I am looking for a wealthy family in mexico city, there were a couple of brothers two being Jesuits, Vicente Heredia and Carlos Maria Heredia, Carlos also went by Charles in America, he was born in 1876. We are not sure how many brothers there were, names that have popped up are Joaquin and Guillermo all most likely born around the 1870's. Any information would be great. CM de Heredia was a Jesuit Priest at holy cross and later Xaiver in Nyc.

We are 1st cousins. My father was Joseph Heredia. I have an extensive, though incomplete family tree that my sister Delores created several years ago, through talking with uncle Manny and Uncle Richard.

Uncle Richard lives in PR, but visits our cousin David in Arizona or Texas , I'm not sure which is current, a few times a year. His son Adam is in PR with him, and his son Richard was in Miami, but I'm not sure where he is now, i have not heard from him in a few years. I am in Port Saint Lucie, FL, my sister Delores is in Virginia, Debbie is in Wisconsin, and Diane is still on Long Island.

If you get this, you can email me at: my 2 porsche at yahoo dot com, take out the spaces. and I can send a copy of the family tree and put you in touch with Delores, who has become the family historian and has allot of info.

Too all others: The Heredia surname has two very distinct branches. One branch follows the Spain-Puerto Rico, NY (ny and PR may be interchangeable, not sure) route.

The other seems to follow the Spain-south America route. I would assume if one could trace it back far enough, there would a common ancestry family somewhere around the early to mid 1400's, and i would be very interested in learning more about it.

Whilst searching the database of the Archive of the Indies for individuals with the surname LEAL (see my message - http://genforum.genealogy.com/leal/messages/377.html), I came across an individual with the surname LEAL who seems to have had a Gipsy background.

LEAL, Jorge migrated from the quarter of Triana in Seville (Andalucia) in Spain to La Habana in Cuba on 13 March 1602. The record in the archive mentions explicitly that Jorge was a Gipsy. Jorge was married to HERNANDEZ, Magdalena. They had two sons who accompanied them when they sailed to Cuba: DE HEREDIA, Fabian and DE HEREDIA, Sebastian. Jorge was a blacksmith. They all sailed as part of the group that accompanied DE VALDEZ, Pedro who the records mention as Governor (I assume the new Governor to Cuba).

This information may be of interest for LEALs / DE HEREDIAs who have unconfirmed information that they have Gipsy ancestry. If you have or believe you have, please share this information on this forum.

On the name heredia, a lot of the research i have been doing has either taken me to costa rica, where there is also a town with the name heredia, or to the late 1400 to early 1500 when spain and portugal were kicking the jewish people out of their countries (after haveing been kicked out of rome about 50 to 100 years earlier). I am helping a friend in "dire need to know her background". Her father, Frank Paul Heredia born October 20, 1905 Las Cruces, New Mexico. When he was a baby, the family home burned and parents died (name of parents unknown). He and several siblings placed in someones home in Kay, Oklahoma (he attended Chilocco Indian School there). Family he was placed with (name unknown) but because he, siblings and parents lived New Mexico, and he was sent to Oklahoma, it is "assumed" the family was kin. He may have been Hispanic or Indian, when grown, he attended Indian Pow-Wow. His wife was Esther. He served in three Branches of the Military, and apparently died San Bernardino (or was living there) California apparently January 26, 1953. If you want to know about the Heredia Family. I know a little about this family and the one thing that I know is that on this side of the Heredia we all look alike. In Jayuya you will find family and as well as in Ponce. Las Carmelitas or Los Hogares Seguro is where some of the Heredia Family still live deep in the mountain of Jayuya. Good Luck....Diana Heredia
