Hi, my GG grandmother was Ann Meakin nee Hind, she with her husband Henry Meakin, son Henry William(3yrs) arrived in Geelong Victoria with her brothers. I can find records of John and Edward(who I believe did not migrate until 1853)so I have assumed that the 2nd brother is Joseph. The family were born in the Derby area.
The Meakin's and Hind brothers set up a sawmill in Geelong then went to the gold fields in Bunninyong, near Ballaarat(now spelt Ballarat)
I have been unable to find any marriage or death for Joseph Hind. I have found 2 other Joseph Hinds but not the right parents. Ann and her brothers parents are Joseph Hind and Sarah Stone. I hope this is of help to you.
Regards Judy

Re: William Hind from westmeath , Ireland

I believe that I, too, am descended from William Hind, although the investigation I have done has yielded somewhat different results from what you have posted (e.g., other children, living in Augusta County, Virginia, etc.). One thing I'm wondering about William is the possibility that he was from County Westmeath. We know is that he was a member of the Scots-Irish Presbyterian community in Virginia, and the very name "William" would pretty-much indicate Protestant parentage. If he was, in fact, Protestant, does it seem strange that he would have hailed from County Westmeath, which is well south of Ulster (and the "plantation") and was overwhelmingly Roman Catholic? Might he actually have been from Ulster? Might he have been born Roman Catholic and converted to Protestantism? Any thoughts?

Hi Sue,
I'm also chasing the Hind family and am also stuck in St Mary's Parish.

My Great Grandfather, Harold Albert was born 1892 in Fulham.

His Father, Albert, was born 1870 in Sneinton - married in Fulham to a lass from Sussex.

His father, Samuel, was born 1848 in St Mary's, married Maria Dawson (Samuel caused me all sorts of bother - there's another Samuel Hind born same year, also with wife named Maria, kicking around in Notts).

His Father, Thomas, was born 1824 in St Mary's, married Elizabeth Lumbardi.

If the IGI (Latter Day Saints) is right, Thomas' father was Jeremiah, his mother Hannah Lamb (remarried after Jeremiah's death and became Hannah Slack), but that's as far as I've got.

The only other thing is that my grandfather had a vague memory of being taken to a pub in Nottingham called the Cricketers which he thought someone in the family ran. this would have been late 1920's early 1930's.

Any bells?

Gary,

I think this is Joseph Hind, baptised Whitwell, Derbyshire June 21st 1828, parents Richard and Ann.

He is in London (Holborn) in 1871 with brother William (baptised Killamarsh Derbyshire Nov 28th 1832)

I cannot find convincing records earlier than this as there is another Joseph baptised Whitwell Feb 24th 1825, mother Mary of Firbeck and I think it is this one that I find in Barlborough in 1841, married to Sarah in Ecclesall Bierlow in 1851 with a son and brother John, and lodging with brother John in 1861 at Granville Street Sheffield.

The brother is probably John Hind baptised Firbeck Whitwell December 25th 1828 with mother shown as Mary. The submitted IGI record that shows him marrying Maria Lowe has got the wrong person, as that John Hind had parents John Hind (Miller at Belph) and mother Elizabeth who are my Gt Gt Grandparents.

I have more information on the Hinds and would welcome the chance to exchange notes.

Mike Clifford

My name is Riley Albert Hinds, son of Albert C. Hinds. I can trace my lineage back to William Hind, but no further. William's son was William II, his son James Hind, his son Samuel, his son John, his son Alexander, his son Samuel Sandy (he added 's' to Hind), his son Clarence, his son Albert Winfield, his son Tilton, and my dad and I. We may have a connection. I hope this info is helpful to any. And I hope to find out who William's father was. William came from Westmeath, Ireland.

I am Riley Hinds the son of Albert Hinds whose email is alhinds54@yahoo.com John Hind was married to Sally Bass and they had 10 children. A.P. Hind or Alexander Hind is my great great great great grandfather. He was born in 1821 in Barron Co Kentucky and next moved to Menard Illinois. Alexander had a brother who was James Willis Hind. James died in 1873 Menard IL. His father is John who is the son of Samuel Hind and Margret "Peggy" Arnold. Samuel is the son of James Hind and Marriamiar Dejarnett. Now here is where we differ. We show James parents as Thomas Hines and Elizabeth with oldest son William. Also, James is shown to be from Scottland. If you are sure about WilliamII and William then we are open to it as we are at a deadend with Thomas. Are you positive about William II being the son of and William? And William from Ireland who immagrated to America in the early 1700's from Ireland?

Hi Darcie

My maiden name was Hind and I am from England. My Hind family were mostly born in Nottinghamshire and I have only been able to trace them back to John Hind b. Oxton, Notts in 1715, he was married to Alice Alvey 8/17/1740. Don't know if there is any connect.

Kate

Hi Jeff

I think I conta ted you once before but noticed that you were looking for a Mary Hind. We have a Mary Hind born to Thomas Hind and Jane Lawson on Apr 5 1863 I have not marriage for her but i do have information on some of her brothers and sister. You mention that she has 4 children is it possible that Mary Hind is her married name? We also have a John Henry Hind who was born in 1848 to John Hind and Mary Haigh. Most of that branch of the family was in Stockton on Tees and Ormesby. I haven't been able to get the Hind family any further back than the marriage of William Hind an Elizabeth Chapman in 1726. Let me know what you have found. Regards Marilyn

Robert Stanley Hind was born c.1915 in London. He had at least three brothers and possibly two sisters--Herbert George, Ken, Jack, Winifred and 'Lettice'. His father was William Francis and is likely his wife's maiden name was 'New'. Any information from others with these names in their family tree would greatly appreciated.

hello..

I keep coming up against dead ends searching for my family history. My great grandmother was Isabella Giles, I don't know her birthdate, but I know she married Edward Giles Fryer in Tynemouth or thereabouts in 1893. They had four sons, one of which was my grandfather, Edward Giles Fryer in 1897. I have a vague memory that my grandfather was the only son that ever married, therefore, the only living issue would be my aunts, uncles and cousins... I am just hoping that Isabella might fit into your family tree somewhere :)

~ jo

I'm looking for decendants of James Hind born abt 1878 in Durham England,(he was a coal miner)and Isabella Dunn(abt 1877)they married in 1898 Easington, Co Durham, England. I know they had a daughter Rachel Hind born 1900 in Murton, Co Durham, England.
My connection to the Hind's is through Isabella (Isabelle), we have no idea what happened to her after 1901, but I would dearly love to find out.
The only thing I've managed to find is a ships record that shows it might be possible she emigrated in the 1920's with 4 children, this could be a faulse trail but worth following I think.
I hope someone out there can help.
Thanks G

Hind of Middlesbrough

I've been quite successful at tracking back my ancestry on my father's side but my mother's side-the Hinds-has proved more dificult.

Through the 1901 Census I've maaged to get back to a Mary Hind born approx. 1863. By 1901 she was 38, a widow, and had four children George W (aged 17), John Henry (my grandfather) (11), Thomas H (7) and Mary Jane (5).

However I can't find any record of Mary Hind's birth or other pre-1901 Census records of her. Another mystery is that my mother (born in 1927) says she only knew about John Henry and George W, not the other two.

Can anyone give anymore details on Mary and her family?
