I may have emailed about an hour ago on another computer if so foregive me. I would like to have any information and pictures you may have. My mother was a Higginbotham. I have an Otwell Higginbotham, born about 1601.death 1652 and son of O;iver. He was my first cousin 10 times removed.
I wouild like to have info and pictures on this family.

Joseph Reynolds, Amanda Gatrell & Higginbotham Families from Wayne, KY, to Polk, MO, 1840s

I'm trying to identify the parents and birth date/location of Joseph Reynolds, born about 1819 in Kentucky.

Here is what I know. Joseph was married to Amanda Gatrell in Russell County, KY, by (pastor?) Wm. A. Cooper, on 21 April 1842. Amanda was born about 1822. Her parents were Dennis Gatrell (b abt 1875) and Agnes Payne (b abt 1789 to Philemon Payne and Rachel Wilson). Joseph and Amanda had nine children:
(1) James Tipton b abt 1842 probably in Wayne Co or Russell Co, KY. He m Loduska Leathers in AR in 1872. Then m Mary Elizabeth Heaton in 1878 in AR.
(2) Sabra Ann b abt 1845 probably in Wayne Co or Russell Co, KY. She m William Calvin Curnutt abt 1868 in Arkansas
(3) Sarah Ann b abt 1846 probably in Wayne Co or Russell Co, KY. She m Samuel Jackson Cowan abt 1871 in Arkansas
(4) Martin Taylor b abt 1848 probably in Wayne Co or Russell Co, KY. He m Rebecca Collins abt 1878 in Texas
(5) Artimecy Elizabeth b abt 1850 in Polk Co, MO. She m Samuel Jackson Cowan abt 1880 in Missouri. By that time Samuel was the widower of her sister, Sarah Ann.
(6) Lucinda A b abt 1853 in Polk Co, MO.
(7) Mary A b abt 1855 in Polk Co, MO.
(8) Joseph O b abt 1859 in Carroll Co, AR.
(9) Franklin Davenport b 1862 in Harrison, Carroll Co, AR. He m Margaret Elizabeth Collins (sister of Rebecca Collins, above) in 1882 in Denton Co, TX.

The family moved from Russell or Wayne County, KY, to Polk County, MO, about 1847-8. They moved about the same time as a few other close families from Wayne County, KY: McKinneys, Higginbothams, Dowells and Simpsons. Each of these families were related to Amanda through her mother, Agnes Payne. More specifically, males from each of these families married sisters of Agnes in the 1820s in Wayne Co, KY.

Joseph, Amanda, and several children are listed in the 1850 census in Polk Co. Some land patents list a Joseph Reynolds as a patentee in Polk Co. The family later moved to NW Arkansas and are listed in Carroll Co in the 1860 census. It appears that Joseph fought for the 15th Arkansas Northwest Confederate Regiment. Contrary to death info provided for Joseph on many ancestry.com trees, the Civil war records I've found don't indicate that he died, or even served in the battle of Vicksburg. Some civil war records indicate that a Joseph Reynolds from the 15th Arkansas NW Regiment lived until the end of the war.

Amanda remarried Henry Holt in Boone Co, AR, in 1870. She died in 1904 and is buried in Perryman Cemetery in Montague Co, TX, along with her sons James Tipton Reynolds and Martin Taylor Reynolds.

I'd be glad to be in touch with any other researcher looking at this family and any associated families. Of particular interest is any information on Joseph's origins, including birth location and/or parents. I'm glad to share the additional info that I have so please don't hesitate to reach me.

I would like to have access to your website. Hihhinbothams are hard to research becauce there are so many and all have the same names. I am a half Higginbotham. My mother was a granddaughter of William Green Higginbotham and a gg granddaughter of John Green Higginbotham. I am trying to tie the Virginia and Ohio families together. Some I have and others I have not even though think I should be Able.

In searching for my gg grandparants John A. Baker born 1813 Ten and N.Ann born 1815 Ky In 1850 1ived in Ark moved to Mo in 1870 John died 1884. his death records list wife as N. Ann.
I have a list of children an dates if that would help anyone.

I found marriage info in Posey county Indiana.

Hi Diane, No, I'm sorry, no additional information. I only ran across this because I was looking for information on George Higginbotham (m. Zeralda Baugher) father of Melissa Higginbotham. George was born in Kentucky and Melissa died in Illinois, but I couldn't find any connection between them and the people in the photo.

