Shelley, I have been working on and off on Hawkins genealogy for Abel & Sarah (Josselyn) Hawkins. I have contacts from decendants so far from the first four of their children (all sons):

Abel Merrit Nawkins's branch (1st son)
Moses Lindsey Hawkins' branch (2nd son)
Julius Jay Hawkins' branch (3rd son -- my branch)
William Franklin Hawkins' branch (4th son)..

You were the first one I heard from about William Franklin's branch. Now my friend/relative from Moses Lindsey's branch put me in touch with a second descendant from William Franklin's branch. I don't know if he posts on bulletin boards. If not, do you have an email or something that you wouldn't mind sharing? (I'm not a paying member of ancestry so if you do have an email, I don't see it.) He is from Michigan as is the lady from Moses Lindsey Hawkins' branch. I don't know how much he knows, but perhaps you two need to exchange info...

Brooksville is in Morgan County, which is where my Hawkins ancestors lived. I'm at a brick wall with mine for the moment and all I have is this: James Houston (Huse) Hawkins (WWI), b. 12-20-1895, d. 3-11-1990, married Etta Lillian Louvinia Shelton, b. 8-30-1901, d. 10-15-1991, and they lived in Trinity, Morgan County, Alabama. They were my great grandparents. I know who their children are/were, and those from my grandmother (their daughter), and that's it. They lived in Trinity, which is a little west of Decatur. Hope to hear from you!!

Hawkins Families in Detroit, MI

Greetings,

I am researching a Hawkins family that may have lived in Detroit, or the surrounding area, in the early 1960s. Specifically, I'm researching a Lonnie (Lonny) Hawkins, who may have lived in Detroit in 1962.

Lonnie may or may not be a nickname, I don't know. It might possibly be a nickname for Alonzo, but might also be a nickname for another name, or a middle name.

The Lonnie Hawkins I'm looking for may have served in the military, and may have attended or graduated from college.

Lonnie Hawkins may also have been fair of complexion (blond, blue-eyed).

I would appreciate any information or any leads for my search; I am starting from scratch!

Greetings. I am wondering about "Hawkins" in Detroit. I am searching for a Lonnie (Lonny) HawkIns who would have lived in or near Detroit in 1962.

He would have been white, likely fair-complected (blond, blue) and may have been in the military and may possibly have attended or graduated college.

I appreciate any information anyone out there has!

I am searching for a Lonnie (Lonny) Hawkins who would have lived in Detroit (or close by) in 1962 (or the early 1960s). He may or may not be living. The Lonnie Hawkins I'm researching would be Caucasian and, if still living, would be in his early to mid-70s now, in 2012.

It's possible that he may have served in the military (the Air Force?), and may possibly have attended or graduated college.

It's also possible that he may have been fair-complected.

I would appreciate any information or leads. Clearly, I am starting from scratch.

Hello my name is melvin lewis. i noticed you said that your grand dad was david wilbur hawkins. my great aunt was Elnora Lewis (Hawkins) whom married Murt Hawkins in Cameron, Midland County Texas in the mid 1930's. They had two sons, Wilburn Hawkins (born around 1935) and John A Hawkins (born around 1938). The family moved to Lamesa, Dawson County, Texas in 1940s. Murt Hawkins died in 1973 and Elnora Lewis Hawkins died at the age of 80 in 1980. I have never met there sons, but we are looking for them and or their offsprings.

Elnora Lewis Hawkins and my grandfather, Buster Lewis, were brother and sister. There was another sister, Lorine Lewis-Lewis, brothers - Bryant Lewis, Charlie Lewis and Lonnie B. Lewis. If in fact this "Hawkins" names sound familiar please let me know either way.

Thanks,

Melvin

St Marylebone, UK, Hawkins - Admiral, Major & Captain

Hi,
I am trying to solve a problem with my family tree.
I have a Major Hawkins, born around 1818. He was the son of Samuel and Mary Hawkins. They also had numerous other children: Admiral (they had two sons with this name who both died in infancy); Samuel (1820); Samuel Captain (1823); Mary Ann (1822); Ann; and Susanna Stevens Hawkins.
I am trying to locate dates and a confirmed parentage for Samuel and Mary. All their children were baptised and, where appropriate, buried in St Marylebone, Middlesex. There is also a Joseph Admiral Hawkins who was married to Hannah Cox and their children were also being baptised there at the same time. His parents were called Admiral and Esther Hawkins. Obviously, I wondered whether there was a family connection, given that Samuel & Mary called their first 2 sons Admiral. I then found that Admiral and Esther had other children, who include Susanna Stephens Hawkins. This makes me suspect that Samuel Hawkins is another child of Admiral and Esther and named 2 of his sons after his father and one of his daughters after his sister. I can find several children born to Admiral and Esther aside from Joseph Captain (James; John; Elizabeth; Susanna Stephens; and 2 children named Esther who died as babies), all of whom were baptised in St Marylebone, but no sign of Samuel, who woud have been born around 1793. I have tried searching for Esther under the maiden name Stephens/Stevens and have found some possibilities but nothing convincing.
The coincidence of the names seems very compelling. Can anyone help me work out who Samuel is?

Hawkins family England to Australia.

Hello,

I'm presently writing a book about the history of the parks and gardens in my home town of Weymouth, Dorset, England. As part of that story I have come across a Robert Tinker Hawkins, who had tried very hard to create the first gardens in the town. For reasons unknown, he just up sticks and dissapears from England before 1871, but re-emerges in Melbourne, Australia before 1875.
I would love to be able to trace any surviving members of that family, who might know some of the history of the family, why they moved from Weymouth to Australia,or even better have a photo of Robert Tinker Hawkins that I could use to go along side his story.

