John Herald- Sioux Indian?

Hello-
I am searching for information of a John Herald who is listed in the U. S. Indian Census Rolls taken in 1889. His wife is listed- Elizabeth - in Devil's Lake, Dakota Territory, John's date of birth is Abt. 1857 as his listed age at the time of this census is 32.
I found someone who mentioned him in a post but can no longer find that comment. We believe this is our relative however would like to know if he was a half-Indian or?? Any info would be appreciated.

I have a photo of Rev. Charles Herald

born abt 1848 in either Glasgow Scotland or England likely had red hair and suspect it was Glasgow as he went back and forth from there to Brooklyn, NY and he was a Rev in NY around 1899 and 1900 it seems and maybe before and for years after. It seems he may have been married but to whom? Also, a child b. by same name, perhaps his but may have been to another Charles Herald in U.S. in that area I don't know but the child was of the same name and born abt 1891 in NY. Contact me if you are a Herald and want more info. I'm just trying to be helpful. gracefultruth@gmail.com

This is about John Herald and Sarah Jane Robinson Herald. My great aunt Frances Workman Gartin was John and Sarah's granddaughter. Martha Mae Herald Workman was their daughter. My aunt Francis searched for info on them for years. She was just told Martha was an orphan, and I dont believe she ever found this out. She passed away 2009 Portsmouth ohio. My grandfather was John Lee Workman, son of Stonewall Jackson Workman and Martha Mae Herald Workman. John married Brookie Vance in WV, they both lived here in Cleveland and are deceased. My mother remembers her Grandma Martha very well. My mom is 82 yrs old and still living. If you want to talk to her let me know, she can at least tell you about Martha, your gr grams sister. I had a hard time finding anything on this family until I saw your post. If you would like, my email is meanmstreeter@yahoo.com. I sure wish my aunt Frances had this info, I never found out if she ever did before she passed. There is still another of Martha's sons, Jimmy (James Workman) living, he is in Shoals wv. It would be nice to learn more about this side of the family.

Hi Sarah,

I'm not sure if I had responded to you before but if I have not I apologize. I don't always come back to the forum here to check messages. I just assume it will send it to my email and I don't always get them it seems? Anyway, I would love to find out more about your side of the family. I don't have hardly any info on Jacob and Melissa and their descendants but we have quite a bit from before Jacob Herald. I'd love it if you could join our Descendants of James Riley Herald Facebook Group and share your info and any pics you might want to share. We have quite a bit of info and over 25 family members on there already sharing their info. I find it's a good way for all of us to keep in touch. I'm in the process of trying to find out info on the family before James Riley Herald, Sr and his parents. At the moment I am stuck but I believe their was a name change around that time. If you know anything about it I'd appreciate any help. Thanks, Nora

I do not have a connection to my Herald family line. My Herald family came from Michigan, through Nebraska, stopped in Missouri for several years and on to Montana.
Maybe you can look at my family migration and find your Herald family. In about 1843 they were in malta co NY, then in about 1850 they moved to Crawford Co PA, and in 1870 they were in Livingston Co. MI. Emmett Herald is my ggg grandfather. My gg grandfather was James Albert Herald. James Albert is the ancestor that ventured all the way to Montana. The rest of the family I think remained in Michigan. I hope this gives you some leads. Good luck. Colleen

Sense this post, I have found out a few more details. I was told that my Grandfather on my mothers side was still alive in the year 1955 because he had signed a release form so my mother could get a copy of her Birth certificate. At the time my mother picked up the cirtificate , she was about 24 and used a high school grade card from Oklahoma and her temp drivers lic. to show proof of residency and that she was who she said she was. The temp driver lic. was from South Dakota and was good for about two years before she had to renew it. Still no closer to were my Grandparents have been baried then I was when I made the first post.

