My Grandfather was Edmon Hedgespeth b. Taylor Co., KY, his father was Jacob Ramon Hedgespeth and his father was John F. Hedgespeth 1835-1907 b. Green/Taylor Co., KY. Is the Hedgespeth Cemetery that you mention the one on the original Hedgespeth Homestead out on 210 near Campbellsville, KY? My grandfather migrated to Sandwich, IL back in the 1920s along with many other people who came to this same area in Tiskilwa, Princeton, IL and on further northeast to Sandwich. My grandfather sold his 1/4 share of the 160acre original homestead to his two brothers who remained in KY Fred and Emmet Hedgespeth. It is still in the family. I am interested in where the Hedgespeth's came from before KY and Virginia. jbark1946@comcast.net

Hey there cousin Todd ! great to hear from you :)

Larkin's father was Holland Jr. 1842-1916 ... who was the son of Holland Sr. 1807-1876 ... who was a son of James Henry Sr. 1784-1850 :)

James Henry Sr. is my 5th great grandfather and he is your 4th great grandfather ... that makes us 5th cousins once removed :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cousin

I visited that hdpth cemetery north of Campbellsville back in 2004 and photographed all of the grave makers at that time ... along with many other cemeteries [with hdpth ancestors/descendants] in Taylor and Green counties ... snap shots are displayed on the hdpth website ...

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hedgpeth/c...

that website is in dire need of being updated ... as I have a lot more data that needs to be uploaded, along with many more photographs :)

hope you will let me know when your mother finds that family tree, and possibly share it with me/us ... she just might have the missing info someone is searching for :)

Kenny -
hdpth-DNA
digmyroots2 [at] gmail [dot] com
.

Raymond Hedgespeth was the twin brother of Ray Hedgespeth my grandfather. Yes their names were Ray and Raymond. Born in Taylor County Ky. I believe their father was Larkin H. Hedgespeth. Larkin's wife was Lorella May Hedgespeth. I know that Larkin had a brother named Audwin. Ray Hedgespeth was my grandfather, my fathers name was Ronald G. Hedgespeth and my name is Todd N. Hedgespeth.

I also believe that John F., Pleasant G., James H.,William A., some or all the sons of Holland Hedgespeth from Virginia. Holland's father might be James Henry Hedgespeth Sr. I was told at the funeral of Audwin Hedgespeth (my great uncle) back in the 70's that our family came from England around the time of Capt. John Smith. There was 4 or 5 brothers that split the name into different spellings. ( Hedgespeth, Hedgspeth, Hodspeth, Hudspeth) Audwin was buried at the Hedgespeth family cemetary in Campbelsville, Ky. My mom is supposed to have a pretty good tree. Now she just needs to find it.

thanks for all the info!! I had actually heard from a couple people that the Hedgespeth brothers came from Wales to Virginia and there was a feud and so one brother kept the hedgespeth name and the other brothers change their last names a little...like by removing the "es":). And then all the brothers separated to different states.
Wendell - thanks for sharing the descendants of your grandfather Larkin hdpth :)

as I just shared [in previous message] with Alvin's [your grandfathers brother] descendant (grand-son/daughter) ... Larkin's father was Holland [Jr.] (1842-1916) he is a son of Holland [Sr.] (1807-1876) and his father was James Henry [Sr.] (1784-1850) who is my 5th great grandfather :) I descend from James' son Joel [Sr.] (1809-1874) ... with James Henry being your 3rd great grandfather, that makes us "fourth cousin twice removed" ... the twice removed indicates that there is two generations that separate us.

when did the H*D*P*TH's come to Colonial USA ? ? is a big mystery "still" :( James Henry's father was Lemuel (1757-1840) and his father was Henry who died 1779 in Isle of Wight Co., VA ... Henry is estimated to have been born between 1710/23 ... there could possibly be another 1 to 2 generations of hdpth's in Virginia before Henry, but the current historical records found/available are very sketchy in allowing any concrete proof of relationships before him just yet :(

