Hello
I'm trying to work out if we are connected to an Edward Dooley and possibly his brothers from Cincinnati,Hamilton, Ohio. We found an old NY Bank record of an Edward Dooley, Gold Refiner, from Lurgan, Co Galway, Ireland, born 1834, arrived on the Samuel Hicks November 1847, son of Edward Dooley and Honoria Lally (both dec); 3 brothers James Jno, Pat and Michael. I think I have traced Edward and possibly his bother's to Cincinnati between 1880 and 1892. They are possibly connected to offshoots of the Blacksmithing or smelting trades. Anyone have connections to these families.

Hi, can fill in the gap - your great-grandmother (my grandmother) surname was Skillicorn.
I am Braidwood Raymond Higgins' adopted daughter. Your mother Wendy Brown is my cousin. There were 10 children in the Higgins-Skillicorn family - 5 boys and 5 girls. You have named all the girls and my father. One son received the first medal(I think it was the George Cross) for bravery in NZ - he rescued someone from drowning, I think in Gisborne, but was drowned himself. Two brothers were killed on the same day during the first world war (after this brothers were not permitted to serve in the same regiment) - I have their medals. Can't recall what happened to the fourth son - Dad (Ray) was the youngest.
Keep me posted - regards Virginia (Ginny) Kunz-Higgins (now living in Featherston, South Wairarapa)

Joseph Theodore Higgins

In the late 1970s, I did extensive research on my paternal grandmother's side of the family so that I could establish membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). My grandmother's aunt, Marion Virginia Dabbs, was a member of DAR. In 1978, I asked my grandmother (i.e., Dorothy Louise Koser) questions about her family history so that I could prove my lineage from my Great-great Aunt Marion. Additionally, I was interested in learning more about my paternal grandfather (i.e., Joseph Theodore Higgins) because neither I nor my father (William Howard Higgins) had ever met him. Back in 1978, my grandmother told me that she married Joseph T. Higgins on October 20, 1922. She also said that Joseph had a brother (William Higgins), a sister (Sarah West), and two other sisters. My grandmother was reluctant to provide details; however, she told me that her marriage to Joseph Theodore Higgins was a secret (i.e., her family did not know that she had married) and she was married less than 2 years. She said that Joseph's sister, Sarah West, and her husband were witnesses when Dorothy and Joseph were married on October 20, 1922.

I am trying to locate the marriage license for my grandmother (Dorothy) and her first husband, Joseph T. Higgins. My grandmother's mother (my great-grandmother) was Sarah Louise Dabbs Koser Murray. Sarah's first husband was George McClellan Koser (they married circa 1902). George died on January 20, 1908. Sarah later married Murray (I do not know his first name). Dorothy used both Koser and Murray as her last name (her mother remarried after George Koser died), so a record of her marriage could have indicated either "Koser" or "Murray" as her surname. I am also trying to find a record of divorce between my grandmother and Joseph T. Higgins. I don’t know where Dorothy and Joseph got married, but I’m guessing that it was either in West Virginia or Pennsylvania (based on the fact that she was from the Pittsburgh, PA area and both Morgantown, West Virginia, and Mt. Morris, PA are listed on my father’s birth certificate. As listed on my father’s birth certificate, he was born in Morgantown, West Virginia on August 21, 1923. On his birth certificate, his father's name is listed as "Joseph T. Higgins," with an address of Morgantown, Virginia, age at last birthday 19 years, birthplace: Mt. Morris, PA, Occupation: Laborer.

I also have a copy of the "Notification of Birth Registration" (Department of Commerce, Bureau of Census, Washington) for my father (William Howard Higgins). The notification reads as follows:

This certifies that the following Record of Birth is registered and preserved in the office of the State Registrar of Vital Statistics at Charlestown, West Virginia
Name: Howard Higgins, Sex: Male, No. 29136, Date of Birth: August 21, 1923
Place of Birth: Morgantown, West Virginia
Name of Father: Joseph Higgins
Maiden Name of Mother: Dorothy L. Murray

With the marriage license and divorce record for my grandmother and any other documents pertaining to Joseph T. Higgins, I may be able to finally solve the mystery regarding the identity of my paternal grandfather.

Susan Higgins Packard

I have been at a dead end for so many years, but I thought maybe Patrick Higgins could be a younger brother of my GGG John who supposedly came to the US from Ireland (some said near Galway). My GG Peter Higgins was born in New York in 1837-40 and I really can't nail down anything for sure until he moved to Chatsworth, Il (eastern part of State)to marry Phoebe Flesher in 1867. From then on, I have good information. I could never find any siblings for Peter, which I find strange, but I know so little about John

Have you found any additional information since this post in 2006? I'm hoping to match our New York Higgins relatives. I have a new post elsewhere on the HIGGINS board.

