Hello Janis!
I believe we've communicated before (we share the Heron link through John Heron Cole) and, if this is you, thanks for responding to this thread. I will try what you have suggested and see what it does. Meanwhile, keep your eyes peeled for Ralph Heron in your travels!

If you do a google search for Corbridge parish records you can download a transcript of the register. Do remember in the 1600 and 1700's they put very little information in the parish records. So if seems a little sparse is because it is sparse. The person that did the transcription was Herbert Maxwell Wood and he put everything written in the record in the transcript

Janis

Thank you again.
I would love to be able to search the record books from 1500 in Corbridge, but, alas, I am on the wrong side of the pond. The local library here has no power to borrow such a coveted manuscript. Though I have tried to search the registers of available material (from afar) to see what, if anything, I might be able to obtain, I have often been disappointed when receiving the material. It seems the on-line array of material is often not detailed by availability and you often get the wrong item though the description sounds promising. I suppose I will have to make a trip to your side of the world and see what I can uncover!

Hi Colleen.
I amnot actualy researching any of those names, I actualy live in Corbridge not far from Heron's Hill or Hill Street as it is now.

I have most census records for Corbridge since 1841 and a number of baptisms and deaths of Corbridge residents since then.

There is a book of Registers of Corbridge which you probably obtain from your local Library by ordering it which goes back to the 1500's up to 1812.

Regards David

Hello David,
Thank you for reponding to this post and keeping alive my orginial query regarding the Herons of Corbridge. Which family do you seek?
I still fervently hope to locate any connection between a Ralph Heron of Morpeth, England, who married April 10, 1699 and another Ralph Heron of Corbridge who was born there on, or about, 9 Feb. 1713. Some accounts have this Ralph born to a Thomas Heron and Ann Hudspeth and others put him in the Morpeth tree as Ralph's (Sr.) son. I hope to somehow connect Thomas Heron to Ralph (Sr.) Heron and find the link which would make them cousins or, perhaps, brothers. Thanks, again, for updating us.
Colleen

Because your uncle's father, also Richard F, was married to Ruth Heron, born around 1900-1902. Just trying to get it straight.

Thank you. May I ask who you are? I would love to see your Family Tree as a guest. Please consider. I am David Johns, son of my Mother Dorothy Heron, who is daughter of Herbert Wesley Heron, who is son of Francis Heron. I have been trying to locate Herbert Wesley Heron (my grandfather that I never met). There is some kind of mystery with him. He took off one day and was never seen again, so he was declared dead 7 years later. I ancehave seen his Draft registration but no other records. "they say" he went for a job interview in Binghamton NY and he never came back. My aunt, Marge Heron is the only living Heron that I know. She is my mom's sister and she is around 87 yr old. thank in adv

My maternal aunt is Marjorie Heron, my mother was Dorothy Heron. I have some aunts named Bertha and Olive who I believe nerver married. I dont have a membership right now due to the expense so can you send me the obit on Frampton? dj0751 at a o l dot com? thank you so much. Dont disappear on me. I need you ! LOL

Alithea Maria Brownrigg Ferguson Heron(1891-1904)married my Great Great Grandfather, Ships Captain Alexander Mackey at the Parish Church of St James in Sydney in 1853. Their first born, Alexander Price Plantagenent Mackey was born at sea when Alithea was 36 years old.

Her Father was William Heron from Ballyclare in County Antrim. She had a brother William and a sister Sarah Maria.

I have a family tree showing William Heron of Dromore as the son of Nathaniel Heron (1707 to 1791)

I have a letter written in 1954 referring to visits to Belfast by a relative by the name of Heron from Australia during 1914-18 war. Later another Heron came over who had been married to a descendent of Gladstone. When in London he either stopped at or was a frequent visitor to "Chequers" the Prime Ministers Official Residence.

The same letter also says that all pictures of Captain Mackey's ships and other material were sent to one of these relatives who seemed to be anxious to have them. If any Herons reading this know of the whereabouts of these papers it would be great to see them.

Nealy all this work was done by my cousin Belinda Tinney in the 1950's but I am happy to share what I know.

