Pauline and Reva are the daughters of Howard Helton of Lynch, Kentucky (born in Barboursville, KY)? My father was his brother. My father was Bud Mckinzie Helton. They had another brother, Casper who died at 4 yrs old. I have a tree "SheilaHeltonMarvin" where you can see the ancestry. I have been looking for Howard and/or any of his family for years. In your information you have his parents wrong. Green B. Helton is Howard's father. Our family lived in Cleveland, and my uncle visited only a few times when I was young. Please contact me thru ancestry.com or email me at inlittleitaly@gmail.com

Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you to share our stories

Troy: as for confirming photos of Merle, Helen LeRoy Anetta etc. I'm sure we could help if we knew what they looked like.
Where could we view them to help you identify them?
We also have some of the old tin types including the Cantrell's Harold, William, Thomas and Mary. Plus others.
Helen and daughter (Marshall's)looked strikingly similar.
Of course Floy Aurelia (mimmie) was Helen Marshall's mother.
Bob

Yes, that's funny.

I'm trying to confirm the photos I have of Helen, Merle, Leroy, etc. posted are correct? Unfortunately there was scant information regarding the people in the photos I have, many I am still yet to post. If that photo I have of Helen is correct she looked strikingly similar to Aunt Valeria.

My Aunt Dixie sent me an old tin-type photo of whom I thought initially was Aunt Floy when she was very young (18-20 yrs). But when I scanned the photo, and cleaned up the image, I believe it was not Floy but her mother Mary Aurelia! The similariities are just so close.

I know grandmother always spoke fondly of various fammily members, but I only remember meeting a few.

Slowly but surely many of the mysteries of this branch of my family are being revealed and cleared up. I have been able to shed much light on previously unknown or unconfirmed stories through piecing together all the various bits of information given to me by my grandma, my dad, and now my aunt. Perhaps through our correspondence we can unlock many others.

Thanks again Bob,

Troy Dameron

Dear Bob,

Thanks for your post. Yes, it can be a bit confusing regarding the use of my grandparents names. Both my grandmother ("Dail") and grandfather ("Lacy") went by their middle names. I asked them why they used their middle names, and for my grandfather it was because his father's first name was also Thomas, so it was to avoid confusion. For my grandmother, I'm not absolutely certain, but I believe she just preferred being called Dail instead of Luella.

I have to tell you it's a great joy to talk to another Cantrell descendent. Yes, most of our ancestors are now gone, and I'm building off the legacy given to me first by my grandmother and her mother (my great grandmother), Hazel Beatrice "Cantrell" Wills. I remember Karleen very well. She would come to visit every now and then. I also remember Aunt Viola as well. I remember the story of her "flat" forehead being due to her being run over by a wagon when she was young. Don't know if there is any truth in that story, but that's what I remember most about her. And Valeria, grandmother's sister, was very close to my Aunt Dixie, passed as you mentioned.

I have been given some old family trees, letters, and various photos of the Cantrells. My aunt recently sent me many old photos that I am archiving and saving to pass on to other family members. I'll be glad to share with you what I have.

One of the mysteries I have been trying to solve involves Mary Aurelia's (Moses) father (Joshua) and mother (Leah Whitecotton). I don't know if you have any information on them, but if you know anything about them I would greatly appreciate learning more about them (particularly Leah).

What I find most interesting is that most of the stories told to me by grandma and great grandmother Wills are for the most part accurate although incomplete. It was their stories and notes that have helped me to develop much of my family tree.

I hope to keep in touch with you, as I am the last of our particular line of Dameron, Helton, Cantrells, etc. And like you mentioned most of our family has passed, so I have very limited resources to find further information, and share.

Thanks Bob for contacting me.

Troy Dameron

I think I've got it straight now. "Dail" and "Lacy" were middle names and the Dameron's always went by them. My wife said she remembers her folks were good friends with them and that's what they were called.