My gt gt grandmother Ann Higanbatton ( Various spellings) married John A. Baker 1832 Posey, Indiana. Born 1815 Kentucky. Do you have any info on this person, I've hit a wall it seems. Would appreciate any info you might have.
In 1850 they were living in Arkansas and 1970 were in Missouri.
Enjoyed the photo, would love a copy if they are connected.

Hi Regina, Moses and Frances were my 4th great grandparents. Moses daddy, also Moses, went by the last name of Higginbotham, however the son, Moses Jr's name evolved into Hickenbottom. My maiden name was Janet Kay Hickenbottom. My father was Roy Moses Hickenbottom, and his was Ira Hickenbottom. His father was Gideon, the son of Frances and Moses.

John A. Gleeson Burial Held Here
Interment rites were conducted Monday morning at Calvary cemetery for John A. Gleeson, a former Fremont policeman who left here 30 years ago. He died May 17 at his residence in Chicago, IL.
Mr. Gleeson was the son of the late John and Johanna Gleeson, pioneer residents here who lived on Napoleon Street. He attended St. Ann's church and spent his younger days here.
Surviving are two brothers and two sisters, Dr. Francis P. Gleeson of Chicago, M.E. Gleeson of Toledo, and Mrs. J. Howard Boyles and Mrs. W.O. Higginbotham, both of Chicago. The brothers and sisters accompanied the body here for burial.

My name is Ruth Morrow Anders born 6/10/38 in Wayne County, Ky to Mae H. and Lloyd Morrow. My mother was a sister to my Uncle P.Wilson H. We lived with my grandmother, Charity Isabell Roberts Higginbotham until she passed away in June, 1947 when I was 9 years old.

Saw your posting. My research indicates that we are from the same Higginbotham line. My paternal great, great-grandfather was Reid Higginbotham, and his parents were Zach and Polly. I will be traveling to Lynchburg early May(2012) to conduct further research.

My grandfather and Judge Higginbotham were first cousins. Haven't done much research lately, but want to actually go to Amherst County/Lynchburg and do some research there. They have great records kept there about that family. Also there's a Higginbotham site that gives out a lot of info. If your Father's cousin was Judge Higginbotham, we are definitely related

I am researching Dorcas and Obadiah Higgnbotham for a book called "A Good Piece of Land: A Thousand Acre Journey Through Time. I keep coming to a dead-end on their marriage records In Cranston, Dorcas' maiden name and Obadiah's origins. I have never believed that Obadiah came from Wales. I think he may have come from Lancashire, UK which had a rich history in flax textiles. He seemed to have a lot of knowledge about growing flax, making flax spinning wheels and developing early textile mills. If you have uncovered information since the original post, please let me know.

Karl was my brother. My mother's name was Ruth Baker Higginbotham Rawe. The last I knew of him was from the summer of 1989 he called and said he was going to Australia.

I have a CD from the late Earl Higginbotham and his wife. He was a life long Higginbotham researcher and was my main expert when it comes to this family line.

His information includes this entry :
MOSES HIGGINBOTHAM married FRANCES KYLE on 8-19-1750 ceremony performed by Parson Rose. It might have taken place at " MR. MEGGISONS" who was living south of the James River, in what is now Buckingham Co Virginia. MOSES was the oldest of 7 children born to the " Widow Higginbotham " 1745 Moses acquired land on the " branches of the Buffalo River " MOSES` mother probably died 1750-51. His father may have died prospecting land ca 1742 Siblings of MOSES are JOSEPH, BENJAMIN, JAMES, AARON, RACHAEL and JOHN....

I have just found Moses and Frances :) But I have Moses b 1715 in Ireland. I would know more about either PA or Ireland, when I find the marriage record. It looks like we are related :) My gggrandfather was George Washington Higginbotham b. 1841, d 1904. Where do you come in? I was born in LA, now living in SC, and about to move back to LA.
Anything in SC you need me to look up and maybe provide you a copy of a record? Looking at my list of Higginbothams, I have VA, GA, and LA. I would be glad to share with you.

It is possible there is a connection. But they are not they same person. I am finding that the Higginbothoms were prone to large families...I guess almost everyone was back then.

Francis Marion Higginbothom and his wife Mary had 3 sons, Thomas Benjamin Harrison Higginbothom (my grandfather), Oliver Morton Higginbothom, Granville Carl Higginbothom, Their Daughters were Elizabeth, Elsie. Oliver married Sarah Phillips, they had 4 daughters.

Tom, Oliver and Granville's father was named Francis Marion Higginbotham. His sister was named Sarah Jane, and she married a man named Kennedy.
