk while I was in Florida. Because the sketch was of an NYPD Police Officer, I presumed Chief Hawk was a Police Chief! I guess he wasn't. (How funny!) I would love to learn more about Chief Hawk and will be happy to email a copy of the sketch to you. I was planning to post it onto my Facebook page anyway. I am trying to trace the identity of the Officer as well. There is currently a sketch by Chief Hawk listed on eBay; it is of a Vargas-type pin up girl, but only a facial portrait. It's quite adorable. Thank you in advance. samkatz@nycdetectives.org
My Hoffman connection is thru a John Peter Hoffman (i suspect was born about 1709 nt having researched this line myself) and I sense was the fathr was Christian -- was his (John Peter) wife's name Maria Snyder ? One of their daughters married a Ludwig Sheetz and then the line goes into the Riegle family and then the Dockey family. Quite probably we are related then thru the Hoffman family.
Joseph was born20 August 1914 (Derry Twp., Dauphin County) and died 9 December 2011 in the Masonic Homes of Elizabethtown. His first wife (and mother of his two daughers Marcia and Nancy) was Margaret Hunsberger, born 3 June 1909 and died 12 April 1985. His second wife was Ester M. Nye, born 21 Septemger 1917 and died 13 April 2005. They (all 3) were interred in the Grandview Cemetery outside of Annville. I ried to get some information from Nancy on her line and Marcia's line but no response -- mabe an out fashioned phone to find out if she will respond

Yes, Anna Salome Hoffman was my G.Grandmother, Wilbur's 2nd wife. She lived to be 100 years and 1 month. I knew her well. Her daughter - Joseph's half sister was my Grandmother (Anna Virginia Hawk Ecker). She passed 2 years ago just shy of her 94th birthday. My Mother was Anna Virginia Nash Ecker, Elliott, Hicks. She passed in May of 2007 at the age of 73. You and I are cousins twice or thrice removed. The graveyard on Powells Valley Road has many many Hoffmans including Christian and his family. I have pictures of the headstones. I have not spoken to my G. Uncle yet but will gladly contact you again when I get more info. There stacks of letters dating from the early 1800's to 1930's in the attic at the farm, but they mysteriously dissapeared with other items over the years.

I may be a bit slow at time -- I am wondering if Wilbur's second wife was Anna Hoffman -- I have Hoffman ancestor's (I haven't proven this - just off internet data -- I wonder if she and I might be related thru the Hoffman family.
My G.G. Grandmother also worked for Hershey. I met my G. Uncle Joseph on several occasions at the farm. He was half brother to my Grandmother Anna Virginia Hawk who passed almost 2 years ago. He looked just like Da (Wilbur). Are you interested in Da's side of the family? I can scan and email bits and pieces to you. I am also in possession of one of the old family bibles...info there as well.

Just one - a son named Joseph who died recently - in February - will have to check my notes and find out - he was a half brother to my father -- there is a story that Wilbur and my grandmother didn't divorce until several years after they separated and before she married my grandfather.
My belief is that your great-grandfather was employed by the Hershey interests as was my grandmother (she worked in the chocolate factory and my grandfather was a "pipefitter" there --another name for a plumber.)

Hi, I was fortunate enough to know my Great Grandparents as an adult, I loved them very much.... but Part of the story is that apparently Wilbur was not married to my G.Grandmother until after she had given birth to 2 children.(I believe that is when he was in France-WW1) I will ask my G.Uncle Bob if he can clarify anything for us. How many children did your Grandmother and my G.Grandfather have? names? Do you live in PA?
George and Mary McCarver Hawk are my direct descendants. they were married in Grainger tennessee in 16 Mar 1804. I have traced them back to Mcminville Tennessee. There is also a Jacob Hawk family there too and todate I have found no connection between the two. There were seven children, one baby died, so six children. I come though William who married Nancy Rayburn. I am looking for ancestry of George
probably thru VA, maybe abington. It seems facts are in short supply. James D. Hawk

