Hi Peter,
It would be amazing if you were the cousin, as it has been a very long hunt one way and another!
I am in touch with all of Ted's children, especially Rosemary, and am also in touch with one of Vi's children.
What can I say? The fact that you have replied here implies that you have an interest in family history.I have a fair bit of info on your grandfather and the inquest following;I was brought up to believe that he was my grandfather, but that is not so.Both Ted and my mother had different fathers.
If you would like to get in touch please contact me on a1emslie@hotmail.com
but in the meantime, I wish you all the very best for a happy christmas!
Annabel (Sussex).

Hi Elaine, I am related to Joseph Hemmings, born 1839 and resident of Maxstoke and Meriden at varoius times in his life. It is possible he had a sister or cousin Charlotte, although I have no record of this. My great grandmother was Lucy Hemmings daughter of previously mentioned Joseph Hemmings. I have some very old photos of the Hemmings on my ancestry site. One is a large family group that my mother gave to me saying she had no idea who it was. I have since figured out it had to be the Hemmings. My ancestry site is called "McAleer from Mummel". Hope you find this interesting (and not confusing).

Regards,
Andrew McAleer

PS Lucy Hemmings emmigrated to Australia in 1907.

HEMMINGS who lived in Hemsworth, Yorkshire

I'm looking for details of a John Thomas Hemmings who was a haulage contractor based in Hemsworth, Yorkshire. I'm guessing that his date of birth was around 1879. All I know of his wife was that she was called Edith, their golden wedding anniversary was Jan 5th 1956.. His son Edward Albert (always known as Albert) was born in Hemsworth in 1910, but the whole family moved to Nottingham some time after that date.
Any help would be appricated.

HI Jules

Thanks for replying....so quickly :-)

Forgot I had posted the original question in 2007!!

I've managed to find the same info as you, sinc the original post, but still can't find a trace of John Enoch.

On the subject of Sophia, I found out that her, her 2nd husband George Berrington & daughter Sophia, all died in Toxteth Park Workhouse, Liverpool in 1883 of Typhoid and were all buied at neraby Toxteth Cemetary.

If they died there thye were, certainly, not well off. Sad, none the less.

I have copies of death certificates attached to each of them kindly supplied by another distant relative.

If I do find anything on Enoch, I'll certainly let you know

ALf

Hello Alf

You and my husband share common ancesters.

To answer your second question first, James HEMMINGS died in Q2 1878 in West Derby. You can search FreeBMD and James comes up as the death entry:

Deaths Jun 1878
HEMMINGS James 36 W. Derby 8b 239

James probably died in Toxteth Park. Sophia seems rather heartless to have re-married in the same quarter as her first husband died, but then I suppose times were hard. I've not ordered the death certificate of James as he is only a great great uncle of my husband.

With regards to John Enoch HEMMINGS, I can't find him after the 1891 census either unfortunately.

Best regards

Jules

Apart from Hannah Hemming I don't really know much about anyone else. It would be nice if we could make a connection. I think they lived in Edgebaston and they used to make regular vists to Shropshire to see my great grandparents, Tom and Sarah Wall. According to my great Aunt Hannah and George had 5 boys and 1 girl. Does any of this seem familiar to you?

Best wishes, Nicola

Alfred was emigrated to Canada via the British Home Children 'Scheme' in 1904 (for orphans).
I think I have him in 1915 enlisting in the Canadian Army, I know he visited his sister Matilda during WW1 in Bristol, England, whilst still in the Canadian Army (presumably).
Then I loose him and do not know where else to look? We think he died in action, the family had no further contact???
Any suggestions? Or do you know of him?
