Rosie, my family is connected to the Hilderbrands and trying to find more info if they came over on "The Trail of Tears." Peter was married to Annie Falling who was the first cousin to my gggrandfather, Bear Timpson. Bear's sister says in her application they came over in 1838. An orphaned child raised by Bear's half sister, Betsy says she talked about coming over on the "Tail of Tears". So was wondering how you obtained this info. Also, that's so cool that you still have Peter's bed. The spinning wheel brought over to Okla. made by Betsy is in the Eastern Trail Museum in Vinita, Okla. Thanks, Debbie

Hello Rich, I see you are related to the Hilderbrands and at one time I was in contact with Jim whom you are responding to. I have lost contact with him some years back and maybe if he reads this he will reply. I was helping him research with this line. With these Hilderbrands being close to my family relations I always thought we were somehow related. I knew the Fallings were but I finally made the connection through Lucy Miller's application. My gggrandfather was Bear Timpson which the Chapel & Cemetery is named after. With limited documentation it looks as though his name was Bear Smith and was given the Timpson name during the Civil War being in line with his first cousins named Timpson. Bear's mother was named En-cie. En-cie had a sister named Luci. Luci married Benjamin Falling and had two children named John B. and Annie Falling. Annie married Peter Hilderbrand (son of George) and I show they had the following children: Alexander, Lucy, Ben and Susan. I'm a little confused so my question is are you saying George's father was named John and George died in Indian Terr? I know Peter did. And how does Stephen fit it? Is he the brother to Peter? I'm still working on the Hilderbrands and documenting info as I come across it. I would love any info you have on Peter's family. And I'm willing to give anything I have as I do have the "Timpson Chapel Cemetery book" which lists some Hilderbrands. Thanks, Debbie

Hi Shirley,
My great grandfather James Franklin is son of Dennis & Lucy Hilderbrand. A couple things about your original email caught my attention
1)You state that you have heard that William had done bad things at a dance stomp on the cherokee strip.
2)The name of your grandfather's name is James Franklin

I have some documents from the Department of Interior (1903) about my Cherokee Hilderbrand relatives. In them, it specifically states that the father of James Franklin (Dennis Hilderbrand) died during the strip payment.

Because your email referenced the Cherokee stip, and my records do as well, I'd hoped for some sort of lineage connection. It appears our family names dont match up however. The names referenced in my family records are John William, John, Frank (James Franklin), Dennis, and Lucy Hilderbrand. (Review attached). If any of my records indicate we have some sort of family connection please dont hesitate to contact me again. Or if you think that any or your records would be helpful to my search, please let me know.

Thank you for your email,
Jessica Hilderbrand

Hi Jessica, is your James Franklin Hill (Hilderbrand) the son of William Jasper Hilderbrand (Hill)? Sons of my grandfather James Hill were Carl, Doyle (my dad) and J.B. I do not know when William Jasper changed the last name Hilderbrand to Hill, my grandfather James was born with last name of Hill. Maybe your James was related to my William some how, would be nice.
Thank you,
Shirley Cox (Hill)

If this is the same person you reference in your message, your father and my grandpa Dewey may have been brothers.
My grandpa Dewey was Cherokee Indian and is enrolled with tribal citizenship. I would love to email with you back and forth if we indeed do have a lineage connection.
~Jessica Hilderbrand

Hi Bob, thanks for responding, I know nothing about my great-grandfather, parents, siblings. I am only guessing born in the 1840's. My aunt, who would be a grand-daughter to William said they never talked about him other than he was in Oklahoma, did a bad thing, then moved to Arkansas and changed the last name from Hilderbrand to Hill. That he married Mary Jane Melton, suppose to be full blodded indian, another subject that was not talked about. Any help from your cousin would be great, I am hitting alot of brick walls.
My sister Pat Torrance wrote the History of our branch of the Hilderbrand family which contains some of the information that may help you. I will copy what I can for you, but if you will E-mail an address I can send you most of the older history. My E-mail address is a651mischief@ yahoo.com. We have been doing genealogy since the late 50s and are very careful about documentation.

I have an Amanda Hilderbrand b. 1849 in my family with father Jacob Y. Hilderbrand abt. 1815 (probably S.C.). Jacob is the son of William abt 1785 (S.C.).

I have that Jacob had 2 wives, #1, Mary Huey and #2, Mary Esslinger. My records show Jacob had 9 children, including Amanda.

Supposedly, the 1850 census has Jacob (age 35), Mary (22), Mary (13), and Amanda (1) living in Dekalb county Georgia but I have been unable to find this record searching Ancestry.com. If this is the case, I think we can assume that Amanda is the daughter of Mary Esslinger and that Mary, age 13, is the daughter of the first wife, Mary Huey.

I have more Hilderbrand information but nothing more on Amanda. If you find the 1850 census record of this family, please let me know.
Tina

Hi Karen, I am researching the Grier/Greer family. Dessie Pearl Cross mother Laura Elvis Grier is my great-great
grandmother's sister. So it looks like we are related down
the line. I was wondering if you knew when Dessie Pearl
Cross died, and where she is buried? I found a website
for Coal county in Oklahoma that has a listing of who all
had gotten married in that county. It showed that Dessie Pearl Cross married J.W. Helterbrand. I would love to talk
to you, I hope you will e-mail me. Thanks. Donna Robbins
