I can not access your tree but I believe that I can establish a link between your Hay family and the stone house in Chatahm. SEE INFORMATION BELOW SENT TO ME BY JEAN SMTH OF MONCTON

John C. Hay, Mildreds father was born in N.B.. c. 1857.. Emigrated to US in 1879.
Married his wife Anna G. c. 1888. (maiden name not known, b. Mass c 1861)
I don't know if there was a marriage or death cert which may have given John's parents names (or religion)
Didn't find a date of death for either John or wife Anna.
John was listed as a merchant in one census, and a tinsmith in another.

Had 6 children (2 died) before 1900.
Mildred and Cecile (twins) were born 1890. Neither married. Cecile d. 1988; Mildred d 1989/
Gordon b 1895, married; d 1989. if Gordon had children, they could all have passed on by now.
Alden b 1899; nm; d 1992. All lived in Derby, Vermont.

I couldn't find John C Hay in the 1861/1871 NB census.

More mysteries.
Jean
Lady Bagnall may have had a child during the time she was married to
Alan Turnbull. I was told that the she made an arrangement with her
brother and his wife to take this child when Alan died in 1933. They
raised her but she clothed her, paid them a quarterly stipend until
Singapore fell and paid for riding skating etc. lessons plus nursery,
kindergarten and private school for 3 years. This all stopped when
Singapore fell. This all stopped when Singapore fell in '42 and there was some
abuse. She paid for the full wedding. Margaret Jardine Edgar - Madge Edgar was Lady Bagnall when she married John Bagnall I think in the fall of 1935 or
36. She also changed her first name to Lynn at that time (to change her luck).

Re: Jesse Arrington Hay

Bill,- now I know why these things take so long to resolve. Some people don't answer their mail for years. I am Robert Hay King, son of Bill and Nancy King of DC. I have dabbled in the family history on and off for years trying to put all the players in their proper places but do not claim to have nailed it all down with documentation. Jesse Hay (no middle name or initial) is not directly related to Jesse Arrington Hay at least in the generations I have followed.

Jesse Hay, born Aug 1803 in Baltimore married Roxanna Louisa Carrol on 29 Mar 1829. On their respective death certificates they both lived "all their life" in Baltimore and are burried in the Hay family plot in Louden Park Memorial Cemetary in Baltimore. In the same plot are John Carrol Hay and Sarah Keyser Hay (among many others). Of particular interest to you may be plots for (but probably not occupied) George Beman (died 16 Nov 1893) and Katie W. Beman(died 7 Jan 1898). They (I thiink) are burried nearby in a much smaller plot known as the Beman Hay Dodd plot.

I also grew up with the same family lore that we were related to or decended from "the Signer". The key figures here would be Roxana Louisa Carroll Hay and her mother "Elizabeth Carroll" who lived with Jesse and Roxanna and is burried in the Hay plot (supra). Elizabeth according to lore was the daughter of John Carroll, brother to the Signer. But it doesn't hold together.

This is a little long already, but feel free to write at rhayk@aol.com.

Anita, the Gilbert HAY of your query is my ancestor also. Gilbert's son, John, had a daughter, Rebecca, who married Zachariah MARTIN at Opolousas in 1815. They, Zach & Rebecca, are my GGG grandparents.

It was 1768 when Gilbert got in trouble with the Regulators in South Carolina and took off for British West Florida. The Regulators had captured some 'baddies' and turned them over to Gilbert, a minor government official, to hold for trial. Gilbert released the prisoners and was subsequently sued by the Regulators. He had posted bond for a friend in a similar incedent earlier and this suit required a substantial bond which Gilbert couldn't afford.

In Mobile, British West Florida Gilbert incurred debts to a pair of brothers for some slaves. He couldn't pay and left for New Orleans with the slaves and with the brothers in hot pursuit.

I found this post and wonder if you might have come across info on Sion Holyfield.

"1817 Darlington SC - A descendent of Harris has sent me a copy of a SC will of a "Hayes" living in the Darlington District of SC and his will named one of his heirs as Sein Holeigfield (probably a son-in-law?) and named his son Gilbert Hayes and Sion Holleyfield as the executors of his will."

I am wondering about the connection between Gilbet Hayes and Sion Holyfield. Sion named my ancestor Gilbert; and another son Hays.

Maybe Sion was married to a Hayes? Sion move to GA; then MS.

Any idea who Gilbert Hayes father was?

