I spoke with 86 year old Opal Hay on Saturday to see what information she knew about Alexander. She told me that Henry Hay, Alexander & Judith's son was a great family historian. Henry Hay told her when she was a kid that the family was immigrating from Scotland approximately in 1850 to USA when their parents died on-board of the ship & they were buried at sea. At the time Alexander was 4 years old & he had a little brother that was 2 years old. They were taken in by a man & woman with an uncommon last name that Opal thinks was Diaply or something along that order as a foster family. The foster father was a mean-spirited man & quite mean to Alexander. So when Alexander was 16 years old he ran away from them & joined the army in Kentucky to serve in the Civil War. Alexander was wounded in the war. Judith collected his pension until her death. I am trying to find descendants of Alexander's brother. This is a unique story & it was probably passed down through the brother's family also.
