Here is another source. This is on the DAR website, but they say that this information does not prove relationships.

Not sure who submitted this information, but as you can see below...it says Peter and Elizabeth are Jeremiah's parents.

"This listing does not constitute proof of lineage. It is an index to find the most appropriate DAR application to order and can not be used in place of a record copy.
Jeremiah Hess & Elizabeth Henry

I've been looking to connect these two to my family tree, and through the "Hess Family Tree and Related Families" tree I see they are there. However, I've seen conflicting information as to who Jeremiah's father is.

These two sources say that a Balsar Hess was his father:

*History of West Virginia, Old and New - Volume Two (pg. 366)

*Genealogical and personal history of the upper Monongahela Valley, West Virginia
(http://archive.org/stream/genealogicaland01callgoog/genealog...)

(II) Jeremiah, son of Balsar Hess, was bom November 30, 17791
died April 20, 1855. After his marriage, about 1800, he removed to
Little Bingamen, in what is now Marion county, West Virginia, and
patented a farm, and later bought large tracts of land; he erected a
large log house, the original part of which is still standing, and with
jthe adjoining premises now belongs to a grandson, Joshua Hess.
Jeremiah Hess married, about 1800, Elizabeth, daughter of Aaron
Henry, who, about 1785, moved from Winchester district, Virginia,
settled on Scott's Mill Run, Monongalia county, now West Virginia,
and that year patented four hundred acres of land. He had seven
children: Otho, Francis, Joseph, Mary, Elizabeth (who married Jere-
miah Hess), Rd>ecca, Jane Mary. Aaron Henry, the father, died in
1824. Aaron Henry was of a Scotch family of an early date in Amer-
ica, and from the same family that Patrick Henry, of Virginia, sprang.
Children of Jeremiah and Elizabeth (Henry) Hess were: Abraham,
of whom further; Charles, Henry, Jeremiah Jr., Rebecca, married
John Ashcraft; Elizabeth, Mrs. William Moore; Mahala, wife of
William Hildreth; Catherine, unmarried; Elenor, married Henry Nay.

I don't have the other sources in front of me. I think most of them are filtered through other people's research, but they say that Peter Hess (1755-1833) and Elizabeth Dawson? are his parents.

Does anyone have a verified connection between the family above?

Thank you. :)

There is a Jacob Hess listed in the Lutheran church register in Martinsburg, Berkeley County, (West) Virginia, who was born Feb. 19, 1798, and baptized March 1, 1798. Parents are listed as Nicolaus & Cathrina Hess. A few other individuals with the Hess family surname including some of my family are listed in the register. Please contact me if you want to pursue this lead.
Keith Hammersla, Martinsburg, WV

According to the 1910 USA Census, his parents were from Holland-Germany. If there are any Hess families still in Baden-Baden, Germany please contact me to see if our family trees intersect.
I have a Samuel Hess who allegedly died on 17 Sep 1862, which is the day of the Battle of Antietam. He is said to have married Louisa Fink in Huntingdon Co. If the pension file I'm looking at is the right one for this family, they may have had a son named Jacob, which you say is the name of your Samuel Hess's father. I'm wondering if our Samuel Hess's are the same. Would be interested in comparing notes!

I have found a formal picture of Roy Hess from Benton, Il age 21 taken Dec 17, 1941. It is possibly a wedding photo or pre- enlistment photo. I found this with my father's
(John S. Lux) personal effects. I know from having met this man and his family in the early 1960's that his wife's name was Nellie and his daughter is Robin. Robin possibly lives in the Terre Haute, In. area. I would like to pass this picture to a family member instead of throwing it away.
They moved first to Grundy County, IA then to Buena Vista County, IA. The second was a cousin of Philip, Christian, called Fred, and he had 4 sons, Louis, Charles, Earnest and John. They moved to Grundy County, IA about 1865 from IL.

My family ist from there and I live close by in Germany. So I know very many Hess in Leihgestern and around. Unfortunately here Johann, Georg and Christina are also very common names. Could you provide Christina's maiden name, a year or other relatives, please. I'm quite optimistic I might help you out.

The other people in this community obviously have nothing to do with Hess from Leihgestern.

