Pronounced Hawkin spelled HAUGHIAN

I recently found a woman of Irish descent married to a Leonard HAUGHIAN. I was surprised that the name HAUGHIAN was Irish, so surprised that I got into learning something about the name.

The first question was how do you pronounce this name?

Googled “Haughian is pronounced” and got
1. “Haughian (pronounced Hoin)";

2. "Haughian (pronounced High-an, in the Gaelic fashion)";

3. "Haughian pronounced Hawkin".

Since Ancestry does not list the origin of the name I will continue with information from the Google search.

"Ó hEochagáin is a distinct surname, similarly derived and found in Galway and Mayo*. It was anglicised as O'Houghegan and sometimes as O'Haughian and even Hawkins (which name may also have alternative origins)". * counties in Ireland

So then the question was what do I do with this information? I thought to post it to the Hawkin and Hawkins message boards because there probably was some segment which decided to change the spelling to Hawkin or Hawkins so the uninitiated could pronounce it.

I imagine someone might have also changed the name to Hoin.

Hope this information is of benefit to someone along the line.

Charley & Malinda Hawkins Cherokee Co AL.

I am searching for anyone that might have information about Charley W Hawkins and wife Malinda. They were living in Cedar Bluff, Cherokee Co Al in 1910 census also the 1920 census. Malinda died in 1927 and a few years later Charley married Addie Pierce. They also lived in Cedar Bluff. Charley died in 1941. Charley and Malinda raised my grandmother from an infant of only 3 or 4 months. If anyone know anything about this couple please contact me at lindsaybnc@bellsouth.net
