a resident of Forestview Skilled Nursing Center,
died at St. Vincent Health Center,
Friday, May 4, 2012.
Born in Erie,pa,
she was a daughter of the late George and Clara (Schnell) Will. Edna had previously worked in the china department at the Boston Store and also at G.E. in the payroll department. She was a longtime member of St. Mark the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Lawrence Park. She enjoyed reading and loved the outdoors and family gatherings. Hobbies included sewing and crocheting. She was also a wonderful cook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Hetherington in 2009; a daughter, Judith Reichard in 1993; a brother, Jay Will; and a sister, Arlene Helsel. Survivors include two daughters, Carole Eisert, husband Michael, of Silver Spring, Md. and Deborrah Adams, husband John, of Erie; two sons, Robert F. Hetherington, Jr., wife Karen, of Ripley, N.Y. and Ronald Hetherington, of Erie; a brother, George Will, wife Wanda, of Erie; two sisters, Marilyn Amthor, of Erie and Marjorie Patrick, of Keene, N.H.; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St., at Greengarden Blvd., Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. and to attend prayers there Monday at 8:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude the Apostle Roman Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Edna's family would like to thank the wonderful nurses at both Forestview and St. Vincent for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Emmaus Ministries, 345 E. 9th St., Erie, PA 16503 or the John Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation, 130 W. 8th St., Erie, PA 16501.

I am looking for Hetherington's that were originally from Scotland. My relatives came thru Canada and into Michigan.
My great-grandmother Agnes Hetherington was born in Scotland, Jan 1, 1823. She died in Detroit, Mich 15Aug, 1900. (She was a widow of John). She had 11 children....6 of which were
still alive when she passed away. She was buried in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. I don't know if there is any connection with your family...there seem to be lots of Hetherington's and it's hard to verify data. Sue

Hello Debbie, Not sure if you are still researching the Hetherington line or if have completed your research. My great grandmother was Agness (Little) Hetherington. She was born in Scotland Jan 1, 1823. She died in Detroit, Mich on 15 Aug, 1900. She was the widow of John Hetherington. One of her daughters was Mrs. Thomas Little of Detroit, Mich. (from whom I am descended.) It says in her obituary that she had 11 children, 6 of whom were still living in 1900. She was
buried in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

Even if there is no headstone, contact the cemetery sexton and have him/her check the records. The spelling may be listed in the official cemetery records. Good luck!

Hi-I have not been able yet to find death cert. I hate long story short but an aunt when she died her grandson destroyed all of the family records she had. Madding. This is the way it has been spelled in the family Hetherington. She is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Fenton, Mi.-there is no stone. My grandfather did not have the money to buy a stone in 1930. She is on my list for this summer-I have been stalled in research because of my husband's illness and a family reunion for his family-they want me to have research on the family at the reunion.

She died on my grandparents farm in Fenton, Michigan in June and is buried next to my grandparents in Fenton.

Thank you, good to know this system works! I have tried to look up Elizabeth Jane Hetherington Strong's death certif....no luck. I notice that the Scott family tree shows her date of death as 11 Jun 1930, I thought it was 6 Nov, 1930, correct? She did pass away in Michigan, yes?

Yes, did get your message about Ferndale. Elizabeth Jane was born 10/27/1856 in Scotland according to her death certificate. She also went by Jennie.

Thank you for your quick reply Saundra. That was my first posting so not too sure how this all works. I am researching Agnes (also seen as Agness), born in Edinburgh, Scotland, 1Jan 1823. She married John Hetherington (born 1820? or 1822?) from England They had 11 children, 6 of whom were alive when she died in Detroit, Aug 15, 1900.
She was buried in Windsor, Canada. They had moved to Michigan and I would please like more info about them if we are related. thank you.

Berkley, Mich. huh? I was born and raised in Oak Park, Mich.
I did find the 1880 census that showed them living with Elizabeth Strong. So sad that they had 11 children and only 6 were living when she passed away. I believe they moved from England and moved to Windsor, Ontario, and then to Michigan.

