My maiden name is Henson and I want to do DNA testing for
my brother first. Our father and family are from Nacogdoches, Texas but we know they immigrated from the North. Thomas Jefferson Henson is my great great grandfather.

Our father before he died said that our family was primarily
part Irish and part Cherokee. I want to check the DNA to find out if we do in fact have Cherokee or Native American genes and Irish genes.

Do you have Irish or Native American genes in your Henson family?
Hope to hear from you soon.

This is getting a little confusing as beginning to believe we are talking about two different Mary Abernathy's. Here's one
Mary Elizabeth Stroup Abernathy born 17 Dec 1887 Gaston Co NC. Died 20 Sept 1967 Alexis, Gastoria Co NC of Hodgins disease. Husband Coss Leroy Abernathy born 1885, died Aug 1960, married abt. 1914.
Father of Mary was Quincy Yound Stroup born April 30, 1860NC died May 10, 1920 Catawba Co NC. Mother was Susan Jane Schrum born April 5, 1864 Lincoln Co NC. died Oct 15, 1916 Highland, Catawba CO NC. Children: Helen E, Edith Jane, Roland Clayotn and three others. Mary had a brother named Grady Vance 1898-1969.
Can we exclude this Mary as not connected with Rufus Henson? They have same birth year.

I'm trying to locate more information on my direct ancestors, Jacob and Mary Redman/Redmond Henson.

Their daughter, Jane was born Jan 5, 1819 in Amherst, VA and married first, Wesley G. Dempsey and was married/not married to Richard Taylor.

I have been told that on her death certificate, it shows her parents as Jacob Henson and Mary Redman. I did find on familysearch.org, a marriage record for a John Hemson and a Polly Redmond whose father is George Redmond who was born in Germany and her mother Marry.

Also on Familysearch.org, it shows a George Redmond born 1799 in Germany, died Dec 28, 1872 in Brooknill, VA. Is it possible that Jacob had a brother John who also married a Redmond (perhaps Mary's sister) are they one in the same?

I am descended from Ann Dempsey who had children with Richard Taylor.

I have my Henson Family to 1800 in Simpson County, Kentucky. Yes, those brothers did all fight in the Revolutionary War...I had the privilege of reading several of their first hand depositions applying for pensions on file at the SAR Library in Louisville just last week (April 12).

I have Riley Henson Sr. born in 1806-1889 in Simpson County. His mother shows up as a widow in the 1820 census and Riley is listed in the 1830. He married Delila Durnal/Darnel father William mother Eleanor (thought to be Breedlove). Good luck!

Trying to find out something about Johnana (Ragsdale) Henson, whose last appearance seems to be in the 1920 census of Crawford co., Mulberry twp. She was the widow of Wesley Henson/Hinson. Her name appears variously in records as Johnana, John Ana, Johanna. She was 74 and widowed in 1920, but I don't find here in 1930. Does anyone know when and where she died, and where she is buried? I'm trying to determine if her mother, Hester, was surnamed Elliott. Appreciate any help.

Lots of prof.-family researchers out there on Henson lines. Multiple lines so you are better off joining the familytreedna Henson/Hinson/Hanson surname project (get a discount if you join through one of the projects)to rule out lines you do not match up with. Mr. G. Henson from England that hosts Henson surname project stated to me Hensons were probably Danes, migrated to UK, prior to moving onto the new world. A Henson family researcher posted that my Henson line was down from William H. Henson, family of VA and NC, he served as "Aid de Camp" to Ben Cleveland, served Battle of Kings Mountain, etc. Given Bounty Lands in SC near Ben Cleveland's bounty lands, after they (USA) stole it from the Cherokee Nation ( review your history Whiggs v. Torries) W. H. Henson said to be one of the famous Seven Henson brothers that married seven Holder sisters letter, that is located in the Texas State Archives. (can read it online) Well, family tree dna proved this erroneous information wrong, my Henson line is NOT from this rather well researched and documented William H. Henson line......so all that internet posted stuff is wrong but still out there and still wrong. Never accept what you see on these sites without some proof, paper or dna or otherwise.

Barbara....I see your post was last summer...but (William and Cynthia were my 2nd Great Grand Parents)...and Cynthia has been a bit of a puzzle, but since we're cousins...smile. I'd be glad to share some info that I've found.

I found out that Cynthia died/buried in Joplin, Mo...I have always wondered "WHY" they were there. This is one reason. William's Dad...(James Henson)...was one quarter Cherokee and he fought with the (First Cherokee Mounted Rifles), with (Confederate Cherokee General Stand Watie)...so I think...that William and Cynthia were there because he(William fought with them as well) or, they were there because they wanted to be near his (William's Parents).

If you've found out something more...Cuz...let me know...
hermanpaul61

Hi,

I am not on Facebook, but there is a George Henson in my family tree. He was one of my grand-father's half brothers. The city that my grand-father lived in was Lothian, MD. If it is the same George, his mother's name was Mary, and she had 16 children. Unfortunately, George is the only child that is not noted as having married or having children, but that may be just that the person who passed this family tree info to me from my family didn't know. Hope this helps.

Debi, I've been in touch with a descendant of this Myrtie Law and we reluctantly concluded she's not likely to be Aaron's and Sarah Jane's daughter, though there's more work to be done to be sure. Her information (family oral tradition) was that that Myrtie was Edith Myrtie Hamilton. I'm still trying to find the son's death certificate to see what it says and will certainly post if I find anything. I had the pleasure of some significant contact years ago with Aaron's grandson Roy Henson. If you're in touch with the family, please pass on my regards.

There is a Myrtie Law listed the US 1920 census in Anadarko, Caddo Co, OK. 1920 United States Federal Census
Household members:
Name Age
Frank Law 54 [34], b. in Kansas
Myrtie Law 37, b. in TX (both parents born in TX)
Raymond Law 6 [6 6/12]. There is also a Frank Law and a Mary Ellen Law buried in the Meadow Lane Cemetery, Anadarko, Caddo Co, OK that fit the dates of this census (findagrave.com), but I don't know if this is the same people on this census or if Myrtie & Mary Ellen are the same person, or if this is the daughter of Aaron C. Henson. Nothing concrete, just some leads. If you determine this is the daughter of Aaron C. Henson, I would love to know so I can add that to my database.

I'm not related to this family, but I'm doing research for a friend of mine who is a great granddaughter of Aaron C. Henson & Callie Agnes Helton. Callie is the second wife of Aaron.

Debi
The only Riley Jr I found does not belong to him--according to the death certificate that popped up-- but to a James and Lucinda. Was your Riley married to Sarah Elizabeth "Betsey" Wright? If so, he evidently is not the son of Riley Sr who married Delila Durnal and Nancy Douglass. Would love to visit with you more to compare notes.

My grandfather was a George William Henson and was married to a ruby Ann Henson. This was my mothers father. She was horned in 1925. She was the second of six kids born of this union. My grandmother died of cancer in 1942. He then married another woman and lived in fort worth Texas for a while. He disappeared in 1959with no traced of his whereabouts. My mother and her siblings had no interest in finding him because of the treatment he used on Ruby Ann. They lived in East Texas at his mothers farm. My mother is 85 at this time in 2011 and she still doesn't care about what happened to him. He was not a good father or husband. I guess I am the only one that would like to know what happened to him.

Thanks for any information, all but one daughter is still living.

Ann H.

Mother's birthplace is stated as being born in Alabama. However beyond and before this point I can find no record of him other than his death record. At the time of his death he was living with his daughter Marian Burdette in Evansville, IN. The family did live on riverboats for a time. I would really like to know the name's of his parents and their birth/death dates.