Hello there! And your grandmother's name was Laura Jane Hunt! There is much info now on Ancestry.com regarding both Lusetta Brown and Wm Henry Hess, plus their ancestors and descendants. I even have photos of them. Just search the Censuses, other member's trees, land grants, etc... all here on Ancestry. I first found a lot of mine thru research done by my 2nd cousin, who was a granddaughter of Coroden Hess. She did it the old fashioned way before computers and has records back to the Plymouth Colony for Lusetta's line. Wm Henry's line goes back to the 1600's as well, but in Germany. Lots of good stories that are documented... like Augustinus Hess being killed at the gate of Ft. Herkimer by indians... Revolutionary War records, Civil War records... it's all here.
Good hunting! (If you really need help, write to me again & we'll send info to each other via personal email, okay?)
-Cord Cameron

Mai 1937" written by Hans-Georg Furian are named 13 families (Schulz, Petrick, Kersten, Reddin, Hell, Sell, Nehls, Hamann, Teske, Kunkel, Kühn, Lück und Hempel), which emigrated from Kuertow between 1860 and 1870, but not the Hess family.

My conclusion was, that the family did not stay for very long time in Kuertow.

I am looking for the birth place of Christian Hess (*1820), and of course for the parents.

If there is someone, who can help or is a descendants of Christian Hess, please contact me.

Christian

There is "family" speculation that he was Aaron Burr's private secretery, but no historical proof. There is documentation that he left Meadville, PA to join up with the Burr expedition from Beaver, PA. But, nothing to indicate that he left with Burr. His association with John Brown, the abolisheninst, if much more documented.

Please revise your info on him.

He was born in Camillus, Onondaga, NY, USA (not German Flats, Herkimer, NY, USA).
He died in Liberty, Jackson, MI, USA (not Jackson, AL, USA).
He did NOT father Raymond B Hess (1873-1942), his daughter Clara (1855-1944) had Ray illegitimately and Ray was raised by Wm & Lusetta. Census records can sometimes miss the mark, unfortunately.
I am a direct line descendant and know the family history/stories... so, in the interest of accurate information, please correct your records for future genealogists! It's so much more fun when it's right! :)

Thanks for helping,
Cord Cameron

Re: Clara Hess of Napoleon, Michigan: Wrong Info

Hi Gregg,
Clara Hess (my paternal great grandmother) was born in Apr 1855, so I assume she went to school in Napoleon from 1860 to 1872? She was the daughter of Wm Henry & Lusetta Hess, farmers there. They had 6 boys and 3 girls who would've grown up there. In order of birth, they are: Murray, Merritt, Charles, Coroden, Ann, Edgar, Clara, Hugh and Lydia. The towns of Liberty, Jackson, Brooklyn & Cement City also show up in the family records, but mostly Napoleon.
Also, Clara's own children must have attended Napoleon schools... they were Charles, Jesse and Cordon Cameron (my paternal grandfather & namesake). Charles was born in 1876, Jesse in 1878 and Cord in 1881, so they would've attended in the 1880s/90s...
If you do find any info regarding the Hess & Cameron families attending Napoleon schools, would you please fwd it on to me? That would make for additional & fascinating info for my records of them.
Thanks and Happy Holidays!
Cord Cameron

Does anyone know which cemetery MARY ROSE, b. 03 Mar 1787 PA d. 23 May 1866 Monroe County, Ohio is buried exactly ? Does anyone have an exact date of her second marriage? Trying to fill in record holes. Thanks!

She was first married to STEPHEN ALAN CESSNA/CISNE in 1805 PA. Second marriage was to MICHAEL HESS between JUNE 1831 and JUNE 1832, Monroe County, OH. MONROE County, OH Tax Records taken in JUNE 1831 list her as a widow and the tax records taken in JUNE 1832 shows all property listed to the heirs of STEPHEN CISNE. According to Monroe County tax office and genealogy society this indicates she had married after the JUNE, 1831 records and prior to the JUNE 1832 tax collector records.
To be honest I havent been doing too much on this for a few years (after more than 20 years working on it I needed a little break ! lol)Sounds right They were from "Carlisle" in Lancaster County PA, off the top of my head I beleive they moved to town post civil war and Gertrudes dad ran an Inn if I remember correctly , I know gertrude married Elwood Hampton I have paper records stored in a closet.. I can look over the weekend. Gertrude K Evans Hampton ended up way outliving her hubby (he had "TB" and was not allowed access to hiis children , my grandmother and her brotherafter the kids were about 5 and 7 they lived next door to their dad, after he died the RR gave Gertrude a job in the office as ther was no Pension plan in place then, She passed while living in Morrisville PA and interred at Greenwood in Lancaster. If ant of that sounds familiar then we wre related I do remember my grandmother saying she was part "german" I do not know where from.
Robin

I believe that Gertrude's father was James M Evans - son of William Watson Evans. My gr, gr grandfather Walter Gundacker Evans. He was also son of William Watson Evans and younger brother to James M Evans. Does this match your records?
