I am not a descendant of Haydon's but my Aunt Vivian Flaherty was a granddaughter of Judge Thomas E Haydon. Vivian was born in Reno and moved to Modesto with her parents Grace Haydon and John Flaherty. She married Raymond P. Olsen and they owned a super market until they retired and traveled all over the world. They never had children. They were very active in the community an donated extensive amounts of money to local organizations. When Aunt Vivian died in 2005 she left one million dollars to the Modesto Junior College Foundation. I have inherited her genealogy records that she collected.

Thomas Tilbury Haydon of Carshalton/Mitcham/Lambeth, Surrey, England

Can anyone “shed any light” on the marriages of Thomas Tilbury Haydon please.

There are many people researching the Haydon’s from Mitcham, and Carshalton, but the problem is that there are two different Thomas Tilbury Haydon’s with at least 5 marriages between them. I’m not alone in being confused, as I’ve looked at many different trees, and just about everyone has something different for the marriages !

The first Thomas Tilbury Haydon was born in Mitcham in 1794 (with parents Thomas Haydon & Ann Mansell). I believe this Thomas died at Croydon Registration District (June 1845, Volume 4, Page 60), with his widowed wife, Ann Chart, immigrating to Australia with a daughter in 1855. I’ll call this Thomas the Mitcham Thomas.

The second Thomas Tilbury Haydon was born in Carshalton in 1796 (with parents William Haydon & Ann South). This Thomas Died on 26 April 1879 (Wandsworth, June 1879, Aged 82, Volume 1D, Page 414. I’ll call this Thomas the Carshalton Thomas.

The marriages in chronological order are as follows-

17 July 1815, St Peter & St Paul Mitcham, to Ann Chart
08 June 1819, St Saviour, Southwark, to Mary Ann Hudson
07 May 1821, St George the Martyr, Southwark, Surrey, to Elizabeth Snelling
1844, Lambeth Registration District, to Rebecca Frances Delporte (Lambeth, June 1844, Volume 4, Page 228)
1867, Wandsworth Registration District, (December 1867, Volume 1D, Page 843) to Sarah Booth or Sarah Delporte

I currently show the following – although it doesn’t look as if I have it entirely correct

Mitcham Thomas (b 1794)

Married (1) Ann Chart in 1815. Ann died in Kiama NSW Australia in 1871
Married (2) Mary Ann Husdon in 1819 (this would make it bigamous) Mary Ann possibly died in 1820

Carshalton Thomas (b 1796)

Married (1) Elizabeth Snelling in 1821 (However, both Banns & Marriage show Thomas as Widowed, which might indicate that there was an earlier marriage which I haven’t found or that she married the other Thomas) I believe Elizabeth died in 1843
Married (2) Rebecca Frances Delporte in 1844
Married (3) Either Sarah Booth or Sarah Delporte

When Carshalton Thomas died on 26 April 1879, the only Executor of his Will was Sarah Delporte, although she is (curiously?) shown as a Spinster. I believe Sarah Delporte and Rebecca Frances Deleport (Marriage 2) were probably Sisters.

I guess logically if the marriage of Mary Ann Hudson in 1819 was to the Carshalton Thomas (b 1796), that would “fit in nicely”, and would resolve the problems of a bigamous marriage for the Mitcham Thomas, and a Widowed (but no previous marriage) of the Carshalton Thomas.

If anyone has any of these people in their tree, and can offer any definite proof, I would be very grateful.

Regards,

Nigel.

I've been researching my family tree for some time and was suck at my paternal Gr.Gr.Gr Grandfather Thomas Haydon (born 1828 Middlesex - cabinet maker)for long time. I think I've now made a leap in that his father may have been from Devon, his name was John and he was a carpenter, but I need something a bit more concrete than just my intuition. I think John was from Credition and born around 1790. If anyone can help me make the jump that would be wonderful.

The Henry Thomas Mitchell family Bible has recently been posted on the website, ancestorhunt.com. The family record pages do no list HAYDON as the maiden name of Henry's grmother. The transcription of these pages I was given in 1982 gave her name as Lucy HAYDON with no justification. I have corrected my donmitch1 database on RootsWeb.

Robert HARRISON md Emily HAYDON and Naomi HARRISON md William Burgess HAYDON

Hi,

I am looking for information on two different HARRISON individuals.

1) Robert HARRISON b???? d.1839 md 19 Sep. 1831 in Morgan County, Illinois to Emily HAYDON. No further record of either has been found.

2) Naomi HARRISON b. 1820 d. 1851 md. 1837 William Burgess HAYDON in Howard County, Missouri. They had 7 children, 6 who lived to adulthood, the youngest child, Elizabeth, and Naomi both died when the child was born, in 1851.