Let's hope that my information will lead you to what you seek, and, maybe, also find the lineage of my Ralph Heron, married 10 April 1699. If I find his parents, I will have found the key to unlock a very, long search on my part.
So, to continue with what I have, let me share, with you, a letter I have.
It is addressed to 4 (?) Great College Street, Westminster, London, S.W., 1 September 1879. It references: Sir Heron, Cuthbert 76526, Heron, Ralph 9705, Heron, Thomas, 59053 and Heron, Jane, 57048. This was to the "Next of Kin Office, Robert Chambers, for Heirs, Missing Friends, Unclaimed moneys. The letter, penned by J.H. Cole, disputed the claim to Chipchase Estate, and herein, laid this historical accounting (via a family history):
1. Sir Cuthbert Heron owner of Chipchase Estate died either in a dual or war and left no issue. Thus his brother is heir to the estate but he died before Sir Cuthbert , therefore, Sir Cuthbert's brother's eldest son, Ralph Heron, Mitford Lodge falls heir. But Sir Cuthbert's wife by some means or another disputes the matter and the estate goes into chancery.
2. Ralph Heron Mitford Lodge became old and feeble and in this state while he was out walking a short distance from the house "The Reeds" took him away and held him prisoner for a few days. They had druged him and obtained from him all the information about the deeds and also his signature to the sale. They got posession for a time and was sold several times until it was bought by the Duke of Northumberland who sold it to Hugh Taylor.
3. We have traced the heirship to Ralph Heron, eldest Son of Sir Cuthbert's brother. Now Ralph Heron dies leaving no issue, thus his brother falls heir to it.
4. Now this brother (name not mentioned) dies and is succeded by his son, Ralph Heron, Bridge End, Morpeth. 5.Ralph Heron died leaving three sons. John, Mathew and Ralph.
6. John Heron being the oldest succeds as heir.
7. Here is where the doubt, if any, exists. It is claimed by my grandfather that his mother, Dorotny Heron is heiress, being the daughter of the above, John Heron.
Dorothy Heron married at Old Church, North Shields, John Cole.
8. Their son John Heron Cole (my grandfather) born 26 Sept 1855 died 13 Oct 1913.

Spelling and grammer true to the letter.

There is more to follow for you within these documents.

I cannot quote where I took this next information but this is in my collection of notations:

"Sir Cuthbert the 1st, also had another son, Thomas, baptized 27 June 1676. Sir Cuthbert afterwards, married to daughter of George Thompson of Yorkshire from whom was descendant Thomas Hoern of Boulby Co., York, who assumed title of Baronet on the death of Sir Harry in 1749 and died leaving only a daughter. Thomas Heron of Bedburn, near Hamsterley, fourth son of Sir Cuthbert Heron of Chipchase, married Isabel Scott of Allendale Co., of Northumberland and had issue (3) sons and (3) daughters. Ralph of Cowley married Elizabeth Toward of Southside, near Hamsterley and died without issue. John (2nd son) married Elizabeth Stead of Darlington = no issue. Thomas died unmarried.
Help indeed!
I think you're giving me more information than I'm giving you. In fact I'm feverishly trying to put it all in place as I type. I'd only got back as far as 'Sir' Cuthbert Heron and I just keep finding more and more about him, he may not have been 'entitled' to his title but he was certainly worthy of note.
The inforamtion I have regarding his lineage comes from the Northumberland Families vol 2 by W Percy Hedley. It details many lines of the Herons, However at that point I was only vaguely interested in looking at that branch of the family. Since then I have become much more interested. I'm going to go back to the library and take a copy of the rest of the entry to try and see if that helps fill in any gaps. It woudl be great to be able to share any information. I'm decended from Cuthbert's eldest daughter Jane who married a Rennoldson, (another ship builder).

