You can find Johann Henn, born December 15, 1766 in Katzweiler. The major of Katzweiler was a Henn starting in 1820 for a couple of years. Unfortunately there are are no additional family records. Johann Henn could be the father of your Wilhelm Henn. Typically men married with about 20 years those days. One of my ancestors was Matthias Henn born around 1765. However, I don't now father and mother either. Emmigration from Katzweiler in the 19th century was mostly to North America und Austria/Hungary danube region. Ther are still Henn's living in Katzweiler today. Good luck for your search

http://www.geni.com/people/Johann-Henn/6000000002992370843

Closing this question. The answer is Yes. Joseph Henn and Valentine "Walter" Henne were brothers. The original spelling was Henn. Both brothers lived at the same street address at one time, both had married women named Minnie. The change of spelling may have been a practical decision to eliminate confusion.

I have researched the Germishuys Family quite extensively but never paid a lot of attention to my grandmother. I dont know a lot about her but it's interesting to note that her full names appear in your listing. She was Elizabeth Maria Henn born 24 December 1900, died 21 May 1987. She married my Grandfather Johannes Jochemus Germishuys born 5 March 1894, died 17 April 1966. They lived in Gansbaai close to Caledon. This all ties up very closely to the Henns you are talking about...can you help?

Thanks for that Vicky, I've checked them out and never realised what eminent brothers my great grandfather had!

Revd John Henn was Robert John's father (my GG grandfather), but I have no idea who John's parents were. The 1841 census has John (then aged about 10) staying with William Umpreville and his wife Elizabeth. Intriguingly Elizabeth seems to be a Henn (born c 1804), but I cannot find John's birth parents (possibly abroad or deceased) and I cannot find any siblings (of course, he may have been an only child). Can you, or anybody, cast any light on this?

As you say John married a Catherine Holcroft who also, it seems, comes from an eminent family.

Thanks very much!

Hello!

My paternal grandmother was a Henn and my great grandfather was a Robert John Henn born in Dec 1854, in Kings Norton, Birmingham. He had at least one sister Florence Umfriville Henn who died in 1951 at the age of 93. Robert became a Bank Manager and moved around with promotions from Edgbaston, Knowle, Stourbridge and Leamington. He married a Lydia Burns in 1890 and they has three (highly talented) daughters, Kathleen (who worked with Alcock & Brown the aviators), Winifred (from whom I am descended) and Mabel Threlfall Henn (a concert pianist).

Robert died in 1901 (at 46 years old) and Lydia died three years later leaving the girls (then 12, 11 and 6) to Florence (my Great Great Aunt) to bring them up and to marry them off (unhappily in two cases). My second cousin's widow has recently given me the Henn family bible which has prompted me to find my Henn routes.

There is a family of Henn's who run a jewellery business in Wolverhampton, but I haven't yet worked out whether there is any connection.

Do any of these names ring a bell to you? Did you get any response to your note?

Kindest regards

My great great grandfather was named George Henn. Originally the name was Hennessey, but he had to change it when he came to America. My father tells me, that it had to do something with the Hennessey Tobacco company?? Anyway, my father is 81 and has trouble remembering any real details, but he does remember he married an Indian Chiefs daughter...dont know her name but it is a family dispute that she was either from the seminoux or pawnee....does any of this ring familiar? I like you am also trying to piece things together, any help either you or I could offer eachother would be wonderful.
Thank you,
Tenia Allwardt Apodaca

Diane, Sorry for the delay in replying but circumstances do not always allow me enough time for genealogy. Our facts concur quite extensively. We are on the same family line. My great-grandfather James Henry Warrington was married to GREAT-GRANDMOTHER - MARIA ELIZABETH HENN , BORN 19 MAY 1839 - DIED 31 JAN 1909. SHE IS BURIED ALONE IN HERMANUS CEMETRY. SHE WAS CALLED TANTE BETTA (AUNTY BETTA) AND SOMEHOW HER INITIALS ARE WRONG ON HER TOMBSTONE - E.M. WARRINGTON INSTEAD OF M.E.
SHE WAS THE OLDER SISTER OF MAGDALENA CHRISTINA HENN , BORN 23 JULY 1841 - MARRIED HENRY WILKENS PLUMRIDGE ON 31.3.1862 IN NG KERK CALEDON. HE DIED 24 NOV 1919 AGED 84 YEARS. I SEE THAT HER INITIALS HAVE ALSO BEEN GIVEN WRONGLY ON THE TOMBSTONE AS C.M. PLUMRIDGE. SHE DIED DIED AGE 70 YEARS ON 31 Mar 1911. THEY ARE ALL BURIED IN ONE GRAVE IN HERMANUS CEMETRY.