Thanks,

Sylvia

Alexander Hay 1846-1914 Wife, Judith Ann Mingee

I spoke with 86 year old Opal Hay on Saturday to see what information she knew about Alexander. She told me that Henry Hay, Alexander & Judith's son was a great family historian. Henry Hay told her when she was a kid that the family was immigrating from Scotland approximately in 1850 to USA when their parents died on-board of the ship & they were buried at sea. At the time Alexander was 4 years old & he had a little brother that was 2 years old. They were taken in by a man & woman with an uncommon last name that Opal thinks was Diaply or something along that order as a foster family. The foster father was a mean-spirited man & quite mean to Alexander. So when Alexander was 16 years old he ran away from them & joined the army in Kentucky to serve in the Civil War. Alexander was wounded in the war. Judith collected his pension until her death. I am trying to find descendants of Alexander's brother. This is a unique story & it was probably passed down through the brother's family also.

George Hay-Detroit, MI -Birth abt 1898, Father of a daughter in 1916

I am searching for any information on the father of my great Aunt, Marie Adelaide Hay. She was born in Detroit June of 1916 to mother Ruth E. LeBlanc (although she may have been going by the last name Kendrick as she was living with a foster family after she was orphaned at age 4) and father George Hay, both 18 and living in Detroit. This information was obtained from Marie's baptismal certificate dated December of 1916, from St. Matthias Episcopal Church located on Grand River at W. Grand Blvd. in Detroit. Marie's baptism was witnessed by Perce and Walter Laing who also lived in Detroit lived on Linwood Ave. In 1922, it appears that Marie and her brother, Gerald Juen, were adopted by Ruth's 2nd husband, Lowell Dewey Dey, thereby changing Marie's surname from Hay to Dey (and her brother's from Gerald Juen to Dey). George Hay was never married to Ruth LeBlanc/Kendrick but the baptismal certificate indicates that George was born in the state of Michigan. I have successfully located quite a bit of information on the life of Ruth LeBlanc/Kendrick after 1916 but none on her paramour and father of her eldest child. A notation in my Aunt's personal effects (found after her death) references 'street-cars' in association with her father George Hay.

Perhaps some of this information will spark a collaborative connection with and Ancestry member(s). If so, I would love to receive a reply!

Regards -
'Manifest-Destiny', Atlanta, GA

Hello,I don't know if you found the information you were looking for but I found a Thomas W. Hay in the Georgia Records for the Civil War.I just found a picture of my gggrandfather Tom Hay, His wife was Elizabeth (Lizzie) Harris Hay. His father was George W Hay. He was in the civil war and I work for the GA Department of Veterans Service & found out we have a Registry of people that were in the Civil War if they were born in GA.There is a Thomas W. Hay listed there. I was curious if this was my gggrandfather, but really I am still not sure if it is.
It said he was a Private July 20, 1861. Died in Virginia. The regement information is MUSTER ROLL OF COMPANY E, 16TH REGIMENT GEORGIA VOLUNTEER VIRGINIA ARMY NORTHERN VIRGINIA C.S.A. HABERSHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA ("COBB INFANTRY"). There was a George S Hay that is also listed in the Civil War Records as well. I don't know if this is the George Hay you need or not.My grandmother is Mrs Hattie Beffie Hay Cook born Feb 18, 1920. She was the daughter of William Wilburn Hay 1880-1960 & Harriett Cates Hay 1881-1985. She had several sisters & one brother who passed away shortly after birth.

Amazing Royal line. I have it listed on ebay, would rather see a descendant get this since I too, am a genealogist and appreciate such information.

Patrick (Peter) Hay of Charlestown and later Stoneham, Mass

I am looking for some more info on the family of Patrick, also called Peter, Hay of Charlestown and later Stoneham, Massachusetts. Per his gravestone record in Stoneham's vital records, he died "Apr. 1, 1748, in his 91st y.", so he was born about 1658.

Per the History of Stoneham by William Stevens, he had 4 wives - I can find records of 1) Mary Kibbee, whom he married in 1685. She died in 1694. 2) Sarah, with whom he had children in 1696 and 1699, - no marriage recorded. She died in 1729. 3) Susannah Davis, no children recorded and no marriage recorded, but her estate was settled in Middlesex County in 1734. and 4) Ruth Pierce whom he married in 1742. She survived him.

I am most interested in finding the maiden name of his 2nd wife Sarah. I found a report in the Boston Evening Transcript, Sep 8, 1902 p. 12 (available on-line at Google News Archives) where W.F.B. (I assume this is Wilton F. Bucknam, who compiled the genealogies of most of Stoneham's founding families) states that Sarah's maiden name was BARRETT, but he gives no source for this information.

Does anyone have any clue where he could have gotten this info?

Thanks,

A Hay descendant