A brief outline of the family is as follows;
Robert Tinker Hawkins born 1828 at Urchfont, Wiltshire. Married Ann Laws in 1856 at Whitchurch, Wiltshire.Had moved to Weymouth by 1859/60.
Had 4 sons born in Weymouth, William Richard(1860), Robert Crook (1863), Albert Lindley (1864), and Herbert Vincent (1865)
The family ran a florists shop and sucessful nursery in the town, and Robert was often mentioned in the local papers for his horticultural shows and displays, he even used to lecture on the subject, issuing broadsheets with tips for growing flowers and vegetables.

The family then completely disappears, obviously having emigrated for one reason or another, (there did seem to be some rivalry in regards to his attempting to open a gardens in Weymouth, perhaps he left because was being constantly thwarted in his attempts).

The first sightings of the family in Victoria Australia is when his first wife Ann died in 1875. Three years later Robert remarried to an Elizabeth Noy in Victoria, and they went on to have 2 daughters as far as I can tell, Ethel May (1879), and Florence Maud (1882), both described as being born in Brig (?)
On Roberts marriage certificate he's simply described as a gardener, far removed it seems from the nursery owner, and lecturer that he was while in Weymouth. Robert died in 1892 at Prahan, Victoria, and both he and Elizabeth are buried in the Baptist section of St Kilda Cemetery.

One of his sons though, William Richard Hawkins, it seems did inherit his Fathers love of all things Horticultural. His obituary of 1948 reads thus;
"OBITUARY
MR W. R. HAWKINS
Mr. William Richard Hawkins, of Dunloe av, Box Hill, who died suddenly yesterday at the age of 88, was one of the oldest known horticulturists in Victoria.
He was a foundation member of the Royal Horticultural Society and of the Nurserymen and Seedsmen's Association, with which he was closely associated for more than 60 years. He was in business for more than 40 years in Box Hill, and was a keen worker for the Burwood Boys' Home. A daughter and three sons survive. The funeral will take place this afternoon at Boroondara Cemetery Kew. Arrangements by Le Pine and Son Pty Ltd."

I would so love to be able to hear from any of this family who might have any handed down knowledge of the families earlier life in Weymouth, England, why they moved to Australia, it would be a nice ending to Robert Tinker's portion of the story of our gardens.

Sue Hogben

Hawkins, William Havens (1788 - 1859) & child George W. Hawkins (1831 - 1916)

I have reviewed several excellent genealogies and am looking for official records on the William Havens Hawkins who relocated from Long Island to Newburgh, NY as well as records that document him as father of George W. Hawkins. I have George W.'s death certificate (listed his place of birth as Sag Harbor, but may be in error on the location) and it mentions his father was William Hawkins and mother was Jaina (aka Jemima?) Newton. I am looking for records that support the relationship of William Havens Hawkins (orig. of Setauket) and Jemima Newton as parents of this George W. Hawkins - and perhaps marriage records for George W. or his parents.

Here is what genealogies I have seen show:
George W. Hawkins (abt 5 Apr 1831 LI - 11 July 1916 CN or MA or RI) married Selenia Tatham 4 Sep 1854 in Middletown, NY)
William H. (Havens?) Hawkins (12 Dec 1788 Setauket, LI - 26 Apr 1859 Newburgh, NY) married Jemima Newton (1 Dec 1811).

Thanks to any who can help!

Peace ... Ed

This is pathetic at this point now. I have read post after post about my ancestors and you self-loathing people who want and need to claim Indian or something other than white, even if you don't know what it is lik melungeon. I am sorry to break it to you, although you will all continue to pervert the facts until you get what you want anyways. I am 100% northwest european. Sorry, but that includes my ancestors Elizabeth Ann Madox b 1797 and Aaron William Hawkins b. 1793. Not only do I have the DNA tests to prove it from many, many, many relatives, I also have the pictures of Elizabeth and Ruhama her daughter, which show their pale complections, light colored hair and eyes on elizabeth, but the history of our family has been passed down from 1801 when part of my family moved to Kentucky from Maryland and Virginia. Sorry, but they are not Melungian, or cherokee, or and other native American breed, now bad how much you want to make yourself a reflection of the lie of the "melting pot". Do your research properly, use first hand resources, and build the truth....not a 0perversion that makes you feel better about yourself. Every branch of my family has had "indian relations", and every one of them has turned out to be lies, half-truths, and wrong conclusions.

Would like a picture of that old cemetery too!!
But please don't worry about it now! Just when it warms up! In the spring, I live in Idaho & we have had very little snow!
Yes, it is the OLD Streetsboro cemetery on Rt 43 south of the square. When the snow melts I could go up and try to find the graves. There are so many not marked, or knocked over etc. being from 1850 it's very possible they no longer exist either, I would take a picture and send it. We got alot of snow about 8 inches the other night so when it clears off, I would be more than happy to check them out. They were in Row 5 at the beginning of the row.If there 's anything else I can find out for you or check, please let me know. Cynthia

Hi Cynthia~
I was going over some of my old post & come across the post you sent me about Jesse Gould Hawkins & Louisa Hawkins in the old cemetery in Streetsboro, Portage co. Ohio! I thank you so much again for the help!! It was great! I had found some one to take pictures for me too! I was wondering if you knew the name of the old cemetery that Jesse was in & if there were pictures of it! I don't have the e-mail of the person who took the pictures!I guess it must be your oldest cemetery in Streersboro! I have the name of the Evergreen cememtery! But not the one where Jesse & daughter are! I would so appricate it if you could send me the name of the old cememtery! Thank you so very much for your help!!
