Thank you for answering my post. It would seem we are 2nd cousins! I have since found that John did not "officially" divorce until about 1922. He died in New Haven in 1949. I don't know why he was there, but I do know that his daughter Pearl signed the death cert. My grandfather, John's son from his first marriage, sometimes had an S on his name too. However, my father and his siblings never had an S on thier name.

Although I never met my grandfather, I know that his sisters were important to him. My aunt has told me he used to visit once in awhile but never told his wife what he was doing. I've also found a photo of your grandmother in his things. She looks to be about 18 or so, very beautiful young lady.

Would you be interested in sharing some information with me? I'm curious as to what happened to Laura. I've found and visited John's grave in Hyde Park, but it does not appear that she is with him. Any information that you would be willing to share would be terrific. I fill you in about some of this side if you are interested.

After my grandfather died, his children didn't keep in touch with any of his siblings (probably because my grandmother didn't encourage it).

Would love to correspond more if you are wiling. My name is Cathleen Hendrick Corfey and my email is ccorfey@gmail.com.

Hope to hear from you.

Greetings cousin. I am the GGG grandson of John Hendrick (1758-1818), who was the older brother of your 4th great grandfather Obediah (1779-1839). The reason of the generation mismatch is that my G grandfather William A Hendrick was the youngest of 11 children born over 20 years. Our family migrated from VA to GA to Caddo Parish, LA by the 1850's.

I have done extensive research on this line & am willing to share info with you.
Obediah H. Hendrick is my 4th great grandfather (his son, Edwin is my 3rd great). Edwin's daughter Obadine is my gg-grandmother. She was married to Edward Haynes Coleman. Obadine's sister, Louisa, was NOT married to Eldred Coleman, but rather JAMES HENRY COLEMAN. The tombstone in the Hendrick cemetery in Bulah TX (which I am looking at a photo of it right now) says this - not Eldred). Eldred, James Henry, and Edward Haynes were all brothers and came to TX from SC (though I don't have info. beyond that). So, the Hendrick sisters (Obadine and Louisa) married the Coleman brothers, Edward and James. James was killed in the Civil War - I have records of Louisa requesting a pension. It appears from censuses that Louisa never remarried, but rather lived with various family members until she died. Eldred Coleman was married to Mary Jane Bloomfield.

Don't have anything to MATCH my Nancy Hendrick up to this Obediah, & Hendrick MAY BE her married name, so that is another problem for me with this gg-grandmother. Was told that she was "either an Aunt or a grandmother" by one a member of the family long ago. This man was only 5 whenever Nancy died so can understand why he cannot remember since his parents died when he was 9, thus putting the kids out to various relatives.
What I do have is this Nancy Hendrick, born 1830 in LA., lives in AR. in 1870 with Hendrick kids, Lee or LeRoy 1866 in either Mo. or AR., and Francis K. or Fannie, June 1868 in AR.
Of importance too is there is a CATHERINE CARTWRIGHT, born in Texas in 1857, in the home. This Nancy had land and extensive property but when she remarries/ or marries ? this Zachariah COLLINS ends up with the all her personal property (sells it since he is the Guardian for the 2 Hendrick kids) & then divorces her.
Because I found the Guardianship papers on Lee and Fannie Hendrick, dated 1872, we know the HENDRICK man is deceased by then. BTW, the 1st name of the Hendrick man is blank.
Is he a brother to Nancy or was he married to her and who is this Catherine Cartwright? Have never been able to trace her but know that Nancy is deceased in Oct. 1900 and buried in the Indian Territory, now OK., by Fannie Hendrick FORD.
Would dearly love to find out more on my Hendrick side.
there is a cemetery in cherokee county texas that is named hendricks after the family. lousia coleman (hendrick) wife of eldred coleman b.2-28-1830 d.1-25-1903 i walked around and did not find any taylors located there at this time but i will have to spend more time at other locations close by. if i find out any thing about john i will let you know. also when i get over to san augustine (60 miles) there is two or three old cemeteries that will need to be checked. i will call some of my distance family and see what might know this is the bridges that came here before 1814 and some still live there. yours david harris

I am a Hendrick that descends from this line. My info has Louisa's husband as James Hendry Coleman, but the info on Obadine matches. Louisa & Obadine's grandfather was brother of my GGG grandfather John Hendrick. John Hendrick's son John, Jr. moved his family to NW Louisiana (caddo Parish) before the Civil War.

