I have some Howards who were in Wethersfield, Connecticut (around Hartford) in the 1600s, who also came from England. There is always a possibility that this is the thread that you are looking for. Jeanne

Update, --- Re: Haywood / Van Tassel marriage, 1830s, Columbia Co, NY

The Mr Haywood mentioned has recently been discovered in Van Tassel family history to have been a "Milton Haywood".

I mentioned earlier that Haywood died mid 1830s, That was an assumption. He and wife Anna could have ended their marriage in divorce.

In the MA marriage records Anna Haywood did marry Hubbard Crawfoot using the surname HAYWOOD.
I find no record, so far , that Anna (Van Tassel) Haywood was a widow at the time of her second marriage.
She did in fact have one child, "Sarah", from her 1st, Haywood, marriage.

Any help as to who the parents of Milton Haywood will be greatly appreciated.

Leslie,

For your Haywood records, a bit of info that might come in handy some day and it makes me wonder too about my question of two Miltons'.

I came upon this message this morning posted about twelve years ago so things might have changed a lot since then but it might show we are in the ball park with maybe two Miltons'. Or is Lewis also Louie?
-------------------
Re: Ann Van Tassell,, Posted: 6 Aug 2001 11:35PM

I have a little more info on ann, not much.Born in Columbia County, NY in 1816, 1 of 9 children of Johannis and Jane (Jennie) Boynis (Rhinus). She married Milton Maywood, 1 son Louie Maywood of Hillsdale, NY. Married second to Hubbard Crewfoot of Hillsdale, NY. Hope this helps.
http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.van-20-tassell/12.29.1/m...
--------------------

The spelling Crewfoot appears to have come from the Daniel Van Tassel history that I linked to earlier in this thread.

The Louie Haywood, If i'm understanding it correctly, I'm assuming that that means Milton Haywood and Ann Van Tassel had a son named Louie. If so I have never seen a record of that,, only daughter Sarah. Louie might have died young??

I replied to to the post but don't hope for much after such a long time, 12 years.

EDIT:
I just found this buried in my old records that might mean that Ann Van Tassel was married to Milton haywood. It appears that she married under the Haywood name when she married Hubbard Crawfort/Crawfoot. I think this might have come from Mass Marriages 1633-1850 at Ancestry.Com,, which I no longer subscribe.

---------------------
OCTOBER 26, 1837
DEATHS, MARRIAGES from HUDSON, NEW YORK NEWSPAPERS
HUBBARD CRAWFORT married ANN HAYWOOD 10-26-1837 by REV. WILLIAM WHITTAKER.
---------------------

Hope this info helps you with your Haywood file.

Sarah Haywood b1835 is well accounted for in the file that I linked in my first post here. Check back to that post for the gist of the details and for further clarification and details,, click the family file link for more info on Sarah. Much more info.

My main question, after seeing recently that her father was a "Milton Haywood", found in Van Tassel history link in my first post.
On page 226 of that history it does state that Ann Van Tassel did marry Milton Haywood.

I have been wondering how many Milton Haywood's born early 1800s, there were in that area. I assumed that Milton Haywood married Ann Van Tassel and then Milton died young,, until I found your Milton Haywood married to Francis on several records.

Milton's daughter Sarah Haywood, b1835, married Frederick Ball 1854 per Harrison Co, MS marriage records. Sarah would have been about 19 y/o at the alter with H F Ball.

So the Sarah Haywood, first daughter of Milton and Francis is not the Sarah you are looking for? If she had a son in 1856 she would have been 16 years old. Not completely improbable, especially then. I'll keep looking. I am a Haywood and this is a grand search for my roots.

Here is the same family, 1875 fifteen years later, with, what appears, to be the same Ann living in the household.
Ann is enumerated as Servant/Laborer but could just as easily be an inlaw, etc

New York, State Census, 1875
Milton H Haywood M 64 Farmer Mass
Frances E Haywood F 55
Danl E Haywood M 27 Farmer
John M Haywood M 23
Chas H Haywood M 18
Carrie I Haywood F 13
Van Rensuer F 32

So far I am still leaning toward this being the only Milton Haywood in the area and he probably had a daughter from another lady before his marriage to Francis.

