Hi Jamie

Thank you for your reply to my message - my message was sent 7 years ago - I had forgotten all about it!

I've traced about 19 long lost cousins now as a result of that first early message posted in 2002!

If you subscribe to Ancestry.com and pay for it you will see lots of family photos that two of my long lost found 2nd cousins have compiled. It's fascinating to see what our ancestors used to look like!

There are lots of Harvey, Timothy, Thomas, James Hilliers about, so its best to start with Date of birth and birthplace which eliminates a lot of the Hilliers from our direct family tree of ancestors.

My great grandfather was Harvey Hillier born 1872 in Battersea, South London - died 1931 - was married to Annie Hettie Smith.

There's lot more information but it turned out to be a very long and huge family tree!

This information should be the start for you and if you need to know anymore, please give me dob and birthplace of your Harvey Hillier - it's possible that we may be related but until we both have the same dates and it tallies then it could lead to discovering more long lost rellies!

Janice Trim (nee Hillier - great granddaughter of Harvey Hillier b1872.

Hi Clyde,
In the last month, another Hillier from the Trinity Bay branch took the DNA test. The result was that there is no relationship between the Lamaline and Trinity branches for thousands of years. If you would consider testing, we could determine if you are part of either branch, or a completely new branch.

Eric

HILLIERS

Hi Eric

There are a lot of Hilliers in Dorset. My roots come from the Bridport area. The spelling of Hillier seems to have changed over the years so Hellier Hayler are also common. Do you have any more information about John so that I can check with my tree? Wife, brothers & children? My brother (1946) is also a John Hillier and he now lives in Eastbourne in Sussex. One of my ancestors with Dorset roots moved to Canada in 1920. He went on the Metagamba from Liverpool to Quebec and then on to see a Charles Branston in Toronto. That's where I have lost him.

Any idea when your John moved to Canada? Was he born in England?

I have some more work to do on the Parish Registers but there is no record of him so far. If he was born in Canada then we would have to know his parents names to stand any chance of establishing a link.

Regards

Alan Hillier

Hi,
My earlliest ancestor was John Hillier 1783-1863 who died at Lamaline Newfoundland Canada.
Presumably he was from southern England. In an effort to find his origin, I have taken a DNA test and found my family to be haplogroup "G". Here is a data link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup_G_(Y-DNA)

Hopefully, some other Hillier member will get tested and we can see who is closely related.

Eric Hillier

Allan,

I do not have a lot of information but I DO find these names in my index as well. I have Samuel Hillier b:1864 married to Martha b:1866, New Harbour, TB, NL. With daughter Susannah Hillier b: Dec 1889 NH, TB, NL. D: Jan 6, 1927 in NH. Married to a William Joseph Hefford (son of James and Catherine Reid) Born: Nov 6 1974, NH, NL and died April 21 1924 in NH. I also have two of their children noted, Elizabeth and Clarence and some information on them as well as descendants. And have information on William Joseph Heffords ancestors back to the late 1700's, early 1800's.

If I could be of any help or if you have any information that I could add to my file it would be much appreciated.

Most of my research is the Hillier line, and my family comes from New Harbour, Botwood etc.

Hi Tom,

You're right - this is interesting. However, my information is this: I'm looking for a "Donald" (I think) Hillier/Hilliard who was born around 1896 & was either a pharmacist &/or lived above a pharmacy on Ossington Ave. He would have had 2 sons & a daughter I believe named Leanore. He would have had a wife who had been sick while the children were young and possibly she died. Does any of this match your family history? If your great-grandmother Helen May lived at 71 Howard Park, did she happen to live with other family members? I have done a quick search & believe I have found John & Helen May, but they had no sons named Donald, just George (& another named Robert who died when he was 10). Our info is very sketchy as it was revealed to us by my grandmother when she was 95 & we're not sure how much she remembered was actually true. Please keep in touch!

Hi Laurie,
This could be interesting. My great grandmother, Helen May Hilliard lived in the apartment over top of the pharmacy at 71 Howard Park Drive (on Roncesvalles) for many years from probaly about 1934 or so when her husband John Hilliard died to 1948 when she passed away at the same address. The building and pharmacy are still there believe it or not.My mother used to go there for Sunday visits as a child. I'll be speaking to my mom today and I will try and jog her memory.
Talk to you soon, Tom.