This line has been extensively researched.
We were at Mount Hope cemetery today checking sites for our ancestors and in the section for Wurges there were 5 graves with the name Hendrick on them (Margaret, lawrence, John, Elizabeth and Roseanne. In our search thru the Mormon Church, I did not see 'Hendrick' listed but since the were buried in the Wurgess family plot I am thinking that there is a connection. In your family search, has the name 'Wurges' ever popped up. I am really curious and if there is a connection this would be very helpful in completing our search.
If my quick look at your ancestry is correct, I believe that you are a descendant of Daniel Hendrick of Haverhill, Massachusetts. Daniel first appears in records in Hampton (now New Hampshire) in a 1640 land grant.

The Hendrick Genealogy, by Charles T. Hendrick, was published in 1924. Your family line departed Connecticut in the early 1800s and settled in Steuben County, New York. Charles T. made the following comment about the family of Samuel Hendrick, born Aug. 5, 1730:

“Samuel Hendrick, b. Aug. 5, 1730, d. Sept. 17, 1760, m. June 19, 1755, in Union, Conn., Tabitha Sprague, b. June 18, or 19, 1728, in Lebanon, Conn., dau. of Perez and Tabitha (Burt) Sprague. The facts regarding this family are rather hazy.”

Members of this family later immigrated to Vergennes, Kent County, Michigan.

The DNA Profile for Daniel of Haverhill was established in 2005. Confirming results from two documented family members led to the identification of family branches in Pennsylvania, North/South Carolina, Georgia, Utah, Kentucky, and Oregon.

I will encourage you to join the Hendricks DNA Project to confirm your association to the Daniel of Haverhill family group. http://www.familytreedna.com/public/hendricks/default.aspx

Martin Hendrix
Administrator, Hendricks DNA Project
HendricksDNA@charter.net
I'm not sure if you're still around on the boards - I'm new to ancestry.com. My grandfather was Darwin Hendrick - he married Frieda Nummer and had four children (Ardis (Now Ardis Barber), Mitch, Steven, and my father, David) - all born in Lowell, MI. I'm pretty sure it's the same lineage - I know my grandpa Darwin had a brother named Bernie - and came from a large family.

I've sent you an email and I hope to hear back!

Robert, I have some info on "Tillman" Hendrick{s}

Here's what I have:

Moved to Kingman, AZ and was living there as of 1947. (Letter of CSA Pension Board, Aug 27, 1947 from Mrs. Lessie Hendricks Royston)

From the Social Security Death Index:

TILLMAN HENDRICK
SSN 526-36-6592
Residence: 86401 Kingman, Mohave, AZ
Born 9 Dec 1902
Died Feb 1972
Issued: AR (Before 1951)

Tillman Hendricks registered in the National Guard, was ranked 2nd Lt, in the 158th Infantry, How Co, Flagstaff, AZ

Tillman Hendricks is in my line, so I have more info on him. His father was William Columbus "Tump" Hendrick, apparently practiced medicine in the Alexandria/Pineville, LA area.

Tillman was my 3rd cousin, once removed.

As far as the "s" on hendricks, that comes and goes so I don't get excited about the spelling. Most of the time, it didn't depend on the family spelling, but however the census taker/etc. thought it should be spelled.

Rod

In my branch of the Hendricks the surname is spelled Hendrick or Hendricks. My grandfather went by both Hendrick and Hendricks, yet his children always used Hendrick as did my generation. It seemed that the earlier generations weren't so picky as to how their name was spelled.

Cathy

Just in case anyone else is looking for this answer I think I may have had the wrong person listed and that is why I was confused. It looks like I need to have George W Hendrick born in 1864. He listed his father as being born in Germany and I happened to find an earlier census which shows his father was F Hendrick 1836 born in Baden Germany. That would make so much more sense with what I have heard my family saying we are from Germany. I think the they changed their name from Hendrick to Hendricks around 1910 right before World War I began. (Not sure why the "s" made the difference from being German to American.) The name would have been changed by Perry C Hendrick(s).

You are in luck! I have Rev. John Thilman Hendrick in my data base. Have no birth or death date, but do have parents as Joseph Wyatt Hendrick (B: 4/20/1787 D: Aft 1830 Jessamine Co., KY) and Mary Drummonnd Thilman (B: 10/15/1787 Goochland Co., VA). Notes say J W Hendrick moved to Barren Co., KY 1809.

I don't have the answers to the rest of the mystery currently, but would be happy to help. This Hendrick line has been thoroughly researched.
John Thilman Hendrick

I'm trying to figure out if my ancestors really came from Germany. I have heard a family rumor that they changed their name from Hendrich to Hendricks. This seems to be accurate. However, I don't see where it shows they are from Germany.