JOSEPH & MARIA "MARY" HAWK

I'm looking for parents and information on JOSEPH HAWK & his wife, MARIA "MARY" (Maiden name unknown)and all their descendants. I'm interested in birth, marriage, death dates & places and burial sites. Also in full names & maiden names, if possible. From the 1850 Census through to the 1880 Census records, they were residing in Luzerne County, PA; the Post Office being Conyngham. Birth dates and birth states (NJ & PA) seem to vary for them on each census record; but I believe JOSEPH HAWK was born about 1806 in Sussex County, NJ & that his wife, MARIA "MARY" (Maiden name unknown) was born circa 1810 in Luzerne County, PA. The children that I have found for JOSEPH & MARIA "MARY" HAWK on the 1850 & 1860 Census records are: LURINA HAWK (given name may possibly have been misspelled by the enumerator), b. abt. 1832 in NJ; ELLEN HAWK, b. abt. 1835 in NJ; CHRISTIANA HAWK, b. abt. 1836 in PA; HIRAM HAWK (My niece's line)b. August 1841 in Luzerne County, PA; & DIANA HAWK, b. abt. 1846 in PA. HIRAM & his wife, MARY C. (Maiden name unknown), b. December 1847 in Allentown, Lehigh County, PA had 16 children; three of these children died before the taking of the 1900 census (Given names unknown). The remainder OF HIRAM & MARY C. HAWK's children were: WILLIAM H. HAWK, b. abt. 1867 in Luzerne County, PA; STELLA HAWK, b. abt. 1869 in PA; AARON C. HAWK, b. abt. 1870 in PA; ELDRIDGE HAWK (My niece's line), b. abt. 1872 in PA, married LILLIAN M. (Maiden name unknown), b. abt. 1874 in PA (Family moved to NJ); LAURA HAWK, b. abt. 1874 in PA; GEORGE HAWK, b. abt. 1876 in PA; HARRY HAWK, b. August 1877 in PA; JOSEPH HAWK, b. April 1880 in Luzerne County, PA; ALBURN HAWK, b. August 1883 in PA; EDWIN HAWK, b. January 1885 in PA; & REBECCA HAWK, b. October 1888 in PA. HIRAM & MARY C. HAWK & their family resided in Sugarloaf Township (PO: Conyngham) in 1870; 1880: Eckley, Luzerne County, PA; 1900: Philadelphia, PA.
Their son & daughter-in-law, ELDRIDGE & LILLIAN M. HAWK resided in Lower Township, Cape May County, NJ in 1910 and later lived in Rio Grande, Middle Township, Cape May County, NJ in 1920 & 1930. ELDRIDGE & LILLIAN's children were: ROY HAWK, b. abt. 1891 in PA; ESTELLA HAWK, b. abt. 1893 in PA; EDWARD HAWK, b. abt. 1893 in PA; MARION HAWK, b. abt. 1898 in PA; GRACE HAWK, b. abt. 1905 in PA; TRELLA HAWK, b. abt. 1909 in PA or NJ; REBECCA HAWK, b. abt. 1911 in NJ; FLORENCE HAWK, b. abt. 1914 in NJ; & PRESTON HAWK, b. abt. 1917 in NJ. Any information on this HAWK line would be appreciated or if you are related, please let me know.

I am researching my husband's family in Tennessee.

James M. Hawk(1861-1934) m. Cordia/Corda Demton
children: Erful, J.E., Ruby

James M. Hawk's father is
James Hawk born abt. 1837, married first wife Christine Adden/Adams 8 Oct. 1859
children: John A., James M., Lydia M., Jesse W, Eliza J.
second wife: Eliza J. Harkleroad (married 1874) child: Rosanna

I do not know what happened to Christina and I have been unable to found out who are the parents of James (1837). As far as I can tell these were born in Tennessee...mostly East Tennessee.