And to surmise a little bit, should that be the case, it might be possible, not probable that Milton never even knew about his oldest daughter Sarah.

Although as mentioned, Sarah's son Horace Ball b1856 from 1st husband, born Biloxi, MS, did name a son,, Milton Haywood Ball,, in 1895 way down south in Mississippi. A million miles from Lee, Mass. Horace Ball probably never knew his Haywood Grandfather yet named a son after him.
Very interesting.

I think I can concentrate, and feel safe, to build my Haywood family history from Milton < Lewis < etc.
But with the unproven thought,in the back of my mind and "unproven" noted in the file, until proof does come through.
Thanks a million.

I am leaning the way that there was really just one Milton Haywood, maybe son of Lewis, in that area and the marriage ended early, soon after the baby was born.

Or there was no marriage at all which is okay as long as I can get it all correct. Like I mentioned, until I found the Van Tassel history I just though Mr Haywood probably died about the time baby Sarah was born.

I was thinking your Daniel, or another Daniel?, might be the brother of Milton,, this Haywood research is all new to me.

Texas was mentioned,

I recent came across an old Van Tassel family history "Family Record of Daniel Van Tassel" written in 1920 that mentions the marriage of a Milton Haywood as the 1st husband of Ann Van Tassel b1814. Hubbard Crawfoot being Ann's 2nd husband.

Ann Van Tassel was born Columbia County 1814

search word "hubbard" page 226 for info
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~vantasself...

Foe several years I knew Ann VT married a Haywood in the Berkshire Co, MA and Columbia Co, NY area but this history notes it specifically a Milton Haywood.

I have been assuming that Mr. Haywood died young leaving widow Ann and infant daughter Sarah Haywood and Ann remarried to 2nd husband Hubbard Crawfoot soon after in 1837. (my grandparents)

Texas being mentioned,, by 1860 Hubbard and Ann were relocated to Biloxi, MS. And young daughter, Sarah Haywood first married H F Ball about 1850 and by 1900 was married to a W M Clark and living in East Texas. This may or may not be the Haywood to Texas that was referred to above.

But my interest lies in the Milton Haywood that I assumed had died early 1830s. Since I learned of his given name being Milton, I have found a Milton Haywood b1814 on several later Censuses, US and State, in Columbia County married with several children.

Trying to clear things up in my family history, and find the Haywood grandparents of my Texas kin.
...Was there more than one Milton Haywood born early 1800s in that area?
...Could the Milton b1814, living in Columbia Co, until ripe old age, be the father of Sarah Haywood?

That obviously meaning that Ann and Milton divorced, or were never married, but Milton was never denied paternity.
Sarah Haywood Ball even had a grandchild named Milton Haywood Ball b1895 in Simpson County, Mississippi.

Sarah Haywood's page with much more history
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

Thanks ahead for any answers, or thoughts, to there being one, or two, Milton Haywoods.

Jerry

Looking for any info that can be provided on the Haywood line from Barnesville, GA. There is a "tall tale" in my family that has caused nothing but wall after wall. My dad's surname is different then my grandfathers due to a "supposed" brush with the law. grandpa changed from Haywood to Stuart. I saw an obit for my grandfather and it has listed him as a Haywood and also my dad as his surviving child is listed as a Haywood. if this is true, how am I a Stuart and where did this story come from. My grandfathers true name is Herbert H Haywood, 6/19/1908--12/14/1980 and parents were Joe and Eddie (I assume it's Edie) Haywood. There was also a family business...Haywood Furniture Factory....that I can't find any info on. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!! you can also email me at jmstuey@gmail.com

Haywood Greene Rush County Indiana

It seems that several Greene County Haywood can trace their line to Hawkins County, Tennessee and the 1830 Census. My Henry Haywood of Rush County is on that same census page and it is pretty clear that several Greene County Haywoods stopped in Rush County before continuing to their final destination in Greene County. Now, it appears though DNA analysis, that my Henry Haywood decended from John Hawgood, b1663 of Church Brampton, Northants, Northamptonshire. The exact line is obscured until the 1830 census so i am wondering if any researchers are working on the same lead. I have looked at the Francis Hogwood line, the North Carolina line and the New Jersey line but it is hard to argue with the DNA. Any input would be appreciated.

