Can anyone share any information about Elizabeth Henley who was baptised 19 July 1772 at Bearsted, Kent. I think she may have married William Davis at Hawkhurst, Kent but I cannot find her on a census so she probably died before 1841.

Any help would be well appreciated.

Hi...ISO of who I believe to be two sisters who married two brothers. I am looking for Mary Ann HENLEY b. abt 1823 in GA and died in TEXAS (San Saba Co??) in 1900. She married Edward Mason MOORE on 11 Dec 1841 in Macon County, AL. These two would be my 3rd great grandparents.

Edward's brother George W. MOORE married Emiline HENLEY b. abt. 1824 in GA about 1843 also. I do not have death dates for Emiline, but George W. MOORE is believed to have died after 1880 in Chambers County, AL. George and Emiline had three children: Eliz, Anderson D. and Emiline MOORE. If anyone has any information on the HENLEY family that has either of these two young ladies in it I would appreciate any help. Thanks....

Hello

I see that this is an old post but I hope you are still on Ancestry.

I have just started looking at my Henley part of the tree. Elizabeth Henley, daughter of James and Ann Stong is my gt gt gt grandmother. She married Edward Harmes who was a tailor.

I got a bit thrown when I picked James up on the 1861 census as Gov of Islington Reformatory. I did notice that 10 of the boys were shoemakers so I wonder if James and John taught them their trade?

I would love to hear from you if you are still around. My tree is on ancestry, BROWN/SERJEANT/HARMES. You can email me direct on aakarlhamo108@hotmail.co.uk. It's different to what I have given to ancestry because of all the junkmail!!

Bye for now
Carole :)

I am descended from Mary Pinchin (sister of John's wife Charlotte). I recently found your public member tree for John Henley, it explained why I had found so little UK information about them after their marriage !! I have quite a bit of information re Pinchin family back to about 1750 in England and Wales, and clearly the story forward from Mary to myself.
Unfortunately I do not have direct information re John's ancestors.

If this would be of interest, please let me know.

Jennifer

I read in a book that Rosa died in 1959 while visiting Paragould, Arkansas and was taken to Goodlettsville, Tennessee for burial.

I'm not finding her on findagrave and I checked with Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens because other Henley family are buried there, but they have no record of her. She would have been in her mid-40s when J. Will died in 1932 so it's conceivable that she could have remarried. If so, I don't know what her name would have been then. (J. Will is buried in Randolph county, Arkansas and his first wife in Baxter county, Arkansas)

I would like to know where she's buried and what her date of death was so that I can request an obituary.

Thanks for your help,
Robin

Henley: John, A.H. Elizabeth, Cate, Meldora, Thomas and/or Nancy-looking for info on

I am looking for information on the following family tree
Henley
John b. 1811 d.1863 (I believe 1 May 1863 Chancellorsville Va-first day of fighting there in civil war) Married Elizabeth Harrison AND/OR A.H ? b. 1830
children: Cate C. b. 1849 or 1850
Meldora b. 2 March 1849 or 1850 d.6 Dec 1926
Thomas b. 1855
Nancy b. 1858

Working backwards from Meldora, who was my husbands great grandmother I was able to find a census for June 1860 Cumberland County Fayetteville, North Carolina, that lists this family. I believe John Henley enlisted in the 33rd regiment, North Carolina in 1861 and fought in several battles-paperwork shows a John Henley/Henly died 1 May 1863. Dates of birth seem to match, as well as area where he came from. This is why I believe I can't find anything else on Elizabeth or A.H. and the children, Cate, Meldora, Thomas, Nancy, etc. He died and the family gets split up.
After that I have nothing until Meldora marries Freeman Gager (my husband's great grandfather) in 1875. And nothing on any of the other family members at all.
Is it possible something horrible happened to the rest of the family when Sherman's troops marched through Fayetteville? Was the rest of the family killed? Family lore has it that Meldora was "kidnapped" "taken" by a Union solider and brought north. It wasn't her eventually husband Freeman as he didn't serve in the Civil War. Or did the mother remarry and the rest of the children take her new husband's name? Trying to solve a family mystery. Any help would be appreciated. You can either look at my family tree:Link: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/99490/family?fpid=-1425652990
email me RGager@verizon.net or just post to this thread.
I have checked everywhere I can think of.
Ancestry.com, footnote, findagrave, teafor2, and a ton more.
Thanks for any and all information!
Rochelle Gager
I am at a stand still trying to locate my ancestor’s when it comes to Thomas Smith-Biggers’s (b. 1869/70) mother and is biological father. His mother, Maria(h)'s Biggers Certificate of Death shows her mother's name as Sallie Blue (Blue is her maiden name). Thomas Biggers Certificate of Death show his mother's maiden name as Mariah Brooks and her Marriage License to Henry Biggers shows her name as Maria Henley and parent's first names on the marriage license are unlisted but last name as Henley. 1910 census shows that Maria(h) was married twice. Maria(h) would have been born abt 1850-1852 in Albemarle Cty. Va. the same place her husband was born and the "Henley" lived. She died in the district if Ivy, Albemarle, Cty., Va. Dec. 20, 1914. Thomas Smith-Biggers died May 15, 1952 in Fayette Cty. Wva. he was the step son of Henry Biggers. His Certificate list his father as "unknown", as does Maria(h) death certificate, yet Maria(h) marriage license list parents as ______, Henley. I can't find any more information on Maria(h), her 1st marriage, her parents or Thomas's father. My ancestors race would be Black/Negro/Colored/Mulatto. I am totally lost on this on. Would appreciate any help anyone could give me. Thank you and God Bless.

