Seems like a long shot, but my great grandfather is Gustave Henning, born around 1853. Not sure when he immigrated. I have no information about his siblings. He married Augusta and I think had 4 children. I only have names for two of them Augusta and Walter. Gustave and Augusta lived in cook county Illinois. I have pictures that say uncle Otto and aunt Bertha. I'm thinking these are siblings of Gustave but not sure. I also have some pictures that were taken in Decatur Michigan.

I do not know which of several Elizabeth Hennings she was or who her father was. She married Thomas Beckett in 1799 at St. Mary, Portsea, Hampshire and died 05.03.1850 at 2 lion Street, Portsea.
My great grandfather Beckett was named William Henning Beckett and born in October 1843.
Do any of you know whether Elizabeth was connected to your Hennings
John Pinnell Henning and James Henning

In the 1850 census there is a James Henning living in the same household as my second great grandfather. He is the only child with a 'B' under the color column. He was 14 at the time and my great great grandfather was 35. James did not come to California with the rest of the family and I would really like to know what happened and how/if we are related.

I'm not sure what transpired in our last communication, but I can tell you what I know. My Grandfather, Josef Biel and his wife, Anna M. Henning were both born in Uder, Germany. At some point, their family moved to Berlin and then on to USA, Pittsburgh, Pa. to be exact.

My computer at home is down and out at the moment, so I cannot access all of my info. I'm borrowing one at the library right now.

I'm ALWAYS happy to join someone in researching common family names. Feel free to contact me at any time.

I'm actually in contact at the moment with the Mayor of Uder, Germamy. This is the worst time for my computer to be kaput.....the Mayor has promised to help me in my search for living Biel's or Henning's un and around Uder. I'm excited to have his help.

I hope that, in the next 2 or 3 years, my wife, my daughter and I can actually go there to see family. How excitlin would that be.

Thanx again, Bill Biel.

I have a friend in Germany , who has a Hypenated name Henning-Schoen, As I am decended from Henning"s in Scotland I have often wondered if where then did Henning originated,
Through the information I have gathered, the name has been spelt with only one N, or as Haining All in the same family, I guess it depends how educated the folk were, and how they pronounced their name, for others to write down , if they could not read and write.
Mathias Hening of Dauphin Co., PA

Hello,

It discourages me that person after person on Ancestry.com is adding "Mathias Haining" of Dauphin Co. PA to their family tree thinking that he is Matthew Haning. I firmly do not believe that this is Matthew Haning even though Leslie Haning mentions this in his book. I believe that this is Mathias HENNING. The Jacob (Haining) and Daniel (Hainey) that Leslie mentions are brothers to Mathias HENNING. All are sons of John Jacob HENNING (named in his will) and wife Elizabeth of early Lancaster Co. (which then became Dauphin Co.; now Lebanon Co.). I believe that the George that Leslie mentions is a son of Mathias HENNING.

Every census subsequent census to the 1790 census shows Mathias HENNING in exactly the same place and he resided there until he died in 1830. 1800 shows him as Math HEMING in East Hanover Twp.; 1810 as Mathias HENING in East Hanover Twp.; 1820 as Mathias HENNING in Hanover Twp. I have not found him in the 1830 census and believe that he passed away before census day.

I hope that this will save some people from taking a wrong turn in their search for Matthew Haning. For further information on this family please see: http://mypage.iu.edu/~jetorres/henning.html and http://mypage.iu.edu/~jetorres/jacobeliz.html .

Thanks,
--Jane Barr Torres

I'm looking for additional information on my great grandfather. I'm pretty sure the last names was Hennings, but I thought I'd post here anyway.

He was born in NY on Sept. 5, 1892. He married Elsie Mae Armistead in the early 1900's, and had two daughters - Elizabeth Armistead Hennings (my grandmother) and Flora Mae Hennings (who later went by Pat).

He left Elsie and the girls and ended up in Fresno California, and eventually remarried. Because of this, not much is know about him.

He died on Jan 5, 1966. I've found him in some census papers, and I found his obituary in a Fresno paper, but can't find much more about him. I think his dad was a Bernard Hennings and his mother a Martha or Mertha.

Does anyone have any additional information they can share with me?

Immediately following the ceremony a nice wedding breakfast was served. Only relatives and a few friends were invited. A crowd was at the depot to bid them good bye on an extended trip to Buffalo, Niagara falls and other eastern points. From there they will go to Galveston and may decide to take a trip to Panama. The bride and groom are eminently fine young people and their friends wish them the best blessings of life. They will be at home in Ellsworth after Dec. 1.