Hi-I never knew if Eliabeth Jane (Jennie) had any brothers and sisters. Jennie lived with my great aunt and grandparents until she died in 1930. She is buried with my grandparents in Fenton, Mi. I also found the death cert. for Agness Little Hetherington and was surprised at the number of children. I have never been able to find Jennie's sisters and brothers. Also I wonder why they are buried in Windor, Ont. Do you know where the other children lived? I live in Berkley, Mi. please email me @ hgms@wowway.com.

My great-great grandparents were John Hetherington, and Agness Little Hetherington. I am from Michigan. On Agnes's death certificate it shows she had 6 children still alive of the 11 children that they had. Since she and John Hetherington were buried in Windsor, Ontario I believe we may be related as I believe they migrated from Scotland/England to Canada first. Agness died 15Aug1900 in Michigan. Death certif. shows her as widow of John. Do you know where in Windsor, Ont. they are buried?

Richard L. Hetherington age 78, of Fairview,pa, formerly of Edgewood, Pa., died Tuesday, November 8, 2011 after a brief illness. He was born in Swissvale, Pa., on May 5, 1933 a son of the late Harry and Helen Selecky Hetherington. Richard was a graduate of Edgewood Senior High School in Edgewood, Pa. and Westinghouse Air Brake Apprentice Training. Following service in the U.S. Navy, he worked for many years with Bacharach Inc., in Pittsburgh, Pa. as a design engineer. In later years, he was a dedicated fisherman who loved to fish rivers, streams, lakes and the deep sea. He was also very devoted to volunteer work at the Tom Ridge Center where all who knew him, described him as a "really comically kind man." In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a sister Mary Bennett. Survivors include his wife Grace Olson Hetherington along with his children; Lisa Flear (Vincent) of Manassas, Va. and Patrick Hetherington (Julija) of Pittsburgh, Pa. He also leaves grandchildren; Christina, Stephanie, Vincent, Kaitlyn and James along with several nephews a niece and cousins. Private arrangements were under the care of Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Orphan Angels, 2212 West 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505.

My Dad was Sylvester Revelle Hetherington, son of Joseph Carson Hetherington, your great Uncle.
I am also searching my family tree and would be happy to help you with anything I find and hope you would do the same.
I hve gotten most of my info from a cousin, Mike Hetherinton family tree info. I may have met him when I was little, but do not remember him and he has not responded to my messages. Do you know where your Grandfather was born? Using proof of your relationship, (BC of you and BC or DC of your Hetheington parent) you should be able to get a copy of his BC and with that a social security or maybe a veterans (if he was one) info to learn where he is buried. I know that John Hetherington, your Great Grandfather, is buried in virginia military cemetary.

Thelma I. Hetherington, 87, of Englewood died April 18.
Memorial Services will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the Springs At Lake Pointe Woods, 3260 Lake Pointe Blvd., in the Key West Room, Sarasota.
Survivors include a son, Donald Findlay of Englewood; a daughter Joanne Bradshaw of Cornelius, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Jill Aldrich of White Lake Township, Mich.; six granddaughters and 16 great-grandchildren.
Bborn in Springhill, Nova Scotia, Canada, Hetherington lived in many places including Detroit, Union Lake, Mich., and in Englewood since 1973.
She lived the Florida lifestyle. She could often been seen walking the beaches, boating with her family and friends and fishing for tarpon. Hetherington lived life to the fullest with an adventurist spirit and love of travel.
Her sense of humor was infallible as she was known for her story-telling. She always made people laugh. She could “hob-nob” with the “city folk” and in the same breath be talking it up with the Florida “crackers.”
Over the years, she acquired many lifelong friends and was cherished for her enthusiastic manner and loving demeanor.
She was blessed with the loving companionship from two wonderful marriages, lasting most of her life.

I have recently gone back to reaserching my husbands family and have discovered that they may have originated in cumberland. We have a William Hetherington (b)abt 1801 in Clifton Cumberland (m) Mary Miller 1827 in Workington,they had three children (that i can find) John (b)1827 Rachel (b)1828 and William (b)1832
John moved to Middleton in teesdale as apprentice to a William Slee - The family have always wondered why he went so far away from home. Williams wife was Agnes Elizabeth Jackson from Kirby Stephen westmoreland. Does any of this ring bells with you?

They are in the 1900, 1920 and 1930 census in West Bridgewater, Plymouth County. I would like to find out when they died, and where they are buried. They had sons George and William 6 and 4 in the 1900 census.
