HILBUN Nettie Gibson - 1911-2011

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Nettie G. Hilbun, 99, passed away Thursday morning at Park Vista Retirement Community.

She was born July 12, 1911, in Whitter, N.C., a daughter of Robert Edney and Frannie Blanton Gibson.

Nettie came to this area in 1998 from the Florida area. She was a Presbyterian and an avid golfer and bridge player.

Nettie was married to Ollie Hilbun in Knoxville, Tennessee, in June 1932 and he passed away in August of 1980.

She leaves a son, James (Linda) Hilbun of Cortland, Ohio; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie; a son, Charles Hilbun; four sisters; and five brothers.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Contributions may be given to Hospice of the Valley.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Szabo & Sons Funeral Home.

The Hilbun family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley and Park Vista staff for their care and support during Nettie’s last year.

Under closer examination of Hollis birth date and a better set of eyes it appears that Hollis's date of birth is 1848
in the Stephen Hilbun Bible.

I have the Stephen Hilbun Bible. Stephen was the father of
Holas(spelling in the birth record). Hollis(spelling in the marriage record) was born 3/17/1849 and married Martha Ann Dean on 3/31/1871. Hollis was the 14th of 20 children of Stephen. Hollis'mother was Sarah Ann Smith Stephen's second wife. Hollis and Martha's children are recorded as Stephen William Hilbun born 12/12/1872, John Lee Hilbun born 10/3/1874 and Martha Ann Victra Hilbun born 11/22/1877. I have just started working on my Hilbun line and would like any information on the Stephen Hilbun family. Robert Lee Hilbun was my great grandfather and the 20th child of this family.

Taken from the Line Creek Baptist Church 150th Anniversary:

Death has come into our ranks and laid its cold and icy hand on brother Hilburn, who was born March 17, 1848 in Canaco, Alabama. he was twice married (dates unknown). The writer has no date as to when or where he united with the Baptist Church.
No doubt in his young days. He had been a member of the Line Creek Baptist Church since 1927 until in the triumph of faith he fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on January 11, 1934. He leaves children, relatives and friends to mourn their loss. His body was laid to rest in the cemetery to await the resurrection morn.

Hollis "Holas" Adrean Hilbun and Martha Ann Dean are my husbands 2nd GGrandfather and GGrandmother. His line decends from their dughter "Sena Matilda Hilbun" I have lots of info on this family and would be glad to share with you. Which child of their's is your line from?

I am searching for info on James Bruce, Burke County, GA, who received a land grant in 1795. Frederick Hilbun/Hilburn married Nancy Bruce, possibly daughter of James Bruce.

Shelia, I have Caroline daughter of Jeheu on the 1850 census in Escambia County Fl. listed as 20 years old that would have made her birth date in 1830. Could your Caroline be the aunt to my Caroline? Email me direct if you would like to.

Bob, do you have some dates for all these Hilbun/Hilburns? My Caroline Louise Hilburn was born Dec 16, 1817. I have no further knowledge of her family except for marriage and children. I am fortunate to have her Bible in which my ggrandmother recorded births and deaths of children. I previously listed her year of birth as 1819, but on close inspection decided that it is 1817.

I am looking for information on the family of Jeheu Hilbun. I know he had 11 children Eliza, Caroline, Augusta, Vaughn, John W., Jeheu, Benjamin, Mary, William,Nancy, Frances. Eliza was my ggrandmother. Any information would be helpful.

My grandfather was Everett Watson Hilbun, 2nd son of Steven III by his 1st wife, Clara Miller. AFter her death, he married her sister, Mamie, then later married Lavenia (?)Wallie. Which branch does your husband come from? Where do you live. I live in LA.
