Alex married Leila Bray in Paramatta Sydney 1915. Understand heis from the South Australian Hepenstall line but cannot find any links. Alex died in his mid nineties around 1985 at his Hurstville home

John Wesley Heptinstall was my great, great grandfather. I toured his home last Saturday. It is owned by another great, great grandson (my 2nd cousin)

I have a Nancy Anne Sledge who was married to John Wesley Heptinstall, who was a property owner. She was the daughter of Henry Sledge and Sarah Ivey. He was the son of William Heptinstall and Dolly B. (dont know if that is a middle initial or last name initial). Nancy Sledge Heptinstall had a daughter named Annie Soule Heptinstall Newsom. John Wesley Heptinstall was born in North Carolina. I think it was Halifax county, though, not Warren County, but he might have had relatives there or died there, or lived there or something. I dont really know for sure.

John Wesley (1812 - 1890) was the son of William (1775-1824) and Dolly (1775- ?)
John Wesley had 7 children.

I have John Wesley Heptinstall (b. 2/16/1812 in Halifax county)...d. around 11/25/1890)who married Nancy Anne Sledge. He had a child named Annie Heptinstall. He was a preacher and property owner. John Heptinstall's father was William Heptinstall. His mother was Dolly B. Nancy Anne Sledges parents were Henry Sledge and Sarah Ivey. John Wesley owned a Business in Littleton, I believe (not sure). He was a large landowner and slaveholder.

I am looking for information about William and Dolly B Heptinstall and also Henry Sledge and Sarah Ivey.

Hi Peter,I am the great granddaughter of James Dinning,he was the brother of William Dunning who married Eva Anderton.
James was cut off for reasons unknown to any of my family and chose to assume the name they had before they left Scotland,we never knew anything about him and my great aunt Ethel always thought he was an only child and his parents had died when he was young.

My mum was a Heptinstall and so was my Grandad.
I am in the process of tracing the family too.

Grandad lived in Brotherton, nr Knottingley and his parents lived in Knottingley after moving from Wakefield in the early 1900s.

My grandmother, Nancy Hepinstall, grew up in the "Edmunds-Heptinstall" home in Littleton, NC. The home is now owned by Charles Vaughan.
Nancy was born in 1881 and died in Y State in 1975

Heptinstall of Normanton, Yorkshire

I am specifically interested in John Heptinstall/Hiptinstall/Heptenstall (born 1801/2), who married Ann (surname unknown)from Warwickshire. Unclear if they married in Yorks or Warks, but their first child was born in 1830 in Birmingham (UK) and they lived the remainder of their lives in Birmingham.

John gives Normanton as his place of birth on census records and there is a possible match on IGI with a christening of a John Heptenstall on 28 MAR 1802 in Normanton, Yorkshire to Joseph and Ann.

If anyone has additional information or can tell me if I can get the parish registers on microfiche or CD, I would love to hear from them!

I have a Hepenstall interest from the general Pontefract area. Mine stem from an Ann Hepenstall who married John Ball 1 Feb 1806 whose daughter Mary Ann married a Hemingway.

From what I have traced so far Ann appears to be dau of Thomas Hepenstall and Elizabeth Sainter, Thomas being son of William Hepenstall and Ann Middleton.

Margaret Heptinstall nee Woods

I am looking for any information about my aunt's family. Margaret Heptinstall was born Woods & in 1901 her parents lived in the Toxteth area of Liverpool & believe their names to be William (working as a railway fireman) & Elizabeth. There were 2 children from the marriage, William & Margaret & that during childhood they may have been placed in institutions in the area! Margaret married Geoffrey & lived in Doncaster having a daughter Mary Patricia, known as Pat. Margaret was later widowed & lived in Sheffield.
Any information regarding Margaret, William or their parents would be much appreciated in finding out more about my Woods ancestry. Many Thanks in advance.

Caleb Heptinstall who was married to Tege Greer is my ancester. Their son, William Greer Heptinstall, is our link to Caleb. William's son, Patrick Henry and family, came to Texas in the late 1860's. We are unable to find Caleb's parents and any information you might have would be appreciated.

I do nto have any information on a Jessie Heptinstall. The only Heptinstall in our family was Minerva Heptinstall of Bedford and Lee County who married Franklin Headen in 1841. Their descendants were all Headens.

I am doing some research about the Heptinstall family in the UK.

My ggm was a Heptinstall and we have traced her line back to the late 1700s.

I am interested in W.B. Heptinstall.

Since he had 2 decendents called William Bradford, perhaps we can assume that W.B. also had the same name.

Perhaps his father was born in Bradford, Yorkshire?

Has any more information come to light about this recently?

Thanks for the reply. I'm in the UK (although I'm not British), and thought it might be nice to connect the two families.

I had hoped that in the year since the original message was posted that someone might have found WB's father's name.

It is possible that his father was born 1780s in Bradford which makes it possible that he was a relative of my ancestor (George Heptinstall, b. 1780s).

I plan a trip to the area in a few months to visit the parishes to search for records. If I find a William born in Bradford in the 1780s, I'll let you all know.

My family link with Heptinstalls is on my mother's side. I have traced back to my ggrandfather Charles who was born in a small village near Pontefract called Purston Jaglin, I have tried to get his birth cert. but only info on his father is from the marriage cert for a Peter Heptinstall a miner. Peter's parents may have been Wm and Rachel but cannot seem to verify this. Please send any info if you can.

Hi, I have only just found this site. Regarding your enquirey, even though I have not researched the surname in regards to genealogy. I am interested in surnames as historical indicators. The name Heptinstall is a derivative rather than the root name. The root is taken from a village on the east lancashire/west yorkshire border. The Village itself is called Heptonstall.

I have also found that this name indicates a Nordic (viking) settlement so our common ancestry is within this geographic area. The name whilst quite common in south yorks is mainly found in west yorkshire.

In relation to people sharing the name some of the occupational meanings range from the Nordic aristocracy (being horse owners) to the old english worker in the woods, charcoal burners, forresters, coppisers etc etc

I hope this is of interest.

I also have Heptinstalls in my family, who i believe are from Birstall in West Yorkshire- a George Heptinstall married Annie Grace and they had a son called John Rodney who drowned in a dam trying to rescue his friend......

A cousin of mine. Fromerly Carol Martin and her husband did an extensive mapping of the Heptinstall family in both Franklin and Bedford VA counties. My father was of course Fred Bernard Heptinstall Sr., his father was A. L. Heptinstall and directly related to Caleb Heptinstall. The work Carol and her husband completed dates back to circa 1700 in Franklin county. Please advise if you already have this information.

This is the information I have on Charlotte and Stephen:
Charlotte Heptinstall b. abt. 1810, Franklin Co, VA.
m. Feb 4, 1834 in Bedford Co, Va to Stephen Dudley son of Levi and Mary Kemp Dudley. Charlotte was the daughter of Caleb Heptinstall and Lize Tege Greer of Franklin Co, VA.
I have a copy of the 1850 census of Callaway County, MO and it lists: Stephen Dudley 38, b VA; Charlotte 35, b VA;
children: Mary A.J. age 16; Amanda age 12; Emily age 9; Sarah J. age 7; Silas G. age 5; Rebecca F. age 1; and a John W. Meadows age 15. All the children were born in MO. The interesting thing to note is that Charlotte and Stephen must have gone to MO with some of her sisters and their husbands. We find Sophia and John Ferguson, Jenetta W. Heptinstall and John Gilliam Tate and Rebecca Heptinstall and Bluford Hutts all moved to Callaway Co, MO, along with a bunch of Fergusons, Dudleys, Kemps and Tates.

Calvin married Nellie latter.
