I am a Hennessey to. My grandfather came across from Ireland. He was a sea merchant from what I can find out and was mentioned in the History books. He settled in Harbour Grace, Nfld. His name was William Hennessey. Also known as O'Hennessey. He had a son James Hennessey who married Susan Coveyduck. They were my father's parents. My dad was Robert Hennessey. I am unable to find out anything else about my family except for those here in Nfld. If you can help me in any way I would appreciate it.

Mary Ann Hennessey (b.1859 limerick ireland) NYC

I'm looking for any information on Mary Ann Hennessey born in Limerick, Ireland about 1859. She was married to Henry William Beins (b. about 1860 in NY or NJ). The only family we know of were her 2 sisters Margaret (b. 1857 Limerick) and Josephine (born 1876 in NYC). She had other siblings but their names are forgotten. Her mother's maiden name was possibly Frazier (Fraha in irish?).

Mary Ann immigrated to NYC in 1863 at the age of 4 with her family.

Her children were (Herbert Joseph who died at age 19, Thomas who disappeared out West, Molly/William twins who died at age 2, and Hugh Michael Beins my grandfather).

Thanks in advance,

James
Thanks Annette, James d 1958 and susan d 1978 are my grandparents. I am getting a small understanding on how to work with the Hennessey name now thanks to you. There are so many variations in the spelling. I know my dad told us once that there name was orginally spelled O'Hennessey and that one of the grandfathers dropped the O in the name. Also that his great grandfather was a sea merchant as I already told you in a previous reply. As far as I know he docked in Harbour Grace and stayed there???? All this I have to find out in the future I guess. To my knowledge my uncle Jim and aunt Annie are the only two left of my dads family. Aunt Aunnie isn't well, and I don't know where my Uncle Jim is. Haven't seen him since my dad passed in 92. Thanks again for the help. My email address is mgoodyear49@hotmail.com if you would like to converse by means of hotmail. Best of luck Madonna

I live outside of St. John's and have spent alot of time at the Museum/Archives you are speaking about. It is fabulous there. I hope you enjoy your trip and find the things you are looking for in there. Thanks for this information you sent. I am really interested in James and John since they are names that are still continuing in the family. I know my grandfather Hennessey was in the War so my next adventure will be to track some information on him like I did with my Grandfather Freake on my mothers side of the family. Again thanks Annette.

My dad Robert also was the son of James Hennessey and Susan Coveyduck. He was born in Harbour Grace. My great great grandfather who was the father of James came from somewhere in Ireland , but I have no Idea where. He was the captain of a Merchant Ship from Ireland. He was mentioned in our grade 7 history books, but at the age I was then I never knew he was my great great grandfather untill many years later. It is sad because I don't know his name. It seems the family line passed the names on to each son because my dad robert has brothers named william, thomas and James and sisters named carmellita and annie. His fathers sister mary lived with the family untill her death and was never married. The family is extensive to say the least. I am planning a trip to harbour grace hopefully this summer to check out the headstones and possibly visit some family if I can get a few days of to go. Maybe then I will be able to gather some information to work with. Thank you for the help you have given me, and if you have a question I will do my best to find an answer for you.
I looked at the 1911 Census for Waterford, and no William Hennessey, the 1901 Census comes out later this year.
www.nationalarchives.ie
I did go through a few from the website:
www.censusfinder.com United Kingdom+
You didn't give any estimates of his year of birth but
you can see some records for William Hennessey's on
www.familysearch.org PILOT under 'search records' but without any idea of age it is impossible to make decent guesses.

Annette Code
'genealogy for fun'

You are on the Waterford message board, so did William come from Waterford or just Ireland in general?
There are 95 Waterford William Hennessey records bmd's using Waterford as the Location, if you change that to just Ireland, you will get 1,314 William Hennessey records there are USA record's of of William Hennessey's who left Ireland, Canadian and some other countries as well, sometimes passenger records as well.

Using Nfld. shows a William Hennesey, resident of Avondale, Nfld, age 2 Ship Rosalina from Halifax to New York

James died 09 July 1912 in Boston born Harbour Grace, Nfld.

robert born 1903 parents Matthew and Rachel