In the 1900 U.S. Census George W Hendrich(John Thilman Hendrick's son) lists his Father's birthplace as Germany and his mother's birthplace as Indiana. His father is John Thilman Hendrick 1811 but according to his Presbyterian Ministerial Directory of 1898 his records indicate he was born in Banen Co. Kentucky...So was he really born in Germany but said he was born in Kentucky? Why would he put his father's birthplace was Germany, but then it doesn't show up anywhere else?

The family rumor was that their name was changed during World War I/II to avoid being associated with the Germans.

Does anyone have any information on either of these people who could help me out. I am brand new to this. Thanks.

That was exactly what I had found but here is my quandry, I can't find any documentation that this Charles Hendrick, my great grandfather?, is the one who married my Great Grandmother Matilda Barnard in 1880. Supposedly he died in 1891-3 but I can't find that info either. To make things more confusing, my grandfather Joseph Franklin Hendrick's obit said his Father's name was Charles E. AND his brother's death record said that his Father's name was Joseph! I believe this Charles H son of John S. Hendrick is the right person but I would just like to be sure. Thanks for your response!

I just noticed that Matilda Hendrick is living with her mother Francis I Barnard in Rustburg, Campbell, Virginia, in the 1900 Census. Matilda's marital status is widowed, and she has two children - Joe F and Lenwood O Hendrick. There is no Charles Hendrick born 1854-1856 living in Virginia in the 1900 Census. Apparently he died between the 1880 Census and the 1900 Census. His death probably occurred after 1886, since Lenwood is 13 years old in 1900.

Search the Ancestry Census records for Charles Hendrick in Virginia starting from 1860. You will see a Charles H Hendrick in Western District, Campbell, Virginia, born in about 1854. In the 1880 Census, you will find Charles living with his brother John P Hendrick. John is 10 years older than Charles, which matches to the 1860 Census record. The 1880 Census record shows Charles born about 1856, but I find this variability in age and approximate birth dates all the time.

I hope this is the Charles Hendrick you seek, and that this is helpful.
The All In One tree was titled as the heritage of Forsan. I talked to a Hendrick's here in Texas who I am related too and he said he found information from other Hendricks that Forsan was not a true relative. He also told me about the Pamunkey file which I downloaded and reviewed before starting my work.

One major difference I found in the two charts was with John Hendrick c1710?-c1789 who married Tabitha Hurt? according to the Pamunkey pedigree. It shows that John is Adolphus' son. On the All In One tree the whole family line of John Hendrick 1733 - ? married Tabitha Hurt 1740 -1790 has the same children but it shows that John is the son of Hance Hendrick Jr.

This is why I have made the comparison chart of the two for any corrections before continuing with my Hendrick's branch.

Thank you.

This work is currently being updated to add a fifth generation for many of the Pamunkey lines, and the chapter covering descendants of William Hendrick is being substantially rewritten to reflect the result of new research by a dedicated group of Hendrick researchers.

What is "All in One Forsan Hendrick"? I think we established several years ago that Forsan Hendrick is a fictitious person and a variety of World Connect gedcoms that mention him are, to put it as kindly as I can, deficient in genealogical integrity.

I would love to see what you have uncovered on the Pamunkeys though.

Bob Baird

Want to update a wall chart of Hance (Hans) Hendrick

I've asked a question about this before and now I have made a small wall chart using the Pamunkey Hendrick Family information with the wall chart of ALL IN ONE Forsan Hendrick. After talking with a relative of the Hendrick family, I took off Forsan, also because of the information in the Pamunkey Hendrick publication.

I am willing to send a PDF file that shows the two trees together in one. I have 11 different conflicts that I know of as of right now. Before adding these people to my site on Ancestry.com, I'd like to get as close to the original tree as possible.

The names and dates are color coded according to tree. Blue is for the Pamunkey Hendrick pedigree and black is for the ALL IN ONE tree. I've used red to show people and dates that are the same in both trees. Then I've listed the 11 conflicts at the bottom.

If you would like a copy to compare with your tree email me at sstuart94@yahoo.com. If you have any suggestions, questions, corrections please let me know and I'll gladly share the information with those on Ancestry without revealing who submitted what.

I do appreciate all the help I've received so far about my heritage with the Hendrick's lineage.

Charles Hendrick

I am looking for Charles Hendrick, 1854 who married Matilda Barnard in October 1880. Possibly in Rustburg Virginia. We cannot establish his middle initial. E or H or W. I would appreciate any help. I live too far away (New Orleans) to make the trip to Rustburg.

I know this is an old posting from 2001 but was wondering if you had made any progress on Enetta Harriett Hendricks.

I knew and worked with Alice Armstrong some time ago.

Let me know if we can discuss this.

Thanks.

Larry Hendrix
Charlotte, NC