Glasco Sun, Cloud County, Kansas, April 30, 1914, page 1:
Death of Mrs. Fred Henning
Augusta Henning was born October 20, 1861, at Brontin, Province of Pomera, Germany. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. On April 15, 1887, she was united in holy wedlock to Fred Henning. The family emigrated to the United States in 1889 and made their home at Glasco, Kansas, where they have lied ever since. Mrs. Henning was the mother of of seven children, one of whom, a girl, died at the end of 16. For the last fifteen years of her life she had been afflicted with a severe case of headache. She took the Lord's supper on Friday before Easter, witnessed the confirmation of her youngest daughter of Easter day, and on the following Sunday while in church was overtaken with an alarming attack of headache and, growing very ill could not be taken home, staying in town at the Tobald home, her friends and former neighbors, where, up to the time of her death, she was attended upon with true Christian sympathy and tenderness. About the middle of the afternoon on Sunday she suffered a stroke of paralysis and never regained consciousness, passing away five days thereafter on Friday, April 24. Her age was 52 years, 6 months and one day. She leaves as mourners her husband, six children, one grandchild, two nephews, two brothers and two sisters.
obit for Charles Henning, born 1885, died 1960 Kansas

Glasco Sun, Cloud County, Kansas, Jan. 28, 1960, page 1:
Rites Held For Charley Henning
Charles Herman Henning, elder son of immigrant parents Charles H. Henning and Caroline Tobald, was born in Delphos, Kansas, December 19, 1885. Soon thereafter, the family moved to a farm adjacent to Glasco, Kansas. This farm was his home until his marriage to Hattie McCollough in Webster City, Iowa, on December 15, 1909. Their daughter, Marybelle, was born in Glasco. Their second daughter, Carolyn, was born in Solomon, the family having moved here in 1913.
After World War I, Charlie moved a thriving seed business in Salina, Kansas. Regarded as nearly expert in this work, men who trained under him have become successful in their turn. His daughters were graduated from Salina high school. In 1950, he and his wife returned to Solomon, to be with Mrs. Henning's aging father, J.B. McCollough.
Charles Henning died January 9, 1960. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mrs. Fred Lawrence and Mrs. Howe Jordan. He leaves his wife and daughters, Mrs. W. Kenley Clark of Houston, Texas, and Mrs. J.G. Firstenberger of Wichita, Kansas; a brother, W.H. Henning, Wichita; five sisters, Mrs. F.M. Horn, Russell; Mrs. C.B. Gillespie, Valley Falls; Mrs. F.W. Williams, Topeka; Mrs. John Lampert, Denver, Colorado; and Mrs. M.C. Pratt, Wichita; three granddaughters, one niece, eight nephews, and a host of friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were in the Danner Funeral Home, Tuesday, 2 P.M., with Rev. R.J. Wohlgemuth in charge. Burial was made in Prairie Mound cemetery, Solomon.
Charley Henning, at one time a number of years ago, one of Solomon's busiest, and one of her successful and rising young business men of that era, passed away at his home here, quite unexpectedly last Saturday.
Charley Henning came to Solomon first in about the year 1913, as a young man, and was manager of a grain elevator and feed business. He later branched for himself and at one time was very successful and was generally a member of an inner circle of active business men -- considerably more numerous in the still young and pretty much enterprising city. He was active, especially in the promotion of Chautauquas, Festivals and other promotional days inspired by a group of merchants that desired to make Solomon prominent on the map -- many of whom became successful both here and afar. To him, should be credited much of the unity of purpose which has kept alive some of the inspiration of the group from another day.
Later misfortunes overtook him in the grain and seed businesses, which daunted him not at all, as he immediately embarked in real estate and did quite well in years that were lean for everyone in the state. In later years, plagued by ill health, he busied himself in supplying friends and neighbors with the garden products of his efforts. ----- Solomon Valley Tribune Thursday January 14, 1960.

Hi Nel,
I am after forebears, I have Schulze to Martin Schulze (~1690) but just birthday dates and death date, not any other information on them. Also do you have any information on Marie Gropler, or Carl Albert Schulze's wife Sophia. I have a big circular family tree i am trying to fill in so any information would be fantastic.

Re: Etymology of the Henning Name

I am looking for Hennings that have come out of the Indiana area. My list starts with John Jacob Henning, b. 1712 in Williamsburg PA, d. 1768 in the same town. His son was Conrad, who fought in the revolutionary war, dying in 1833 in Ohio. His son Jacob Henning moved to Iowa and dies there is 1860. I have scant info on his son Adam, except that he was born in 1830 in Ohio. I would love any info or to connect with anyone who may share a portion of this lineage - email me if you have info our would like more. familytree at alicynx . com is the best way to reach me - Thanks for your time!

Hengist

Are we English Hennings related to the legendary Anglo-Saxon brothers Hengist and Horsa who were invited to Britain by the King of Kent in 450 AD? Thomas Jefferson's and other of the Founders' fascination with Anglo-Saxon government based on the rights of the individual is described in W. Cleon Skousen's "The Five Thousand Year Leap."
Or are we descended from William the Conqueror's Danish admiral Henning? The later might be true as William's granddaughter married a Henning who is the ancestor of the Dorset Hennings someone told me.