You are correct that the first Johannes michiel was born and died in 1833. The second boy to be named johannes michiel was born 23 july 1843 and emigrated to AMERICA IN 1867.

I HAVE NO RECORD OF Christiaan Dietleef as dying as an infant in 1848, but I have his twin brother Abraham Johannes Jacobus Petrus born - 9 Apr 1848 - married 17 FEB 1868 DUTCH REFORMED Church, Caledon, Cape Of Good Hope, South Africa TO MARIA HELENA HENN. Applied for MORTGAGE BOND 1897 - died 16 MAR 1899.

HANS JACOB WHO DROWNED IN 1901 WAS MARRIED TO H.H.W. SWART.

I HAVE OUR EARLIEST RELATIVES AS :
1.JOHANNES MICHAEL HERNN VON STEINWEILER, born 1680 IN PFALZ, BAYERN, MARRIED 4 JULY 1703 TO ANNA CATHRINA FLOCKERT.
2.JOHANNES MICHIEL HERNN, BORN 1704, MARRIED DATE UNKNOWN TO ANNA MARGARETHA SURNAME UNKNOWN.
3. THEIR SON - MICHAEL HERNN - BORN 1725 - ARRIVED AT THE CAPE IN 1748 - FROM HERBERGEN IN SACHSE (GERMANY) AS A SOLDIER IN THE EMPLOY OF THE V.O.C. HE BECAME A BURGER IN 1758 AS WAGON BUILDER IN STELLENBOSCH. HE MARRIED CHRISTINA OF THE CAPE (NO SURNAME - OF SLAVE DESCENT )ON 12 APRIL 1778.
4. Johannes Michiel HERNN - Christened: 07 DEC 1783 IN Lutheran Church, Cape Of Good Hope, South Africa. MARRIED MARIA HELENA HEISENERG -BORN 1778 - ON 6.12 1807. I THINK IT IS HER THAT DIED ON 31 MAR 1838.
5. JOHANNES MICHIEL HENN - BORN 22 NOV 1803 Hartebeestrivier, Caledon, Cape Of Good Hope, South Africa. DIED 10 Aug 1874 IN HERMANUS - MARRIED HENRIETTA WILHELMINA MATTHEE - BORN 21 May 1811 - ON 5 SEPTEMBER 1830 - SHE DIED 26 Jun 1882. HE CHANGED THE SPELLING OF THE SURNAME HERNN TO HENN, MOVED TO HAIDU/HERRIES BAY,TODAY HAWSTON - THEN TO HERMANUSPIETERSFONTEYN IN 1857. HAD TWELVE CHILDREN - 7 SONS 5 DAUGHTERS. TWO SONS DIED YOUNG. Johannes and Henrietta WERE BURIED IN THE OLD ST PETERS CHURCHYARD, BUT LATER MOVED TO NEW MASS GRAVE IN THE NEW HERMANUS CEMETRY AROUND 1900.
6.5 MARIA ELIZABETH HENN
6.6 MAGDALENA CHRISTINA HENN

AS REGARDS GROENEWALD I HAVE HENN MEN MARRIED TO GROENEWALD LADIES.
EXCUSE THE SMALL AND CAPITAL LETTERS BUT I AM NOT A GOOD TYPIST AND WATCH THE KEYBOARD INSTEAD OF THE SCREEN AS I TYPE.
I AM VERY GLAD TO MEET A MEMBER OF THE DISTANT FAMILY AND WOULD LOVE TO HEAR MORE OF HOW WE ARE RELATED AND WHERE YOU STAY.
I AM ON FACEBOOK.
KINDEST REGARDS.
WILLIAM WARRINGTON