Thank you for your reply. Do you have a family tree of this branch? My information is based on a written accounting, dated April 8, 1987, in which the author was communicating information regarding "The Old Parish Registers of Morpeth" and the "investigations into the family history," citing the lineage of Ralph Heron, Morpeth. These alleged records, having been reviewed in 1931, spoke of Ralph Hearon's marriage "Apl.10.1699" with the wife's name purposely deleted. The author states that there was an accounting of the line by a J.C. Hodgson and deposited in the Central Ref Library at Newcastle.
Later, John Paul Hill contributed to a collection of information centered around 1852, when, on Dec. 10th, a letter 'addressed from John Appleton at No.1 Boyle Street, Manchester, to the Parish Clerk at North Shields" was sent to inquire about the Herons of this area. The writer "asks for information regarding Thomas Heron, who was thought to have died theirteen to eighteen years previous to 1852 at North Shields." This inquiry was then sent to relatives in North Shields, children of John and Barbara Heron (John being the grandson of Ralph Heron, married in 1699.)
In response, Phyllis Heron, John and Barbara's daughter, referenced a letter, sent from London, asking her about the same Thomas Heron and her connection, or information, about him. It is mentioned that many relatives (and, therefore, their records) were buried in "Mitford churchyard, near Morpeth." I do not know where this is or how to contact them for record information. No one has ever been able to tell me what, or where, the "Old Church" is.
A cousin, Samuel Heron (?) must have then written to Phyllis Heron, who was residing in Leeds, and received this response from her on Feb 23, 1853 with these words:
" Your grandfather, Ralph Heron was born and died in Morpeth and had fourteen children all dead - but the only register necessary in the first instance will be these of your uncle John and grandfather Ralph Heron at Morpeth and from there to Mitford where these of the elder part of the family will be, if not at Morpeth, then in the neighborhood of Hexham will be found then before the date of them at Morpeth and Mitford, and which will lead to the last Heron in possession of the Chipchase Estate which is near Hexham and as for the original will of the last or former Heron in possession - it will most likely be in Durham Abbey, though the Estate has been many years in Chancery - and I should say that this gentleman who called on Cousin John will be some one of the officials connected with the Court of Chancery- therefore I think it not difficult to assertain either some account of the affair or him at the Court - if not Mr. Oxley the Parish Clerk of North Shields would forward the address of the one who made inquiry after Thomas Heron. If Sir William Elves (may be Rlves or Klves) had been living, he could have given you a fine account of the whole affair." He added " The lawful heir was John Heron after my Uncle Ralph died - but at that time there was not the chance there is now as the law in the Court of Chancery is so altered by act of Parliment since then that estates have been recovered which have been left upwards of two hundred years.
I'm still trying to find Ralph Heron, married 1699, parentage to tie him into the Herons of Corbridge. There is still more of this dialogue and if you find any interest here, let me know.
The family tree I have for Thomas Heron and Anne Hudspeth has their children as:
William 1668?
Lancelot 1671
Elizabeth 1674
Anne 1681
Lancelot goes on to have a son named Ralph, b. 1704 but I can't connect here.
My Ralph has all sorts of rumors about him which allude to his having married, in secret, in a Catholic marriage. though the children's births were not registered Catholic. I suppose it is possible that any dates I have for him, along with his wife's name being etched, could mean anything from his having a second marriage registered in the Church of England to the dates being recorded twice. It's anyone's guess.
Help!

Hi
I'm a descendent of 'Sir' Cuthbert Heron and I thought I'd just clarify a few things. Cuthbert was indeed the son of Thomas Heron from Gallowgate, Newcastle. they were both butchers. Eneas Mackenzie's historical account of Newcastle written as close to the time as I can find, records the following
'This gentleman is a lineal descendent of the famed knightly family of the Herons; but, as it cannot be satisfactorily ascertained whether or not an elder brother of his grandfather left issue, the Herald's college refuse to acknowledge hir right to the title, which however, he continues to receive from courtesy'
His only son Thomas Heron took the title after Cuthbert's death. Thomas wrote a letter dated 27 november 1819 to a Mr Petyt of 80 Broad Street London which states that they have the original patent and that 'Mr Lancelot Heron of Morpeth who was always angry with my father not getting himself righted, but he felt so confident in his mind that the title was in his possession, and undisputed by any rival, that he neglected to pay the heralds' fees and was of course put out of the Red Book'
I've yet to establish where the letter or any other further documents may be- the search goes on!..

Dear People,
I am trying to build my genealogical tree, but I have not been able to trace upwards a William Heron who was born in 1720 and married Margaret Booth with whom he had 5 children: William, Thomas, Sarah, Mary and Alice. Anybody has any information about them?
Hi,
I found that this William Heron (b. 1390 – d. 1428) who married Isabell Scott had two children: William Heron II and Roger Heron. His parents were Roger Heron II (of Croydon) (b. 1330 – d. 1400) and his mother Margaret Hastings and he had four brothers: Liell Heron, Jordan Heron, Odinel Heron and Alexander Heron. His grandfather (Roger II’s father) was William Heron III (of Ford) (b. 1304 – d. 1379).
Hope this helps.
Best regards, Vero.

I am also researching William Heron, 1-2-3-?? of Ashton-U-Lyne., Lancs., England and Clayhill, Ashton, Lancs. My dates involved are ca. 1720 to ca. 1780, and beyond. Some of these Williams married Margaret Booth, Ann Davenport, etc. All had very large families. The names of Beesley and Ogle has come to light along the way. Any possiblity we could make a connection of our William Herons? As you know every male in England, Scot and Ir was named William or John. Later, ca. 1850, etc. other than America, some of the family migrated to Argentina also. Any assistance is welcome.