I would appreciate any info.
Thanks, Peggy
pannhawk11@aol.com

I am currently researching the Tunstill line. I married into it and am trying to give my children a complete family tree. My Father-in-law is James A Tunstill he was born in Decatur AL in either 1928 or 1929 ( he is still alive but not the most forthcoming with information) His parents were William L Tunstill and Fannie ( I believe Fannie Lawrence) the children of William and Fannie are : Nellie Tunstill, Ernest Tunstill, Lois Tunstill, Gernie Tunstill, and then My father-in-law James. So what I have on the male line looks like this so far: James A Tunstill -> William Tunstill -> Edward Tunstill and then James E Tunstill who was married to Elizabeth Isaphena Hawk .... If any of these names are on your tree and you can help me out I'd greatly appreciate it. I was also told once that the Tunstill and Tunstalls are one family but two of the brothers had a fight and so one changed the name by one letter so they'd not be the same ( based on the Tunstill men I know, this story isn't so far fetched) Again. I'd be happy with any information that moves me further along.
Jeannie
I hope that by 2011 you have found out something about your Hawk line. If you haven't, I, too, am a Hawk descendant through my grandmother Lucinda Hawk Fisher, and have some info, pictures, and a book on the David Hawk family. The Hawk family was LARGE, so you'd probably find Hawks all over the USA!

Carol Fisher O'Melia Warren, Ohio

Hawk Family Photos

Hi, I purchased a lot of Hawk family photos at a local antique fair this weekend (Coburg, OR). Photos included are of Ann Sarah (Hawk) Davis (1910-2009), a few of her brother Sharon Heilman Hawk (1897-1987) and his family including 3 photos of his daughter Joane. There is also a photo that came in the lot that I have not yet figured out her relation: Artha Brown "daughter of Marie VanDermark (Hawk)". Sharon and Anne's parents are Simon McClellan Hawk and Malinda Jane MacGregor who started out in Pennsylvania and ended up in Medford, Oregon.

If you would like the original photo, I am NOT related and am trying to get the photograph to someone who is related and would want it. I am not trying to make a profit and just ask that you reimburse the money I spent ($3 to $4 per photo) and shipping costs. If you are interested, just let me know! :)Jessica

Photos attached are: Sharon Hawk Family (Sharon, Joane, Pearl, and Jackie). Pearl and Sharon Hawk. Ann (Hawk) Davis. The 3 photos of the little girl are of Joane.

I am researching the line of Conrad Hawk, 1744, in Monroe County, PA.
Although family trees have Samuel Hawk, 1707, as his father, I am unable to document this. I would appreciate any information on this line and particularly documentation of Samuel Hawk as father, Conrad's land grant documentation and information on the family in Germany and immigration. Any photos would be fantastic. I am the great grandaughter of Christianna Hawk. Thank you.
Hello. My mother's mother and grandmother were Hawks. My great grandmother - Esther Hawk married Charlie Hawk. I know a great deal about her because she lived til 1 month before her 112th birthday. I know virtually nothing about her husband as he was shot in 1915. I found what I think are a few records on him, but then the trail goes dry. They were from Edison, GA. One of her daughters - Emma Hawk - moved to Newark, NJ in the early 20's or so. One of her sons is still living - Leroy Hawk. He lives in FL and is 102. I need to take a trip to see him this summer to look at some pictures and hear more stories. Do you know the Hawks from Edison, GA?
James Byron Hawks Sr. is my father. He was born Dec 18, 1916 in Indiana and passed away in 1985 in Springfield, Ohio. Since this is an answer to your 2007 message, What information do you need now and I will see if I can answer them? At this time I am still seeking information on my G-Grandfather Thomas Hawk.

This is amazing that my daughter stumbled upon this. This is my family history. If you know anything about anyone on here I would love to hear about it. My father is James Byron Hawks JR. Does anyone know why my Grandfather changed our last name to Hawks? I notice his siblings didn't change theirs.

Re: W R Hawk

I believe Obbie lived in Stone County, Mississippi in 1930 census. The W probably stands for Walter since a grandson and great-grandson of W. R. Hawk both had the first name of Walter. Grandson was Walter Clarence Hawk (Obbie's son and lived for a long time in Jackson, MS and died (1985?) in Cottonwood, Arizona) who married Mary Helen Fears (she lived in Bentonia, MS while growing up). Her father owned Fears Cafe. They had one child, a son - Walter Thomas (Tommy) Hawk born 11-27-51. He married Rosa Cazares and they had a daughter named Mary and a son. They lived in the Houston/Pasadena areas in Texas and he worked for Delta Airlines. Tommy passed away after suffering ALS in 1998.