As for the first / earliest spelling of H*D*P*TH :) I have photo-copies of legal documents that Lemuel had signed in his own handwriting ... that match with my own spelling :) note: I am "not" saying that this is the correct spelling, it's just my general observation :) Also I have been gathering data on 13+ variant spellings of our own surname ... "only" two of them are found in the ancient records of England ... i.e. Hudsp(e)th and Hudsp(i)th ... all the rest appear to be what is commonly referred to as an Americanized spelling "/ in the historical records found in Virginia, the spelling of Hedg(es)peth is not found there ... at least from the available records, thanks in part to the Revolutionary War, the Civil War and other natural / man-made disasters over the years :(

looking forward to sharing more family history :)

Kenny Hedgpeth -
your California Cousin

Greetings Sam ~

I will bet we have a connection with your Flora Hedgespeth. Do you know who her parents were ? ? My H*D*P*TH's were from that part of Green Co., Kentucky that became a part of Taylor Co. .... My branch left there around 1837, and headed for Missouri.

Ken Hedgpeth ~ Arcadia, CA ~ USA
check out the H*D*P*TH website ... I am currently working on an index for census records [this should be up loaded with in a week] ... some of you won't believe the spelling variations I have been coming across :-) enjoy!
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hedgpeth/

Greetings Delphia - sorry for the delay in responding here ...

We have your Arzella F. a daughter of Samuel B. Hedgepeth and Mary M. Robinson, listed in the database on the H*D*P*TH website :) but no info of a sister Celia C. :(

I just checked and I see Samuel in the 1880 census of Green Co., KY with the following children ... Francis, Celia C., Jessee B. and Ella along with wife Mary ... additional children we have listed in the H*D*P*TH website database, are a John M. and a Charlie :)

perhaps you could help us fill in some of the missing info on this branch of the family ?

the following link will take you to where Arzella appears ... if the link is broken into two lines or you have problems locating her, use the search engine on the homepage to find her :)

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hedgpeth/DB_hedgpet...

looking forward to hearing from you again :)

Ken Hedgpeth ~ Arcadia, CA ~ USA

check out the H*D*P*TH web site covering ALL
spelling variations from ANY location ... enjoy!
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hedgpeth/

like a smile ... genealogical kindness,
causes a chain reaction :)
Hey again :)

what part of Michigan did your ancestor's live in ? do you have a time frame for your grandparents and great grandparent's i.e. when they were born and died and where ... approximate if you or your mom don't know for sure ... and I will see what I can dig up for you. :)

also do you know where they "your ancestor's" might have come from before Michigan ?

Sounds like your grandparent's were cousins ? same surnames :) we got several marriages listed like that in Missouri, Kentucky and Virginia ...

On my recent trip through southwestern Kentucky I ran into several Hedgespeth [your spelling variant] although I didn't get to visit with them all :( I was on a cemetery hunt ... check out the tombstone photo's on the hdpth web site if your interested :)

more later on ...

Ken Hedgpeth ~ Altadena, CA ~ USA
searching for all H*D*P*TH variants WorldWide !
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hedgpeth/

calling on ALL hdpth's ...
Hey there fellow HEDGESPETH researcher's -

We are looking for any and all direct line "male" hdpth's to join us in the hdpth-DNA study group ... All spelling variants are welcome to participate :)

Why males ONLY ? because we are having testing done on the Y-chromosome which is past from father to son, generation after generation, basically unchanged :) when slight mutations do show up in the test results, that becomes a distinct marker of where various family branches split ... which will enable other participants comparing their test results, to know which branch they might descend from, when the paper trail has came to a stand still [momentarily we hope] :)

Lady's don't feel left out :) your father, brothers, uncles, male hdpth cousin's and grandfather hdpth, are your representative in this project :)

This is called Genetic Genealogy, which can aid the family researcher, in verifying that they are truly following the correct line of ancestors on back ... and possibly shed some light on where all the variant hdpth spellings branch off at :)

those wanting additional info, and or have questions about this project ... please don't hesitate in contacting us :)

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hedgpeth/hdpth-dna....

more later on ...

Ken Hedgpeth ~ Altadena, CA ~ USA
searching for all H*D*P*TH variants WorldWide !
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hedgpeth/
