Hello Elizabeth,

I am Charles Howard Haylock and I believe I can trace my family line to West Wratting. My connection is a Robert Haylock, born in 1800, who married a Sarah Surrey. After having a number of children, Robert absconded to Spanish Honduras (now Belize) where he promptly had a number of other children by an Eva Frazer Williams.
If you should find anything more regarding the Haylock line, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

Howard

No idea where this fits in.....but my 5x great grandfather was Howard Haylock. His children were Sarah, William, Carolina,Elizabeth and Eleanor. They were all baptised bewteen 1759 and 1766 in London.

The only baptism for a Howard Haylock i can find is in 1736 in West Wratting Cambridgeshire, son of William and Dorothy.

Hi Charles,Nivard,Heather & Phill.
I am so excited, because the information I have, was also re conformed,by my source whom I met with;of course this is all word of mouth....
Charles,Robert Haylocks Father, was a John Haylock, born somewhere in England around 1700's & something??? This was also told to my Great Grandfather, who was "HERMAN HAMMOND HAYLOCK" who was son to George frazier Haylock..
Hey Nivard maybe you could help me look up a John Haylock, born in the late 1700's (I assume)who had a son Robert Haylock.I would greatly appreciate it.
Oh Charles sorry I couldn't for some reason open your,e-mail with the family tree you have.
I also have one that was found in some old documents, and some old letters, where a Grand Aunt of mine was corresponding with some Haylock Family in England.
Well the letters aren't mine her daughter kept those but I read them all and kept a copy of the Family Tree.Maybe it's the same one you have...we'll see,and maybe compare them if they are not one and the same.
I am one of the HAYLOCK'S here in GUANAJA,AKA."Bonacca"Bay Islands of Honduras Central America. The Story goes that the HAYLOCKS settled and owned this tiny Island Paradise,G,G.greatgrandpa Robert came here with documents(or deeds) in hand from Queen Victoria herself.
It would be interesting to find out what where the names of Roberts other Children,we don't know if they where born here in Guanaja or in Belize and came here as small children.
This too is a challenge.
Well my dear relatives,Thanks to you all for your interest and help, hope I was of some help also.
Sincerely
JILL T.HAYLOCK
Honduras

Hi again Nivard,

Elizabeth (nee Woollard) who married John Haylock, was the widow of a Christopher Howe (b. c. 1780 in Balsham, Cambs. He died c 1802. It's possible that the William you mention was related, but I haven't actually followed his line, so couldn't be sure.

Regards

Heather

Thank you for that information Nivard.I knew that Elizabeth was widowed (Mrs Howe), but did not have those details of her marriage to John Haylock.

Unfortunately, I don't have much information on the Day family at all. Henry Day was born in Weston Colville in 1820. His mother was Ann Day and his father William Coppin. I have no further information on either of them. As you say, Day is quite a common name, so there may not be a connection.

Kind regards
Heather Minol
Canberra
Australia

Hi Heather

The couple you mention were married at West Wratting in 1803
Elizabeth was a widow HOWE otp
John HAYLOCK was of Great Thurlow
Witnesses William WOOLARD & Richard BROWN

Crucially neither signed the register, both made their mark, this would almost certainly rule them out of a connection to my HAYLOCKs of West Wratting who were all literate

Interestingly there is an earlier DAY connection to my HAYLOCKs but as DAY is quite common it may just be a coincidence

So at this stage it does seem as though a connection is unlikely

Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)

Hi Nivard & Jill

I hope you don't mind me joining in the conversation. I was intrigued by your mention of West Wratting, Nivard.

I am researching Mary Ann Haylock, born in Great Thurlow in 1822. I beleive her parents were John and Elizabeth (nee Woollard). Mary Ann married Henry Day of Weston Colville in 1841. Their daughter, Elizabeth was born in West Wratting in 1858, although earlier children had been born in Weston
Colville.

Do these people appear on your tree Nivard?

Regards

Heather Minol
Canberra
Australia
If you have software that will accept a family tree, such as Family Tree Maker, I will be happy to send you what I have for the Haylocks. My father's forebearer was Robert Haylock. Robert traveled from England to what is now Belize in the early 1800's. One of his sons, George, had a thriving business there.

Charles Howard Haylock

We must be related then. I am Carol Patwari (nee Vokes) the daughter of Victor William Samuel Vokes who was the son of Victor Harold Gordon Vokes who was married to "Biddy" who was Frances Bridget Haylock. Biddy was a daughter of your Great Grandfather and mine William Samuel Haylock who was married to Frances Jessie Haylock (nee Ericson). My father has told me the same story of the bombing and how Great Grandma Haylock was blown out of the flat and landed on a roof but survived despite the fact great grandfather was killed.

Alfred born 1840 who married Caroline & had a bunch of kids, Dowzer born 1845 who married Martha Wallis & moved to Bradford (my great great grandparents), Harry born 1845, Maria born 1849, Noah born 1851 Victoria born 1854 , Anne born 1856, Ernest born 1858 & Charles born 1861... I think he moved to Bradford also. Is there anyone out there who is also decended from them or from any of the Whittlesford Haylocks or has any info I would love to hear about it.

As I said previously the way forward would be to check the PRs , there may be a mention if a Francis lived for a short while or the Vicar added a comment, a lot depended upon the Vicar
At that time stillbirths were not registered but any mother would still consider she had carried the child so was one of her offspring, hence the return in 1911, there may be no other record
Do you have the birth certificate for Thomas born 1864? If he were a twin there should be a time recorded
NJO

thanks very much for your help. i do have most of the above info - my mum was a haylock and her grandfather was 1 of those whose name changed from bigmore to haylock etc. i have quite a few BMD certs for the family.

i have no idea about francis. whether he exisits or not, but as you put IF born 1864 he is the twin of thomas.

BUT on 1911 census abegail was listed as having 12kids - 6 living and 6 dead at 1911 census. including francis - i only have 11, without him i'm down to 10. BUT i do have 4 possible's born and died between census's.

Hi Amy

I take it you have more on the family such as their 1871 entry?
The baptisms for the family are as follows
Marriages Jun 1862
Allen Abigail Newmarket 3b 831
Haylock William *igmore Newmarket 3b 831

Sarah Eliza Haylock 8 Nov 1862 Dullingham, Cambridgeshire, England abt 1862
Thomas William Bigmore Haylock 3 Apr 1864 Dullingham, Cambridgeshire, England abt 1864
Ada Haylock 6 Feb 1866 Dullingham, Cambridgeshire, England abt 1866
Ellen Haylock 17 Mar 1867 Dullingham, Cambridgeshire, England abt 1867
Arthur Edward Haylock 21 Jul 1867 Dullingham, Cambridgeshire, England abt 1867
Matilda Haylock 26 Jun 1870 Dullingham, Cambridgeshire, England abt 1870
Jane Elizabeth Haylock 19 Jan 1873 Dullingham, Cambridgeshire, England abt 1873

Which does not leave a great deal of time in 1864 for another birth, there is the possibility of a twin, stillborn or died in infancy , I can find no birth or death reg for a Francis HAYLOCK or BIGMORE around the time of 1864

It might be worth checking the PRs to see if there is an extra entry against or around Thomas William or a note although if he was registered I would have expected to find it with the others, stranger things have happened though
Could your correspondent be mistaken and have mixed up Francis with Thomas perhaps?

NJO

I have a huge listing of Haylocks that I will be glad to share with anyone interested in our family's genealogy.

If you go to rootsweb.com and click on the section dealing with family names, type in Haylock and you will find me, howardhaylock@msn.com

Incidentally, a few years ago a Haylock was mayor of Belize City.