Phil Herron

philip.herron@charter.net

Hello! As you can see, I have not checked back to this very, old post. I was delighted to see that the query into the Heron's of Corbridge is still alive and well. As to whether I am related to Thomas and Ann, it is difficult to say until I am able to trace my tree by conclusively following this branch. The story, as I know it, is that Thomas Heron of Corbridge, also had a son named Thomas Heron who was a butcher in Gallowgate, Newcastle. This Thomas had a son named Cuthbert Heron who loosely took upon himself the title of "Sir" Cuthbert Heron, following the demise of the legitimate line of the Chipschase Herons. "Sir" Cuthbert was a ship builder who had a daughter named Sarah and the "title" passed to Cuthbert's eldest nephew, Ralph Heron of Mitford Lodge, Morpeth. When Ralph died, without male issue, the "title" then passed to to his (un-named) brother and, finally, to his son, Ralph Heron of Bridge End, Morpeth. I am a descendant to this last person, Ralph. I would be interested in learning more of your information and will be happy to share what I have with you. Thank you for the contact.

Thanks for replying so quickly Margaret, looks like it might be one of those mysteries that never gets sovled. Interesting though that the marriage register for St. Mary's, Lewisham has the City of Durham written next to William's name, as from my research the surname Heron seems to originate from that part of the country and he obviously wasn't trying to hide the Heron name - it was passed down through every generation of my line to my Grandfather George Heron.

Good Luck with your continue research.

In a word, no, there was some detail - I would hve to trawl my reams of papers, that a (somebody) Heron, had a son possibly Ralph, and this man had a housekeeper, the Widow Smith, who also had a son, I cannot remember the full details, I know at the time, we just wondered if the widow's son was not as good as he should be, or maybe the rich man's son, but as to why, and who was who, we could not varify, and were really unsure that they fitted into our story at all. The elders of the family always said that our? William Smith got up to no good in the East India Company, but searching through their records we found nothing, but the first William Smith did we are sure service in the Navy at the time of Trafalgar, but still unsure he was on the Victory, after all it is a most common name, and there were just dozens of them.
Mandy, I am sorry, I am just no help, but if you are curious as to bits and bobs I know, Emmerson being my GGGrandfathers brother, please do get in touch mjudson@mistral.co.uk
regards
Margaret

My maiden name is Linda Margaret Maloney. My Grandmother Gladys Evelyn (Klock) Maloney 1891 to 1966 was born in St. Catherine's Ontario. My Grandmother always told me the story about her Mother, Susan Heron who Grandma said was a Grand Niece of Queen Victoria's. Per my Grandmother her Mother Susan (Heron) Klock was born in England and ran away to Canada to avoid an unhappy union set in motion by her parents. Great Grandmother Susan Heron married George Klock in Ontario, Canada. Anyone with any information or possible information about the British connection for my Great Grandmother Susan Heron please write! I want to solve a family mystery.
Hi,
I am the sister of the other post you received. I think you are looking for James Edward and Hattie Jane. I have the work to Robert, born in 1828, but can't get further information. Have you gone any further? I would like to find information about Robert's father, David and his Mother, the name I don't know. I hope you are having fun digging into the past. Cara

Hi,
My family is Heron and descends from Scotland. I think that a grandfather entered the US through Eastern Canada but he and his father were both born in Scotland. That is where I am stuck. I can't seem to find any records to narrow the search any further. Robert David Heron was born in 1828 and his father was David. All Robert's descendants were born in the US. I have not seen alternate spellings for my direct relatives, but I think that I will need to adjust my desire to stick to the exact spelling. When I was searching, I found some Heron's of Haitian descent. Good Luck! Cara

Heron

Hello,

My only surving grandmother is a Heron (Ivy Heron). Her father's name was Daniel Heron and he was of Scottish decent. He died young (I believe in his 40's) when she was a kid. I'm trying to find out who Daniel's parents and siblings are. My grandmother has a caucasian complexion. She's almost 87. I'm very interested in knowing about my ancestry.

Jamaicans are very mixed people. I have more questions on ancestry on the other side of my family.

Any information on the Stewart's, Campbell's, McMillan's, Spence and Heron's from Jamaica will be appreciated.

Thank you.