I can only find reference to 1 Lucy Kate from B st E......maiden name Groome.

Checking the marriage register (no spouse names are given pre 1911! John T Haywoods vol and page no matches that of Lucy K Groome. so i'm thinking great but now i have also found records of a john thomas haywood from castle gresley married to lucy kate...either i,m wrong or the others are wrong.......arrrrrghhhhhh!!!! or its the strangest coincidence i have ever encountered!

Re: barbara ann jane heywood

Hi Ereni,

Granny's father was called Dr Ernest Lewis Heywood. He was a doctor of music, and his wife was called Ida Darling (nee Atkinson) Heywood. (She was a music teacher). The spelling of the last name Heywood, is not fully confirmed, as some of the documentation we have has it spelt Heywood, and other documents spell it as Haywood.

Granny was one of four siblings in the following order:

Dorothy (Female)
Enid (Female)
Barbara Anne Jane (Female)
Michael (Brother)

Granny's parents had a house in St James Road, London and a country estate in Kent (UK). By the sounds of things they wern't short of a dollor, and we do know that when she was 17years old when she first met Grandpop Amohanga (Brownie). He was in the first woulrd war in London. In those days, when soljours got injured they were sent to convelessent homes, one of the nurses working there was being taught music by Granny's mother, she got friendly with Granny, so offered Granny to tag along and do some voulentary work at these makeshift hospital type places. It was here Granny (Barbara Anne Jane) met Grandpop Amohanga (Brownie). A courtship started. She fell pregnant with Kiwi ( so they were married when she turned 18years old). Apparently she had servants and a Nanny when she had Kiwi, and the story goes that Grandpop Amohanga asked her family (farther) is he could bring her back to NZ with him when he returned. He indicated that she would be well looked after with his family down in Hangatiki. Grandpop promised her parents that they would return back to her parents after two years, and on this basis they agreed to let her and there grandson go with him to NZ. They paid for a nurse/Nanny to go on the ship with them back to NZ for Kiwi, and she arrived in NZ with grandpop Amohanga, and Kiwi being (9months old) Anzac Day after the first world war.

As she stepped off the boat, she was greeted from Grandpops sisters, who presented her with a real Kiwi feather Korowai cloak. (We still have this to this day) She arrived in Hangatiki to a dirt floor shack. Somewhat different to what she was used to back in London with her parents.

Obvioulsy 2 years came and went, and she never ever did return home back to the UK. Her parents use to send over 500pounds every mvoth, which was huge money back then, and that's how she managed to purchase all her land in Kihikihi over the years that she gifted and left in her will to her children and grandchildren. Her father still has royalties now from his music that sells in the UK and my nana (Aunty Barbara still gets correspondense etc in realtion to this.

I often wonder if she ever had regreats that she never ever went back and never ever saw her parents again.

Obvioulsy her mother and father are dead, and her two sisters died before her. Her only brother was the last to die, dieing 8 weeks after granny died, over in a nursing home in London. The nursing home actually tracked down (my Nana - Aunty barbara) and sent photos and letters etc) Just sad that the contact wasn't made before she died, but never mind....

I hope this kick starts what ever your looking for cuz.
Good luck. Sometimes it's a matter of talking to the old people or just sitting down looking at all the old photos and getting the story from those, and those that were around back then almost.

Hope you find what your after.

Kelly Searancke
KIHIKIHI

Hi, I'm descended from William Riley Haywood and Nancy Haywood. Wondering if you could give birth and death dates for William R, Mariah Florence and Ella Haywood, children of Richardson and Sarah Elizabeth Haywood. I have the year but not the month and day.
I am at a loss on the parents of William Riley. Some family info I have shows he's the son of James and Mary Haywood. I'm not sure who the author of booklet was and I can't find proof of this. Also, don't know Nancy's parents.
All the info on line agrees with what you listed- John and Sarah Tillman for William Riley.

The Haywood line from my father's side of the family came from the Mt Gilead plantation and settled in southeast Missouri sometime during the Civil War. I believe that was John Haywood, then my great-grandfather and my grandmother, Mattie Haywood (Evans). From her lineage came my father, Wilmer Evans, my self (Deitra Evans) and now my children Brooke and Shane Zimmer.