Troy Dameron;

I'm confused? My wife and you have a similar family tree.
She (my wife)is a Cantrell descendant W.l.Cantrell->Floy Aurella Cantrell (Ream+)-> Helen Haley Ream (Marshall)-> Anetta Luise Marshall (Perkins).
In looking at your tree and the one left by Grandma Mary Cantrell, I see a "Dail Luella Helton (9/6/1907)?
Could you have the names reversed or did Grandma?
Our family Bible also has a lot of the obits and I usually see "Dail" and not "Luella"

Most of the cousins we knew have passed I helped bury Karleen Fillman a few years back, her cousin Valeria passed the next year. Karlen was "Emma Viola Cantrell's" kin. I never kept up with the Dameron's. Nice to hear from you.
Bob Perkins Ft. Collins Co.

Well hello Andrew. Nice to meet you. I was actually looking for info on Andrew James Helton born 1848 and married Martha Ballard, son was Robert Helton, father to "Bill"....your grandfather? If so I met mr. Bill in 2005,
he and his wife and fell in love with them! Andrew (Andy) and Martha had a daughter, Sarah Bethena Helton who married John H. CURTIS, the parents of my grandmother, Etta Mae Curtis Griffith....Andy was her grandfather whom she adored. Mr. Bill Helton was my grandmother's 1st cousin. I acutally visited all the cemetaries in the area of Russellville, including where the Heltons were buried. Mr. Bill said Andy was buried at the foot of Robert's grave. I video'd your grandparents and took their pictures. When I found out he passed I was so sorrowful. He gave me a wealth of info or stories of the mysterious Andrew James Helton who we (as grandchildren) had heard from my Grandma....but I still have no idea who Andy's parents were or exactly where he was born. It is very nice to meet you and I would love any help or info or stories you have on the Heltons...or pictures of Bill and or his siblings.
Karen McClane

Hi Adam, I realize yours is a VERY old posting but I thought I would write anyway. Your George W Helton (1841-1922) was a brother of my maternal grandfather, Jesse E Helton (1851-1915). Jesse E Helton was first married to Olivia J Cox & they had five sons that I am aware of. He then married my grandmother, Martha Dinsmore, and had one living child, my mother - Willie (a lot of people mistake her name for a male but she was also called "Billie". I am wondering if you have a family tree that I can take a peek at? Also, family PICTURES would be wonderful! As I both sets of my grandparents were dead before I was born & I have never seen a picture of any of them. Hope you are still on Ancestry.com. Patricia Hardy

Hi Bensonrhodes, I am getting a bit confused here! lol-lol. Is your name Joyce Rhodes or am I talking to two different people?
So, your father is William Alexander Helton, son of Jessie E Helton and Olivia J Cox? We had always referred to him as Alexander William Helton (but I guess they are one and the same)? Okay, I think I have your father straight now. lol-lol
Now, for the names of Jessie & Olivia's children - I have them as follows: Levi Tilden Helton (1892-1920); Harris HELTON (1895- ???); William Alexander HELTON (1898-1945); Charles R Helton (1903-1928) and James Parker Helton (1907-1981).
Question; How certain are you of the names you gave me? Because I think the one you call "Paris" is the one I call "Harris".
Question: I did not know that Jessie & Olivia had a daughter named Mary? However, I do know that Jessie & Martha Dinsmore (my grandmother) did have a still-born daughter who they named Mary.
Question: I am unaware of Jessie & Olivia having a child name "Bill (Willie)". But, Jessie and Martha did have a DAUGHTER, my mother, whom they named WILLIE (Mom always said that they had wanted a boy)! All my Mother's life people called her "Billie".

Please respond with your thoughts on these name discrepancies.

Patti Ann

Hi Bensonrhodes, so very glad to hear from you. My name is Patricia Campbell Hardy (my friends call me Patti Ann)-I live in Middle Tennessee. My mother was Willie Helton Campbell; father was Walter Coy Campbell. Is your grandfather Alex William Helton (Birth 05 Apr 1897; Death 20 Feb 1944) who was married to Lula Helton (1899-)? If so, Alex was a half-brother to my mother. My mother's mother was Martha Dinsmore; my father was Jessie E Helton. Alex William Helton's mother was Olivia J Cox ((1868-1897), the first wife of Jessie E Helton. Let me know if we are talking about the same person! I will be happy to share the info I have. Would you happen to have any pictures of Jessie E Helton? Please reply to pah28@comcast.net. Patti Ann