Edward Higgins, Patrick Higgins, Margaret Higgins, Mathew Higgins, Edward Costello, Charles Costello

Edward Higgins, age 31, and Patrick Higgins, age 18, arrived in New York City on May 26, 1853. In the same party was another Edward Higgins, age 15, who was actually Edward Costello, age 15.

Later on, the adult Edward Higgins was farming in Westchester County, north of New York City, during the Civil War. Patrick's whereabouts after debarking ship are unknown to me.

Edward Costello was the orphaned son of Margaret Higgins and Charles Costello. He had a brother William Costello who came to the USA later, probably after the Civil War and maybe as late as the 1890s. He wsa still alive in 1907.

Edward Costello lived in Manhattan until 1889, when he purchased a home across the Hudson River in Weehawken, N.J. --- apparently with proceeds from the will of his Aunt, Mary Costello Higgins b. 1795, the widow of Mathew Higgins in Claremorris, Tuam Diocese, County Mayo.

I believe that all of these people were born in the Diocese of Tuam, including portions of the border areas of County Mayo, County Roscommon, and County Galway, Reland.

I'd love to connect with other descendents.
Hey Baden
we are cousins I am Elizabeth Ross Higgins great grand daughter Bette Berry was my nana and yep actually met your mum for the first time at my grandfather John Berrys funeral
we are living back in Gisborne and trying to track down some history of the family Braidwoods father Henry Higgins was one of the first school masters at Ormond school, he was suddenly struck blind at school and lingered for several years before he passed away according to his obituary he left behind 4 children I know of Braidwood and one other sister Lilly who married into the Currie family here we are in touch with this side of the family unsure of the other two siblings names, I can trace Braidwood back to Boston Mass his birth is recorded there to Henry Higgins and Elizabeth Higgins who was Elzabeth Armfield however I believe this was her name after her first marriage and that her maiden name was Elizabeth Braidwood, can not find any proof of american indian descent but will try and attach an interesting story I found in the NZ national Librarys papers from the past website where an Elizabeth Higgins went back to America to prove her claim on land on the banks of the Ptomac River in 1905 it was worth a fortune having on it a University and tram station cannot find whether it was proven or not but believe the woman in question may have been Braidwoods sister, great to hear from you any other info you have would be much appreciated and will share anything I have :)

Hi, I am just reading this message today (3/21/2012). I tried to respond to your email but it failed. I am a grandchild of Lawrence J. and Virginia L. Higgins. Are you a family member? Perhaps I could fill in some blanks for you and/or you could fill in some blanks for me. I do know they had more than 10 children. I have photos of both Lawrence, Virginia and all of the children except one. I hope to hear back from you soon.

Just started trying to find my Mary Higgins (widow) and son Thomas who went to Cheshire from Roscommon. They ended up in Marple Bridge, just down the road from Maclesfield. If you find a Mary or a Thomas (her husband was Thomas) in your line I would be interested. I am thinking maybe she went to that area because family must have been there.
Her DOB would be 1824-1830. Not sure about husband Thomas. Son Thomas DOB is 1866-67. Thanks
Hi group,

-While researching my family Stowe line, a relationship is bugging me. My GG parents are Albert Stowe [1857-1924] and Mary Molly Jane Danbury [1859-1947] of SA Texas. Most of the death certificates of their children list Mollie Danbury as the mother, however a couple of them list Mollie Higgins. I don't have the information that explains the relationship of Higgins. If anyone knows about this, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks, Travis

Hi Chuck,
My name is Michael D Higgins, son of David J and Alice Mary Higgins of Lincoln, Ne. I know your brother Bill as I am a client of his here in Omaha, Ne. My parents recommended him to me a few years ago and Im glad they did. My dad also told me that you were Bill's brother and that you were puting together a fanmily tree of sorts. I had originally contacted my dad to see if we were related to Andrew Higgins of Higgins Boats fame from WWII. I am a WWII history enthusiast and was looking for any links between my relatives with regard to service during the war. Who may have served and where, that kind of thing. Please contact me via e-mail. My address is mjdahiggy@aol.com. Look forward to hearing from you. Mike

I'm not absolutely sure I remember the person, william taylor higgins you are interested in but my name is john higgins. I was born in brooklyn,ny in 1932. when i was a child during ww11 my brother robert and i were sent to washington dc to visit our cousin william higgins who was i recall in the us military, this was 1944, in the pacific. we spent several days with his wife in arlington. i think she worked at the agricultire department at that time. william came home from the war and took us to a washington senators baseball game at which booby feller made an appearance. we traveled by rail. it seems to me that he was in the marine corps but i'm not sure. we never had any contact at all after that.

I am also researching Stoltey. I have a public tree under Elder and Smith Family. I need to change the title. Should be Elder, Green, Stoltey, Busey...

My great grandfather was Milton Stoltey married to Bertha Ellen Newell. His father was Henry Stoltey.

I would love to collaborate. I realize your posting is 10 years old but I'd love to get an update on how you fared.
