Re: Hippers of Norwich and Norfolk

Hello
Sorry, I don't have much new information to add to my original post about the Hippers. They are on my Ancestry family tree 'Bishop and Manning'. I believe Charles Hipper was the son of Robert and Ann Hipper, in the publican trade. Margaret was the mother of Maud Mary and Arden Hipper. I haven't found a marriage record for Charles Hipper and Margaret Kedge yet though. As far as I can find out, I believe Charles Hipper died 28 August 1874 age 53, and Margaret registered the birth of Arden's older sister Maud Mary Hipper 1 Jan 1875, after his death. As Arden was born in 1878 (3 January), I don't know who his father was- need to get a oopy of his birth certificate.

Margaret Kedge later re-married an Edmund Clarke in 1883 and had 3 more daughters Violet(1888), Ivy(1891) and Grace (1895). She died in Sprowston in 1920. Someone on the Clarke side told me that her son Arden died 17 Aug 1946 at Beeston Regis Norfolk and is buried against the Church yard wall where he used to sit and paint pictures. (You probably already know this).

The Kedge and Daniels family (Mulbarton) go back to Wymondham about 1678.

Hippers of Norwich and Norfolk

Looking for information on Charles Hipper from Norwich or Norfolk, y.o.b. not known. He married Margaret (nee Kedge, b. 1849)- this may have been a second marriage for him. They had two surviving children- Maud Mary Hipper (b. 1 Jan 1875) and Aaron/Arden/Andrew Hipper (1878), both born in Norwich. Maud Mary's birth certificate states Charles' occupation as 'cellarman', and the birth was registered by Margaret Hipper of Gilbert's Yard, Pitt Street, Norwich. By the 1881 census, Margaret was widowed while still quite young,(she later re-married an Edmund Clarke (1826), a neighbour and also a widower). However, I have no other information to confirm the identity of Charles Hipper or who he was. He was married to Margaret for a relatively short time in the 1870s.

There is a Charles Hipper b. abt 1821/6, who was the son of a Robert Hipper (1791) and Ann Holmes- he was a publican at the Maids Head, Catton. My Charles was listed as a cellarman on the certificate, so there is a possible link there (father/son may be in the same trade). Margaret was widowed by the 1881 census– possibly reflecting the fact that he could have been quite a bit older than her. Her second husband was also over 20 years her senior. Any information on Charles Hipper or the Hipper family in Norwich gratefully received.
