Thomas Abercrombie Hedley b. 1824 in Lambeth

I'm looking for more information about Thomas Abercrombie Hedley who married Emma Illidge in 1852. He was a gas engineer who with his father Joseph and brother George Henry Carne Hedley were involved in gas lighting in London. Thomas's son, Sydney Illidge Hedley migrated to Australia. Does anyone have any further information or have these names in their family tree?
Lynne

Hi Lynne I've had a quick look around and most of the articles involve Middlesex and Banbury - I'll let you know if there is any connection but I doubt it, we are in Warkworth in Northumberland above Newcastle, 300 miles from London.

Good luck with your searching - wish someone could do that 'who am I' programme for us! best wishes, Sharon

Thanks Sharon
I'd be really interested to know more about the names and photo to find out if they are connected to our family in any way. Thomas Abercrombie Hedley was involved in setting up the gas lighting in London. I don't know if he went to Warkworth before or after he'd lived in London. The census listed him as a gas engineer and I found a number of articles about him.

Regards Lynne

Hello
I saw your message about the photograph with Miss Hedley, Warkworth written on it. My husband's 2x great grandfather was Thomas Abercrombie Hedley and he lived at the House at the Gasworks in 1861. He had three brothers George Henry Carne (b. 1813 and twin brothers Thomas Davies and Joseph Hedley (b. 1818). I have very little information about them but there may be some connection to this family.

Lynne

I bought this photo postcard from ebay some time ago and haven't had any joy in finding out who this is - there are two young men on the Warkworth war memorial called Hedley and I wonder if the 'hankie' is supposed to represent that one or both of these men were her sons. Have it on my website at www.thewaitingrooms.co.uk - no-one has identified her yet and a lot of locals have been looking.
Seeking information on a John Alexander (1766-1849) who married a Elizabeth Hedley (Hadly) June 27, 1811 in Jefferson County, Ohio. Elizabeth was reportedly born in 1766 in Virginia and died in 1839 (not sure where; possibly Ohio). John was reportedly born in Pennsylvania (possibly Washington County). John and Elizabeth reportedly had three children; Benjamin *1818 born in Pennsylvania; Robert (Oct 1820 in Harrison County, Ohio) and Rachael (1826), also born in Ohio.
Trying to confirm birth dates and marriage relationship due age Elizabeth would have been when the three children born. Information relevant to who John's parents were, place when they came from, and any connections to suspected Scottish heritage very much appreciated.
pls send to Shadowfox60@comcast.net
William was one of my forebears: he had a sister Mary christened there on the same day in 1780. Their parents were John and Isabel.

A John Hedley of Rothbury married an Isabel Davison at Whittingham in October 1779: she was OTP and he was from Rothbury.

Does anybody know anything about this John and Isabel? There were no shortages of Hedleys in Rothbury but how did this John relate to them? Where did Isabel come from – there isn’t a birth of an appropriate Isabel in Whittingham in IGI.

Why were both children christened on the 4th February, three years apart?
I am researching John Hedley and his family. He was born in the late 1700s in County Durham(I think) and married Elizabeth Mills. They had a child named Mary who was born in Paris about 1815, which is around the time of the second paris treaty. Mary moved back to Durham, but I do not know if John and Elizabeth did. What I really want to know is did John Hedley move to France because he was a troop who helped catch Napoleon?

Hi,

I am trying to trace my grandfather's line and I am a bit stuck. I have a birth certificate for my great grandfather. He was born 14th February 1899. At the time his parents lived at 373 Bath Street, Walker. Their names are George Hedley and her name was Margaret (nee McGaw).

There are so many George Hedley's out there, I wanted to ask if anybody recognises him from their family tree before I order a birth certificate.

Many thanks

Hi Ann

Catherine's brother William John is my G Grandfather. I have him as one of 11, although the 1911 census records that their mother (Catherine Hedley nee Bilton) had had 14 children. William John married Mary Lamb, the sister of Jacob Lamb. Catherine died in childbirth in 1901 and her children were "taken in" by her mother (Catherine Hedley, nee Bilton). As to Catherine's children I have William Hedley Lamb(1894-1968), Herbert Alexnader Lamb (1896-1972), Albert George Lamb(1897-1970), Catherine Belton Hedley Lamb (1898-1982). Elizabeth Jane Lamb(1899 - this may have been "Lilly")) and Mary Victoria Lamb(1901-1902). I'd be delighted to learn of your link to the family.

Richard Hedley

I remember she had the trunk in which Sybilla Richardson carried her family possessions when she moved to Liverpool around 1822.
Let me know if you can't access my tree.
Lyn

I have a bar of soap (allegedly from the 1940s) which has the words "Hedley's Trafford Bar" stamped into it. If there is anyone from the Hedley family with links to the soap manufacturer who'd like it, then I'd be happy to send it to you. It's actually a bar which was intended to be cut into 3 separate pieces. I think it's probably for laundry as it looks unattractive and has no real scent - but then that may have long since worn off!

I am researching the Hedley family from Northumberland and I would be interested to hear from any descendants of Willliam Hedley born @ 1867 (Earsdon/Seghill)who married Bessie Jane born 1866 (Calstock Cornwall) in Tynemouth in 1888. They had the following children:
Thomas b. 1888 d. 1969; William b. 1891; Ellen b. 1893; James b. 1895; John b. 1897; Margaret b. 1900. Ellen may have married Francis H. Graham in 1913 and had a son, William H. Graham in 1914, but I have yet to confirm this. I would be pleased to hear from any descendents of this family with whom I would be happy to share my research.

She kept in touch with her brother Robert via letter. I believe he ended up living in Felixstow.
Many thanks Eileen. A Michael Hedley was a witness at the wedding in Hartburn parish of my g(x2) grandfather John Hedley (1796-1840) a shoemaker who lived at Snitter near Rothbury. He has been my 'brickwall' for 4 years, two expensive reports from professional genealogists working in Northumberland were both inconclusive. One of his sons, my g grandfather was named Ralph Lambton Hedley. Since the name Ralph is not common and occurs mostly in Elsdon parish I have recently transcribed all the Hedley entries in the Elsdon registers in the hope that it would lead me to John Hedley's antecedents. No luck so far!!