William Burgess and Emily were brother and sister, both children of john and Elizabeth (CORY) HAYDON. According to family lore, Robert Harrison was killed by indians. No one eve said what happened to Emily. Also, according to family lore, Robert and Naomi were siblings.

Any help on their ancestry would be greatly appreciated. I have quite a bit of information on the HAYDON family I can share in return.

Thanks
Jason Haydon

Seeking descendents of James Joseph Hayden, born 1844 of Michael Haydon and Mary Kelly, Kilteevan, Roscommon. He was sister to my GGM Catherine Haydon Connolly. He was in Milwaukee in 1876 en route "to the Black Hills". A later family paper places him in Butte, MT.

There is a James Hayden prominent in Butte late 1800s but the birthdate is quite a few years off and his obit cites a different county in Ireland as a birth place. Makes me wonder if the family paper confused the two.

Anyone have info on a Hayden line, possibly in South Dakota rather then Butte? Willing to share info, pix, etc.

Thanks!

re: J.H. HAYDON, husband of Sallie ASHBURN
son: Joseph E. Haydon b abt 1894 marr Lucy Carter 13 Aug 1914

Just an FYI for your records:
I found Lucy Carter in the 1900 census as a 2 yr. old with her parents, Stonewall & Lucy. She's indexed as Louisa, so Lucy must be a nickname.

Did Sallie Ashburn HAYDON die before 1910?

The 1910 census shows a Joseph H. HAYDON, age 46 in Essex Co. with young Joseph E. age 17, but his wife is Ella M. HAYDON, age 27 (b. 1883). Joseph E., the son, has siblings of Thomas H. 7, Myrtle M. 5, and Clifford 11 mos.

Let me know if you want a complete transcription of that information.

Lou

This isn't the same Edward as I am chasing. Mine was born about 1794 in Muine Bheag. Do you know whereabouts your man was born and do you know any more? It is possible they might be related. My Edward had a son Michael Richard around 1810 who later appears in England and then emmigrates down under. I wonder if there is any link between your Thomas and my Edward?

Mark,
I am glad that you are willing to participate.
Go to NationalGeographics.com/ and look for the Genographic project appearing at center/bottom of page.

You will join the project by ordering a kit.
Approximately six weeks after returning your swabs you will be presented with your results. It will show a series of 12 numbers representing measurements of your yDNA. Hopefully they will be exactly like mine.

Let me know your results.

Robert

Lee Richards,
I would very much like to help you but the record you are looking for apparently doesn't exist. My Thomas Haydon appears to be the logical candidate as the father of Mary Haydon but their are no records to prove it. I have documented the ancestry of the Haydons in a published book named "Thomas Haydon, England to Virginia, 1657."
Book info is available at
http://www.publishershomepages.com/php/phpFeaturedTitle.asp?...

I have recently participated in the National Geographic/IBM ancient ancestry project and discovered that my Haydon family has a different DNA than all other Haydons/Haydens. My Haydon family arrived in Virginia in 1657 from Somerset Co., England. My haplogroup proved to be a J2. All others appear to be R1b. Clearly, an easy identification of some of the Haydon families is at hand. Let me know if you care to participate in this DNA seach.

Robert Haydon

Hi Mark,

Your participation would be very welcomed. We might be able to determine if all of the Haydons share a common grandfather.

I reccomend Family Tree DNA as the testing lab (http://www.familytreedna.com/). They are the largest firm in the field and have also been utlized by the previous Haydons. They use the University of Arizona to perform the actual measurements.

I can have them send you a test kit if you provide me your full name and mailing address. The kit contains two swabs that you use to scrape the inside of your cheeks for the DNA source and return to them. They will also include an invoice for about $100 for payment.

I can also include your name to the Haydon surname list that you can find at the email address noted above.

Regards to a possible new found cousin.

Robert
There has to be some speculation in the Haydon line back to Thomas De Haydon. Our current DMA results can offer proven results. I urge any male Haydon to participate.

Mark,
I misspelled the DNA comment that I sent earlier spelling DMA by mistake.
I have been involved in my DNA research since June 2005. I have discovered that my Haydons from Somersett Co, England have a distinctive J2e1 classification that clearly delineates them from the numerous Haydens who generally fall into the more numerous Rib categories.
The test is easily accomplished with cheek swabs available from FTDNA.com or the NationalGeographic.com.
It is extremely accurate and will easily answer the question of whether us Haydons are all one clan. I have opened a Haydon Project available through FTDNA to record and compare the results.
Robert Haydon

I am not yet interested in pursuing the DNA trail. I have traced my Haydon group back to Somerset County, England in the 1600s. See http://www.publishershomepages.com/php/phpFeaturedTitle.asp?...
I am reasonably confident that the New England Haydons/Haydens originated there also.

Robert Haydon
