Sandra, I remember you and of course Gladys
Hess. Her store was at the end of W3rd St. Just down from where my husband was raised. In fact you and Gladys came to the funeral home when my Mother, Dorothy
Payne, passed away ('92) I have a picture of you, my brother Charles and my self in our backyard. I think it was when
Uncle Hubert Aunt Gladys
Hillier from Lake Milton came to visit. When their parents passed relatives took my mother in and my uncle was placed in an orphanage. My mother was raised by Daisy Charles Leonard. They lived on 13th street in Elyria. I have a picture of
Jake Hillier, but I never knew his relationship to the family (or understood). Russell
Hillier also lived there with his wife Julia. She passed away when I was real little, I vaguely remember her. Then Russell married Mary (don't know her maiden name.) I remember my dad I going to Gladys
Hess home and seeing a "aunt" Pearl, again I was little. I don't know what her relationship was either. My parents were "funny" about family; what a shame because I feel we had relatives and never knew them. I seldom ever saw my
Uncle Hubert and his family. I remember when Russell
Hillier married Mary it was a "tsk" "tsk" type of thing. Russell never worked and word was he lived off his wives. Gladys could or perhaps did tell you more. I married and left
Ohio in '63. My husband was military and thus we traveled around and have finally settled in
California. I took pictures of headstones from the cemetary where Charles Daisy, Russell and Julia are buried. I'll look for them and copy and send to you if you like. My husband I can't remember the name of the cemetary right now. If I talk with one of my brothers and get the name I'll let you know. I've thought I would like to get into family history, but simply haven't had the time or made the time to do so. It looks like alot of people are looking into the family name. Let me know what you learn. Good to hear from you.
