Hi Ian, our bunch were from Binfield, however there was a strong link to Northants evidenced from the fact that Jane Flavell who married Joseph Hibbins allegedly was from Northants. When they left to live in South Africa some of the older children remained in Northants with family. I have no facts and it is difficult to differentiate fact from fiction. I was give the Oz Hibbins family tree several years back that died with my hard drive. You may be interested to know that some of the South African Hibbins have moved to Oz.

Your post was 10 years ago--I have just seen it Sorry!! My william (1797) married Ann Dixey, and they had 10 Children. One of these,Henry (1825-1905)migrated to Aust in 1851--hence me-Ian Hibbins of Melb ,Victoria,Aust b 1927. My mob were centred in Horth'ants, and I am trying to tie them to the 1000 or so Hibbins in Shropshire in 1500-1700s. I have the complete genealogy of this group , but have always had touble finding counterparts in Northern North'ants or Lincs. My best guess Jeremy H & Sarah Androwes of Salop, had a son James (1684) who went to Holbeach (Lincs),and sired family there. However, I can't find a Felix in my lineage--Thus I suspect, different group. Can you offer any clues ? Ian Hibbins

Hi Leanne---long time no see.Have re kindled my interest in the Hibbins mob in Duddington--since I am now just on 81,and need the stimulus. It has always worried me that my GGgrandfathers parents, allegedly Robert Hibbins(1753/4 - 1814) and Ann (1778-1852 )could have the first of their brood (Mary Ann) in 1790. Ummmm Ann only 12/13 ?
Also-I have just found another sibling for this group ,viz: Sarah 1803-1879.Is this right?.
Would love to know your thoughts on these matters,as I now regard you as one of the gurus on Hibbins in Aust.
Kind regards Ian Hibbins.
I know this is ridiculous,so long after your orig message !
I too was born in Aust, and I am revising my knowledge of my English ancestry. My family came (comes ?) from Northants Rutland-Lincoln (1650 1950 ). Eustace and Jane ,about 1707,had a lot to do with our expansion, and Henry Hibbins and Mary came to Aust in 1851.I know there was a Hibbins family that came here about 1853 and eventually settled in Tumut--are you perhaps part of that group.
My great concern at this time is the wife of Eustace's grandson Robert, born 1753/4. My research tells me he married Ann,born1778,died 1852.She is reckoned to be the mother of Mary Ann, born 1790. mmmm! seems very doubtful.Do you have any info on this? Regards Ian H.(1927)

Joseph and Jane (nee Flavell) Hibbins emigrated with their family to the Eastern Cape in South Africa about 1871 from Easthamstead, Berkshire. Most South Africans bearing the Hibbins name are from that family. If you are a Hibbins from South Africa or are related to one please reply with your name to this thread so we can make contact.

Best Wishes

Gareth Parkes

Benjamin is buried 22 Feb 1823 aged 35 and this entry is in the Doddington records. He was therefore born in 1788. I cannot find any record of his baptism and Benwick registers do not begin until 1851. It cannot be ruled out that he came from Stamford, Northamptonshire or even Rutland where I have found other families including my Grandmothers. If I find anything definite out I will let you know but this is not an easy one

I have just chosen any message to reply to, but I am a Hibbins living in Australia.

My father was Mark William Hibbins, my grandparents were Alma and William. I have an aunt Margot.

All from the north of England.
I don't know much else as my father died 11 years ago and I have not researched as yet.

Is anyone familiar with this family?

Hibbins/Hibbons - Arkansas

I have a few Hibbins/Hibbons in my line. Sarah Margret Hibbons married John Wesley Gibbons. Her date of birth unknown. He was born 9-7-1848. I also have a Martha Hibbins who married Capt. John J. Gibbons. He was born mid to late 1850's. I also have a William Thomas Hibbens b. 2-17-1856 Conway Co., AR (son of John Thomas Hibbens and Martha Jane McColem) who married Lucinda Ann Gibbons. I am related to all these Gibbons. There is a possibility all these Hibbons/Hibbins/Hibbens are all related.
Chesterton is only about 12 miles from Benwick, so it is possible that the two families are related. As Benjamin Hibbins in Benwick married in 1819, your ancestor John Hibbins could be a brother or a cousin. So far I have only looked into this family using sources available on the internet, and as my previous experience on studying my husbands paternal family has shown, usually only a fraction of information is found that way.

I would be greatful for any information on the parents of Benjamin Hibbins born about 1795, probably either in Huntingdonshire or Cambridgeshire, England. In 1819 he marries Mary Thacker in Benwick, Cambs and dies before 1823, when Mary remarries. At the time of his marriage he was resident in Benwick. Any information about the Hibbins family in these location before 1800 would be welcome.

I am searching for information of William Hibbins and Ann. They were the parents of Felix Hibbins, of Binfield, Berkshire, England, born 05-31-1821.

Also, a James E. Hibbins who was born in Bracknel, England around 1854, and immigrated to Montreal, Quebec. He in Vaudeville starting in 1866, and traveled between Boston and Montreal.

He married Jane Crawford on 09-17-1889 and then immigrated to Boston, Massachussetts in 1893. I believe he had two brothers, John, who married Alice Woods and William who died as a young man.

Hibbins Origin

The Hibbins name is originally English and goes back to the 1500s. Because most ancesters could not read or write and the priests wrote the records, the spellings vary. (Hybbens, Hebbens, Hibbens, Hybins)

My father was James Allan Hibbins, born in Boston, Massachusetts. He had a sister, Ivy Estelle, spinster; and a brother William who died at the age of twenty eight. His death certificate states he was married, but I have not found any record stating such.

Maxine, I am making a little progress and have I believe found the family on the 1851 census at Orton Longueville which has William aged 32, Elizabeth 27 born at Haddon and John aged 5 and Mary aged 3 born at Orton Waterville. Do you have a copy of their marriage certificate? as I cannot logically deduce an Irish connection. I am going to try to obtain the 3 parish records from the Family History Centre and will let you know the result in a month perhaps.
