Finding out who my husband's ancestries are

Hi I'm married to a Higham from the US. My husb is the 5th generation here the story goes 3 brothers came to New Orleans escaping the life of ristorcats.(forgive the sp to lazy to look up)one stayed in the southern Ind area Thomas, he left his wife & baby here & went back to England to get more $$, as they were only allowed to bring so much at a time. Returning his wife & baby daughter had died from the flu. He remarried Anna they had one son Albert, (my husb grandfather), Albert had 3 sons Carroll, Ralph (his father), Raymond. They were supposed to have a home in Summerset, UK and we do know his grandfather recieved $$ from England until WWII. they had a cornation cloth from when Queen Victoria was crowned. It was an invitation the way I understand it that was woven into the cloth & only went to family members in this manner. I can get dates from the graveyard later this spring (sometime in May) as we are in Florida for the winter. Is this ringing a bell for anyone? The names Thomas, James, and Andrew are ring bells to me but am not for sure.
I'm also related to Mary Higham b. 1771 (4G Grandmother I think). Richard and Ellen's daughter Mary married my GG Grandfather Henry Nuttall from Westhaughton. Most of the Nuttalls were coal miners. My grandfather another Henry Nuttall was a grocer's boy and went on to work for the Co-op.
My father's mother was a Ratcliffe and they were also a mining family.

Sir Charles was the originator of the famous "Your Country Needs You" recruiting poster of WW1. My mother (nee Higham) thought that he was a cousin, tho' I think his father was also Charles, and I haven't located an uncle Charles among her relations. However, Sir C's daughter, Annabella, bears a striking resemblance to my sister (going by a news photo'). As we're not certain of the relationship, I don't think we'd better claim the photograph you mention.

I am searching for John Higham, son of Thomas Higham who emigrated to Allegheny in 1902 with his family. Thomas's father was Henry Higham, my grandad's brother, and I'm determined to try to find as many ancestors as I can. I was born the same year that Thomas's son John got married, 1937. He married a lady called Virginia Mae Bartley, and John was living at Alabama Avenue, Dormont at the time of his wedding. This is very important to me as I never got a chance to know any of them. Please help me if you can. My email address is judith.mckay@btinternet.com Plaease don't forget the dot after judith.

I am putting out a request for a Ruth Higham. She emigrated with her family to Allegheny Pittsburg Pennsylvania. The date they left England was 1902, and they lived in ward 11 Alleghenny. She was a twin, but her twin doesn't seem to be with the family when they arrived in America. Her name was Annie, but she could have been married as I think Elizabeth was her older sister, because she wasn't with the family either. My namer is Judith Mc Kay, and this family are my ancestors. The head of the household Ruth's fathert Henry HighaM, was my grandad's brother. Please get in touch with me if you can help me find Ruth and her siblings.
Hi friends, I wrote in a plea yesterday for help in finding my ancestor's descendants in Tampa Florida. Robert's father was called Thomas, and his father Henry was my grandad's brother. Robert's grandparents Henry and Phoebe emigrated to Alleghenny in 1902 with their eight children, Robert's father being one of them, Thoms. They all left for England when my mum was only four, and she never got to know them, and I am determined to find one of the family. I live in Haydock St Helens Lancashire where Henry was Born. I would dearly love to hear from someone who can help me find them. My email address is Judith.mckay@btinternet.com Please don't forget the dot after judith, and a great big thank you.

Hi Dranda, Thank you so much for replying to me. Janice and I would have been 20yrs old in 1956. My mum's name was Mabel, and Dad's James. It could so easily have been us on the photos. They get everywhere. My mother in Law got her photos out the first time I went to Alec's house, and he lived in Carnoustie Scotland, 320 miles from us. LOw and behold there on a photo with his brother Les was a classmate of mine from Haydock, so I am not surprised at anything now. I meant to ask you, have you researched the Higham's family in Haydock. I have got on quite well with them. I'm on my 4th great grandad now. Please keep in touch as we may have a link, cheers, Judy

Hello Judith,
This might seem strange but I am in Connecticut and I ran across 5 old photos at a flea market of twin girls named Judith and Janice. The girls would have been born around 1943 or so. The photos show the girls with Mom and Dab in Great Yarmouth around 1947 when they were still toddlers. Then the girls are around 13 at "the new estate." I don't know if this means anything to you or not since I don't have a last name.

Hi, This is the same James Higham (b Aspull, Wigan 1806 and married to Margaret Halliwell b 1806, Wigan). In the church records James' parents are John and Mary - but I have a strong suspicion that although the mother's name is written as Mary, there is a possibiity that it could be Marg. The entry was sloppy and the surname misspelt.
Margaret Halliwell is daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Halliwell (nee Bolton and daughter of James Andrew Bolton.
But would like to find brothers and sisters of Joseph Higham.
Two of his sons (james Andrew and Ignatius) emigrated to Austalia. They emigrated with a Joseph Benedict Higham (son of Joseph and Jane Higham)who I believe may be their cousin.

Hi Stephen, Judith Mc Kay here. So Glad you got in touch with me, and it is still not impossible for us to be distant relations. You have got everything right about my Higham family. Henry had a business in St Helens before he emigrated, and so did his dad Thomas. My grandad took over Thomases Buisness when he died. It was in Haydock where I have always lived. My mum was the youngest grandchild of Thomas and Elizabeth. Henry also had Twin girls Ruth and Annie like my mum did, me being one of them. Please keep in contact Stephen, it is great hearing from you, Judy

Judith,

My Highams were from Stockport area in Cheshire. Left there for Trenton, New Jersey in 1864. Found Henry and Phoebe Higham living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with five children in 1910 US Census. It appears Henry arrived at Philadelphia on 26 Nov 1902. New York passenger list suggests he returned from visit to England on 13 Mar 1922. Believe located Henry in Haydock in 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 UK census. Parents were Thomas & Elizabeth. 1851 census shows brother John, age 4 and 1871 census shows brother John, age 8. No John listed in 1861 census.

Hi again, Judith Here. Thanks so much for your reply. Up to now I havent come across the Highams which are your family, but I may do when going further. My grandad Highams brother emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1910 with his large family. His name was Henry Higham, and they had a business in St Helens before leaving. Also I was delighted to find that he had twin girls as my mum did. We wer Judith and Janice. I am living in hopes that you are a relation somehow. We ar not far from Westhoughton. Please keep in touch as you search. The Highams in Haydock were a prominent family. All business people. Yours truly Judith

Hello Judith,

I don't know if I'm a relative, but I am descended from Lancashire Highams who emigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania -- probably in the 1820s. My 3rd great-grandfather was Isaac Higham, b. 1804. He might have been born in Westhoughton, Lancashire because that is where Abel Higham was born in 1807. I believe Abel Higham was Isaac's brother. Abel's parents were Richard Higham, b. 1782 and Ellen, b. 1783. Richard and Ellen were Quakers and came with their children, Isaac?, Abel, Daniel, Rebecca, Eliza, and Anna to Philadelphia. Do your records include any of these people?
