hi Fiona, I apologise for not remembering you clearly from Amberley days but I do have a vague recollection now I think of it. I remember uncle Terry quite well, his relaxed and calm ways and his always wanting us to go to the Terranora Country Club.

Anyway, it's good to hear from you. Where are you living these days? Mum and dad have since separated, Gary is living in Darwin and David in Perth. Dave married a couple of years ago and his son Martin is now one year old.

If you send me email (***email address removed***) I can post you the Herne tree that I have so far. I have a line back to David Herne (b abt 1841) and Elizabeth Kilroy.

Unfortunately never heard more from Janine with info she had but will try and catch up with her when I next visit Perth. Likewise I am still waiting for my mum to visit uncle Frank who is said to hold a trove of info. I suspect both have more on the Hernes than I have assembled.
cheers
Brian

Not to worry. It's easy to forget about this stuff when you are not up to your ears in it. I suppose I was given a jolt hearing from Fiona a couple of days ago, came across John's 1998 post in a forum that then lead me to the Yahoo group and now it all makes sense. We are all members of the Herne family Yahoo group so I have caught up on all the stuff posted there. Jenny filled me in on some background and generously emailed me a heap of hi-res images today. I am following up with John re the KILROY side and have sent a note to Stephen to learn a bit more about the sources of his information and an update. I have not heard whether my mum caught up with uncle Frank as yet.
cheers
Brian

Next time I'm across in the west I will make time to do a crab run to your neck of the woods and catch up. Always nice to put faces to names.

Hi Brian
Just found your posting and I can only apologise. I have not had time to even look at family tree stuff of late, busy with work, travel, home, family etc etc. I shall endeavour to keep adding my information on here, and some more photos as soon as I can.

I am hoping to catch up with Glynis (Frank Herne's daughter) in the next few months and Frank lives with them, so I shall hopefully be able to gather some more info then.

regards
Janine
hi Janine
I am also a member of the Geni site but have only used it for research rather than adding profiles and histories and maintaining the history in different repositories. As you say it can be very time consuming but I will eventually get around to publishing. Do you have sources, dates, backstories for any of the ancestors?

My mum (Wendy Herne) mentioned Uncle Frank has quite a trove of information and she was going to visit him to see if I could somehow get hold of the histories. I have managed to at least get some clues going back down the Herne line so it's a start. It also explained origins of the middle name of Kilroy given to some of the males in the line.
regards
Brian
Hi Brian
My father was Patrick Kilroy Herne, son of Charles Parnell Herne. I live south of Perth and my dad always would go and visit June and Frank Herne when he came to visit, so I got to know them too. Sadly, June has since passed. My dad was very much into family history when he died (1999) and so I have recently started to take over what he had, but it is very time consuming and my family is just huge, I doubt I will ever get it finished.

Anyway, I have a few photos as well, which I shall post on here as soon as I can.

Do you belong to the Geni website? I started my tree on there and have most of my info already on that website, I am slowly transferring it over to ancestry.com.

I work as well, so it all takes time. I will endeavour to add info on here so you can access it.
kind regards
Janine White
Debbie , This is a far fetch, but when James Harney lived with Mary McNamee, and Rose Fealty, in Perry County . I think Old Mary McNamee that was married to Charles McNamee was a Nugent. But not positive. I have a newspaper clip that Announced Rose McNamee , daughter of Charles McNamee and Mary Nugent to marry Michael Fealty. There are Nugents buried in the New Lexington Cemetary. And I believe the Retallic tombstone is there too. When I get a chance I will drive over to look. Do you have any info on Ellen Nugent's family. Charles McNamee & Mary Nugent(McNamee) would have arrived in Perry county around 1850. That is the first census I have them on. Though they were born in Irland around 1780. Charles died around 1850. I have other infor, but haven't done much lately. Was just searching the board today. Let me know if you need any info from Perry County. Kathy

Hello!

I've just received my grandmother's birth certificate and it appears her mother's maiden name was HERNE (although the "r" is a little iffy).

Charlotte Herne was born in 1835-6 in Westerham, Kent. She married Robert Luff (b. 1836, Sunningdale, Berkshire). They settled in Feltham, Middlesex, before emigrating to the U.S. around 1873-4.

