Very happy to have found it and posted it! I think there are going to be other "Hewett" ditties as I go along but I never know until I find them. But just know they WILL be posted eventually. I love finding this stuff and sharing it - just wish someone could find some stuff on MY family - lol. Well, in the meantime, I can put a little smile on someone else's face.

Charles G. Hewett, Rockland, Maine (1918)

I have no connection to this family, but found this while doing other research. This appeared in the Jan. 4, 1918 issue of the Rockland (Maine) Courier Gazette in the Folks and Things column:

Charles G. Hewett, whose name appeared in a recent casualty list as among the members of the Engineer Corps wounded in France Dec. 23, is a son of Mrs. H.O. Hewett of 116 Camden Street, this city. After leaving Rockland High School he attended the Springfield Y.M.C.A. College. He is a member of the First Baptist church and Sunday school; also the Choral Association. His engagement to Miss Vivien Foss, daughter of Capt. And Mrs. L.E. Foss, was announced during the summer. Friends of this fine young man will be relieved to know that his wounds are not reported as serious.

Walter Herbert Hewett - Australia

Hi - this is my Great Grandfather. He lived in Kalgoorlie from the early 1900's and was a journalist on the Kalgoorlie Miner. Family legend says he had numerous jobs before that and that he came from Eastern Australia, possibly Ballarat or Bendigo. We believe his parents were dairymen. Trying to find some links including birth details. I'm pretty new at this so if you have information I would really love to hear from you. Thanks. Not to be confused with Herbert Walter Joseph (his son). I have seen many family names popping up in what searches I have done his other sons were John Edwin Lisgo and Miles Henry Irving. He could also have children from a possible earlier marriage - another family folklore!

I am looking for the family of Hannah Hewett, born 1789 in VT, married Henry Fuller. I suspect Henry and Hannah married in VT and then migrated to western NY around 1820, settling first in Erie County, then later in Ashford in Cattaraugus County where they raised their family. Their children were Jane, James Hawley, Mariette, Adelia, and Colonel. Both Hannah and Henry are buried in the Maplewood Cemetery in Springfield, Erie County, NY, as are their children Mariette and Colonel.

Any help greatly appreciated! And any information about Henry would be greatly appreciated as well.

Walter Fuller

Hi, this is Kay Ward from the Texas Huetts. Name used to be spelled Hewett & also Hewitt. When they got to Texas, they changed the spelling. My ggg gf was Benjamin Hewitt/Hewett. His son was Henry Pernal Huett. I have a picture of a family & written on the back in pencil is HP Huett. Under that is the name DANIEL & under that is TX. On the bottom of the pic is the name of the photographer HUGHES, then North Foster St., Dothan ALA. I think this pic was sent TO HP & is not of him & his family. I've attached the pics so maybe you can help me figure out who this is. All my records show my kinfolks were from GA, not AL, so that adds to the mystery. Don't know if the closest photographer was across the state line or what. Maybe you can help me identify these people or know someone that is good w/that kind of stuff. Thanks~~KK kkdward@sbcglobal.net

I know that they lived at some point in New York, but I do not know exactly where. Their son Joseph lists that as his brithplace. From there they appear in parts of Canada, Lambton, CVounty and Quebec. There is also records of their son Joseph in Presque Is. and Port Huron Michigam. I also pulled up a land deed for parcel of land in Alpena, Michigam. It is from the General Land Office and is dated the 20th of May 1862. It is signed by Rutherford B. Hayes.
Beyond that I know nothing of Joseph or Lucy Huot.
I did wonder if Joseph could have been a Jacques and possibly an Denis or St. Denis.
Thank you so much for your help.
Marlene Dennis Dixon

Thanks very much for your reply. I'm becoming convinced that this Hamer is actually my 3rd great-grandfather Elmer R. Calvin. I can't find any evidence of Hamer other than the family records you mention, and it seems unlikely that Luther and Clarissa would have named their child Hamer in the late 1820s. There is indeed a Hamer Calvin born in 1848 to Luther's brother Thomas and his wife Delphia. This Hamer, I'm convinced, was named for Thomas L. Hamer, who had recently distinguished himself as a brigadier general in the Mexican War, and who was a Congressman from Thomas's old hometown of Georgetown, Ohio. But Thomas Hamer had not yet risen to any great distinction in 1828. He was prominent in the Ohio state legislature at that time, but I don't see Luther, already living in Indiana, naming a son for a local Ohio politician. How solid do you believe your family records to be on this point?

I am not a relative, however my fiance is the son of Miller W Hewett who was John Howard Hewett's brother, so in some ditstant way there is a cousin relationship between him and your cousins.
Thank you for the info..

Ramona

Miller Hewett was not buried close to her, just in the same cemetery. She died young and her husband remarried and moved to Lee County and Dougherty County, GA. All of her children are on Find A Grave. She is the grandmother of my first cousins and I am not related at all. They just buried her in the Hudson plot. If you are related, do not use the info on FAG about Pansy. It is not correct.

Hello,

My mother (Patricia or also known as Patty), was born at Paradise Valley Hospital in National City, which is located in San Diego. She grew up on a farm in Sunnyside, which is also called Bonita, also located in San Diego. She currently resides in Spring Valley (San Diego, CA).

Her sister Ginny (Virgina) and her brother Charles (Chuck) were both born in Wallace, ID. I believe they moved to California not too much later, and from there grew up in San Diego.

I know my mom attended Hilltop High School, in Chula Vista. She graduated in '68. Also, my mom was 11 years younger than her sister and 13 years younger than her brother.

Unfortunately I don't know too much about my Grandpa, as he passed away when my mother was only 10 years old.

Hope this helps and hopefully you knew them.

Hello,

I hope this finds you well. I saw your post from September 2000 about Clarissa Hewett, married to Luther Calvin. You list a son named Hamer, born 1828. Can you tell me anything about your source for that? I'm searching for my 3rd great-grandfather Elmer/Elmore R. Calvin (different records spell it differently) and I thought the "mystery child" I had discovered in Luther's household on the 1830 and 1840 census records might be him. I haven't seen reference to Hamer anywhere else, and I wonder if he might somehow be my Elmer.

Thanks in advance for any information you might have.
According to findagrave.com:

Bertha Hewett
Birth: Aug. 23, 1889
Death: Jul. 2, 1979
Burial:
Highland Cemetery
Lawton
Comanche County
Oklahoma, USA
Plot: Block 17, Lot 20, Space 3

Contact Highland Cemetery and ask who is buried in the same plot -- or if Arthur Hewett is buried at the cemetery.

It's very likely that he's buried next to his wife.

Once you have his death date, you can then order a death certificate (assuming he died in OK) -- the death certificate should have his parents' names on it and his birth place.

Hi,

I just saw this today (really old, I know). Sarah Jane Hewett is my GGG grandmother. Her parents are Thomas Hewitt (1811 Ireland - 12-25-1898 Mendon, IL )and Martha Morton Hewitt (1788 - 8-12-1849 Mendon, IL). They are both buried in Mendon, Adams County, IL.

Sarah died 12-17-1898 in Mendon, IL. I have a picture of Sarah and Thomas. Attached..

I've had alot of trouble locating her on the Ireland census. I have her born in County Cavan, Killeshandra. I'm still looking into that data.

I have all the data on the 10 children. I'll get it together for you. How far do you want to come down???

I'll let you know if I find anything else. If you've found anything, considering how old thi is, please let me know.

Happy hunting.

Tracy Tomblin Propst