Searching for information on Maria Henley-Biggers b. abt. 1852 in Albemarle Cty., Va. She married Henry Biggers Sept. 1875. I show several last names for her such as "Smith and Brooks" but her marriage license shows not only her last name as Henley but even though it dose not list her parent first names, it does list her parents last name as Henley. Here race would probably be Black/Negro or Mulatto. If you have any information, please email me at C_Skipper@msn.com. Thank you in advance.
Sure it's possible, but I have not been able to connect our families with the information you have provided. My great grandfather was Jeremiah A.K.A.(James) Zeno Henley, his wife was Eugenia Smith. Their children were Clarence, Ozella, John DAvid, Alice Eugenia, Forest Laborn, Boyd, James Ernest & Avarilla Louise, Avarilla married Ora Oliver Bennett their children are Beatrice, Verna and James Zeno. See if you recognize any of these people... John David Henley is my great grandfather, he moved all of his family to Pascagoula around 1918 before my grandmother was 10 years old.

I don't know, I only know that the Alexander Henley at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Webster County, MS is my ggg-grandfather, b. 1812, d 1882. Can't seem to sort him out from the other Alexander's, but I suspect he is not the son of John and Margaret Henley.

Oh, I know what you mean, I have found that most of the people buried at Sapa are related by blood or marriage. I spent summers in Eupora with my Grandmother, Grace Rains (my mother's mother) and am finding that I am related in some way to many of the surnames that I knew back then and didn't even realize. Yes, it's great to meet another relative and exchange information. Thanks for all you've told me, it adds pieces to the puzzle. And when I go to Mount Pleasant, I'll let you know what I find there. I plan on visiting as many of the cemeteries as I can. Thanks for the info!

The Henley I talked to years ago was James Henley. I though he told me his father was James Y. Henley but I may be wrong about that--sometimes my memory is not the greatest. Here's how we are all related. My grandmother was Myrtle Irene Henley (1902-1993). Her sister was Cordie L. Henley (1892-1967). Cordie is Earline Bowen's mother. Cordie and Myrtle were both daughters of J.C. Henley and Emma Lee Glasson. Your family comes from the brother of J.C., William Alexander and Buck Glasson. Daddy talked a lot about L.A. and Trannie. My family moved to Quitman county in 1930 but I am related to many people buried in Webster and Chickasaw county--Scott, McMullen, Glasson, Henley, Faulkner, Skelton, Hastings, Jennings, Johnson, Pepper, Springer, Wofford--just to name a few. I have eaten dinner with Grace Hunter many times after the memorial service at Mt. Pleasant. I'm glad we exchanged information. It's good to meet another cousin from Webster county.

Well, I don't have a brother, but I have two sisters, Donna and Carol. I'm the youngest.

I have some census information, and I do have some pictures of headstones which is largely what I go by if I don't have some other more compelling documentation. It's true, there are Henleys buried all over Webster and Choctaw county, and I am told there is a Henley cemetery that no one has been able to locate in many years.

I will go to Mt. Pleasant in May, if not before, and look at all the graves and see what I can find. The thing is, I have found that sometimes there is even a discrepancy between what is on tombstones and on written records. I just have to choose which one seems to be the most reliable and is corroborated by other information. My email is legionne@aol.com.
I know your brother. We have talked before. I have found that you really can't take another researchers info as gospel unless you can find census records or headstones or some other info to back it up. On my mother's side of the family we have several John Blumhorst living in southern Illinois. His wife was Minnie Schalke. There are also many Minnie's married to many John Blumhorst. Minnie was born in 1862. Several family trees have Minnie married to John b. 1873. That would make Minnie 19 on the day they got married and John would be 8. I had to search for months to sort it all out. I finally found a John born 1853 and he had the right brother and the obit tied the 2 together. Some of my info on the Henleys may be wrong. I have found Henley's buried all over Webster county but I haven't been to all the cemeteries yet. sharon.f.wright@att.net

Perhaps that is the problem, I have suspected that we have been mixing up two Alexanders. Some of the family trees are also confusing these Alexanders with an Alexander that as born in 1832. Hopefully I can get to the bottom of things and sort out which Alexander is my Alexander when I go up there. (I live near Jackson).

There is still a Henley family reunion the first Sunday of every August in Eupora at the Country Club, Erline usually handles that. We have also started having a reunion of the Henry Claude Henley family at the old Home Place near Sapa. He was my grandfather, and the son of William A. Henley and Mary Buckner Glasson Henley. My Daddy was James Y. Henley. He and my mother, Reba, are buried at Sapa. Linnie Henley was my grandmother.

My dad remembers J.C. Henley very well. I have talked to Earline Bowen at the church service on Mother's Day. My grandmother was Myrtle Henley who married J.O. Fortner. They are both buried at Sapa. Daddy was really mad when they divided the church and the cemetery. He says his mom and dad are buried on Hwy 82. I have Alex Henley b. 1812 d. 1882 born in Randolph county, North Carolina. Children were: Susan, Mary, Atta, Holle, Frances & Joseph W. For Alex Henley 1816-1869 I do not have a place of birth. Children were: Louisa, Sterling, Nancy, William Alexander who married Buck Glasson (buried at Sapa), Robert, Missouri and John Calvin. Do the Henley's still have the reunion at the country club?