If this rings any bells, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thank you for whatever assistance you may be able to provide.

Hi listers.
Can someone please advise how I might be able to prove if I have found my g grandmother.

Her name was Mary O'Herne who for many years was thought as family legend had it that she had come from Ireland.

We know for a fact that she married James Denyer, and died in Croydon 1970 aged about 90.

I have found a marraige entry in the Croydon parish records for a Mary Herne to James Denyer, on the 6th August 1900 aged 20, so seems to tie in.
I have also found a family on the 1891 census with a Michael and Mary Herne born Ireland, but with several children including a dau Mary Herne aged 9 all born in Croydon. I have been through about 5 tapes of Croydon so far and still not managed to find details of any births.

Can anyone please suggest how I may be able to confirm that the entries I have found are those of my g grandmother and her family.

Any suggestions or thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Sheila Poore
South Australia

Mary Herne was married to James Walker in London about 1780. They were to St.Petersburg, Russia, where James Walker was engraver to the Empress Catherine the Great. Mary Herne's brother also worked in St.Petersburg as an artist and cartographer. They seem to have come from London. Does anyone please have knowledge of this family ?

Re: William Herne >Germany to NY

I don't think that we have any native blood in us-- we're pretty certain that our William was purely German, and that the mother of his child was Mexican/Spanish (she claimed that her blood was of pure descent of the Spanish conquistadors, but we're uncertain of that).

The most that we know about the Herne family is... not much. We don't even know the proper spelling of the name! William emigrated to America with his father (whose named was "Boerhman"/"Bowman"? we're unsure of the spelling of that as well), mother, and possible brother and sister (we're VERY unsure of this, but we heard possibilites about his brother Nick and sister Annabelle). They moved from Germany to New York when William was a child, possibly in the early-mid 1900s. William turned up later in New Mexico as the friend of Manuel Montoya, and was introduced to Manuel's mother, Miguela. They had a son, Napoleon (my grandfather), and Miguela raised him on her own, sending William away whenever he came to visit.

We're told that William died in the early-mid 1930s in a mining accident in Colorado.

That's about all that I know about the Herne's, and am looking to hopefully find out more... this seems unlikely, though, especially with so much doubt about, well, Everything involved with them!

Hope that this helped :-)
Bonnie Arthur

Descendants of William Herne

Hi,
Greetings from Alberta, Canada :-)
I've sort of taken the job of searching out my family history onto my shoulders, but have come to a lot of dead ends. One large problem with this is the lack of records that were taken in the past, and how much of what we know has been, to this point, memorized and repeated. Thus, I'm not totally sure of the spelling of many of these names-- I'll post this under "Hern" and "Hearn" as well.

In regards to the Herne family, that part of our family reportedly immigrated to the United States in the early 1900s, possibly late 1800s. They came from Germany and landed in either New York or Florida. The one person that we're truly searching out is my great grandfather, William Herne, who was only a child at the time. When he grew older, he moved around and eventually settled briefly around Duran, New Mexico, where he fathered Napoleon Edward Montoya in 1926, himself still being a young man. He tried to take care of Nap, but Nap's mother wouldn't allow him to take their son. He then moved to Colorado to make some money working in the mines, and was killed in the 1930s.

His parents still were, to our knowledge, in New York, along with his brother and possibly a sister.

Any information would be great, although I realize that this is a long shot!

Thanks,
Bonnie.

Teresa

I have been searching for my HURN/HERNE family for many years ... family oral history says that they were from the Bournemouth area. My g.Grandfather's name was Robert HURN, born 1827/29; He named his first born son Joseph Charles, born in South Africa abt. 1856. Robert HURN was either a Soldier or a Mariner. I have the names of the 14 children born to Robert HURN and his wife Jane SANSOM (dau. of Isaac and Maria) from the IOW. (Isaac was from the IOW and Maria 'Mary' possibly from Boldre, Hampshire). Robert HURN(HERNE) had sisters named Elizabeth and Ann(e) - or possibly a sister (or mother) named Sarah Ann (?). He may have had a brother named THOMAS ... this name show up twice in his offspring!. Please do contact me and we will compare notes.
Regards
Dawn HURN
(A South African now in Texas, USA)
