I came across your posts about the Hayles of Jamaica. One of my ancestors in the early 18thC was John Hayle. I have found much information on them in Jamaica Archives etc, including original land grants etc. One of the family lines was through one of his sons, Benjamin. It would seem probably that your Benjamin was of this line.

Antony Maitland
antony@antonymaitland.com

I have all the families on the census from 1841 to 1901, but I do not know anything else this side of the Hayle family were doctors, they eventually settled in Rochdale Lancashire, have you any further information on the Hayle family that I could pass on to my cousin-in-law.

I am searching for information on James HALEY who married Nancy HALEY March 18, 1860 in Dickson County, TN (Batch 19173, Source call # 0497401). Who is James parents? Nancy was Nancy HALEY (before marriage)? Who is Nancy, was she married before to a HALEY? Who are her parents?

On the 1860 Dickson County census, family # 283, HH # 283, is James HALEY age 32, born NC; Nancy age 26, born NC and W C, age 5, born NC. Family #284 is Thomas HALEY age 52, born NC and Aggy (Agnes?) age 52, born NC? Is this James' parents? The 1850 Hickman County census lists Thomas HALEY age 45, born NC; Agnes age 47, born NC; Wilson, age 18, born NC; James, age 16, born NC; John, age 13?, born NC. Is this the same family? If so what about James age, 16 years in ten seems like an extreme amount.

Is W C HALEY, Nancy's child by a first marriage or James by a first marriage? W C's (William Carroll) death certificate lists his birthplace as Trenton, Gibson County, TN; but have not been able to make a connection to Gibson County as of this date.

Thank you for your help.

Re: History of the Hayle clan

Peter,
We also have Hayle/s in the family and have hoped they were of Scot/Irish decent as we did join CLAN HAY due to one of the SEPTS of the CLAN HAY is HAYLEES. I am Barbara Hayle and my husband Rickey and I are co Conveynors for CLAN HAY in Texas and go to many of the scottish festivals and represent the Clan Hay.
My husband knows that as we research we may find more Hayles as Brittish than Scottish but A HAY A HAY A HAY (the CLan Hay call) we are still searching . Anyway, before Brittian took over Scotland, Scotts did hold much of what is now Brittian so though our may be somewhat Brittish..they still could be somewhat Scot!!!!!!!
We did find a book written about many of the Scotts coming from Scotland/Ireland through Jamaca rather then Nova Scotia
or US.
Don't know where you live but our favorite festival to meet up with CLAN HAY is LONGS PEAK HIGHLAND GAMES in Estes Park Colorado the weekend after labor day

William Hayle

William Truett Hayle had a son WIlliam T Hayle who was a WW I veteran died in the Veterans hospital in Dallas...burried in Veterans cemetary on San Antonio. His brother B. F was born in Arkansas 1859 was listed as a single showman on the death record. Their father per the death record is WIlliam Hayle and mother is Maude Belles or Maude Billes.
The eldest William was from N.C. and Maude was from GA. Therefore migration for the Hayle name has been NC, GA, MS, AK, TX. There are many Hayles on the 1790 NC census and few after. My thought is that they migrated to GA, where William met Maude.