Hi,

I am a direct descendant of James Riley Herald, Jr and Melinda Damron, his fathter was James Riley Herald, Sr. I found your post that said you had the proof that William Herald was James's father. Do you have proof as to which William Herald he is? Right now I have the info that it was the William Herald that was married to Peggy Doddy who married in 1817 and that they had 2 kids, James and Enoch? I have a marriage certificate for Enoch Herald in Wayne Co., Va that shows he and his new wife Lurilda Marcum were born in KY. It has Enoch's parents as a W & C Herald? I also found a death record for a James Herald who died in 1878 at the age of 70 yrs in Va but it has his parents as William and Theodona? Herald or Harold. I am very confused as to who James Riley Herald, Sr parents really were? If you or anyone else can shed any light on it, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Nora

Go to ancestry.com and look up the family tree "Jonas Wiklund Descendents". You will find a Herald beginning with Charles L. Herald in 1857. Many of my family came through and/or stayed in Ontario. I don't have any info for you. One oddity is that a radio DJ in Seattle uses email davidherald@hotmail.com.......mine is daveherald@hotmail.com Maybe he can help you.

Charles Caven Herald and James Garry Herald, Canadians from Manitoba

Hello -- I am a music historian researching a Manitoba musician named Charles Caven "Charlie" Herald (1891-1960), who was living in Winnipeg (as he had for decades) at the time of his death in 1960. I am trying to trace his son, also a musician at one time, though I don't believe he was involved in music after World War II, James Garry Herald(he was called Garry). As far as I can tell, Garry was probably born around 1917. He was alive at the time of his father's death, but neither he nor his mother (Emma Herald) appear to have remained in Winnipeg. I can not find any trace of either of them after 1960. I don't believe Garry had any surviving children. Can anyone help?

Hi Shelia I'm so glad to hear from you. My grandmother was Oma Marie Herald Walker. She would have been your grandmother's baby sister. I think. I don't have my papers in front of me but I think that's the way it goes. My grandmother was adopted out and the couple that raised her moved to Greenup co Ky. They had no children because the way I understand things he was married before and had 4 sons. His name was Greenville Nelson and her name was Pricey Robinson. I'm not sure if she was my grandmother's Aunt or Great Aunt. Our Great Grandmother and grandfather both died in 1893 ( I still haven't found out what either one died of )My grandmother was born in 1890. So she wasn't raised around her brother's or sister's and She only has 1 son living and he has altimer's. My own mother died 34 years ago so I have noone to ask. Just what I find in the libraries and court houses and some very nice people on Ancestry. Our g grandparents were John Herald and Sarah Jane Robinson. I think John's Mother was Bethany Markum.

Judy.. My grandmother was Frances Herald Vance, my father was her son Frank Vance, I was so glad to see someone here that had some of the same names in their ancestry that I recognized. I don't have much on any of them. My dad joined the CCC when he was very young. He was stationed in Nicholas County, WV. We didn't get to know his family on either side very well since we lived so far away, back in the days when I was growing up, not many people had cars.. :) I don't know how they tie into the Marcums. What was your grandmothers name?

Is the William Herald that is your ggggrandfather, was he married to Peggy Ratliff? If so I come through William and Peggy's son James Riley whose wife was Bethany Marcum, their son John Herald whose wife was Sarah Jane Robinson, whose daughter was Oma Marie Herald who married Harry T Walker. Their daughter was Helen Walker who married Russell Abdon and had me (Judy) I only found out recently who my Herald ancestor's were. There is still a lot of gaps and I can't get anyone to answer any of my Queries. I was hoping you might know.

Does anyone out there have any info on these 2? I know they were born, John in 1853 and Sarah in 1858. They were married in 1874 had 8 children and supposedly both died in 1893 in Wayne Co WV. I don't know from what and I think they are buried in a cemetary on Tick Ridge. I'm not sure about this. John's parent's were James Riley and Bethany Marcum Herald. If anyone knows anything please let me know. John and Sarah are my great grandparents who I had no information on until last year. Their baby daughter my grandma was raised by Greenville and Pricey Nelson in Greenup Co Ky. I was only 9 yrs old when Grandma died and I have no Aunts and Uncles to ask. My Mother is also deceased.

I must have the wrong George Washington Herald my George's parents were John And Sarah Jane Robinson Herald and their children were Rhoda, Frances, Riley, Jacob, Bethany, Martha, George Washington, and Oma Marie. John and Sarah were married in 1874. John was born 1853 and Sarah 1858. Some way they tie into Josiah Marcum the Revolutionary Soldier from Jennie's Creek. I was just trying to find out when they died ( supposedly 1893 ) and from what. My grandma was born 1890 and was raised by an Aunt