Hello Diane, Thank you for your input. I got my information from alleged research done by a woman who wrote a book on Hermanus. I will now do my own research to clarify. If it was not Johannes Michiel who emigrated to America do you possibly know which brother it was. Except for church records there was no official record of births and deaths in those years. The Henn's farmed at Riviersonderend which is close to Caledon so the children would have been baptised at Caledon, the nearest church. Fronm there they moved to Herries Bay / Hawston where my Great Grandfather James Henry Warrington met and married one of the five daughters nl. Maria Elizabeth Henn born 1839. I am not at home so will clarify her birthdate when I get back home. From Hawston they moved to Hermanus where the Henn's and Warrington's started the settlement. The Henn's were five daughters and seven sons. James and Maria Elizabeth had 19 children. The Groenewalds only arrived on the scene quite a bit later and may have married into the Henn Family. I will appreciate knowing who your forefather was so I can check my records. Thank you kindly. William Warrington.

My name is Donald Henn. I did quite a bit of reseach a while back. Traced back to a ship that I believe left in 1853 from Germany. (don't have papers in front of me) I have located a lot of naturalization papers and death certificates, and other usefull info. If you would like to exchange info please let me know. This is just a few names I am researching: Wilomina; Minnie; John; Joeseph; Lawrence; Albert; Valentine (died at 18 I believe drowned). This summer I am going to scan all family albums and add to the tree. I am a Private Investigator if anyone needs help getting records let me know. (Also on a private note: A female Henn who was adopted in Cincinatti tried to contact me several years back, the letter was accually mailed to my father in Ohio. If you are reading this "Please recontact me!" The letter was lost while moving. This was in the late 90's)

We recently discovered a Benedict Henn in our family ancestry, but so far have sketchy information. Namely, the 1880 federal census lists the Benedict Henn family (wife Minnie; sons Frank, Charlie, and Joseph; daughters Annie and Clara in Indianapolis, Indiana). Are we speaking of the same person?

HENN from Limbach, in Baden to OHIO

Joseph HENN family (of Dayton OH) emigrated from the Town of LIMBACH, BADEN (part of present-day Germany). There's a family story that original spelling was HENNE. Joe married Philomena Klein/Kline, in Dayton, originally from Bierbach in present-day Saarland, Germany

Valentin Henn, (Joe's brother?), two years older, is also listed as having emigrated from this same town a couple years earlier. Joe and Val lived at the same addresses (more than one) in Dayton. My Mom visited these cousins as a child – once in Old North Dayton, another time in Tipp City or Troy.

The website for Baden emigrants is
http://www.auswanderer-bw.de/auswanderer/index.php?sprache=e...

The spelling uses the German “Josef”; the birthdate of 7-Aug-1853 matches our US records. Similarly, it uses the German spelling of Valentin.

Why Did Val and Joe Leave Limbach?

per Wikipedia:
“During the middle of the 19th century, there was a famine in the Odenwald, and many of the inhabitants left.”

ANY KIN OUT THERE?

The Anton (aka Anthony) Henn I am descended from imigrated from Offenburg, Baden Germany - born there in 1814 and came to America before 1842. His father's name was Andreas Henn from Ebersweier, Offenburg, Baden. This is all I really know. I have found no proof of other family memebers coming over with him. I believe he came in through the Port of New Orleans and traveled up the Mississippi river to get to Missouri...still trying to prove that theory. :)

My great grandpa was Joseph M. Henn, and he was born in 1848. I'm not sure if he was born in the USA or abroad, because no one in the family ever spoke of the older relatives. All I know is that Germany and Lithuania were mentioned at times.

I have a Johannes Michiel Henn who was born 20 January 1833 in Riviersonderend in the Cape Colony of South Africa. He emigrated to America in 1867. He would probably have changed his names from the Dutch Johannes Michiel to the english JOHN MICHAEL. Anybody have him as a forefather.
Greetings from South Africa
Willam Warrington

Henns of Illinois

My great grandfather was Joeseph Henn born 01/13/1948. He married Helena (Lena) and had 8 children. My grandfather was Peter born 02/29/1894 in Aurora, Illinois. All I know is that my great grandfather was born either in Germany or the area known as Lithuania, Poland, Russia during the many wars when it changed hands. I am at a stand still in figuring where his parents came from.
