HIte from Odessa and the NYC

I am looking for the descendants of Joseph PERCHIK and Blume HITE. They had two daughters and a son. Their daughter Hannah married the Ziese (Sussman or Sigmund)HITE son of Harry Hite and Sylvia Glenscoe. They had one child Sophie, who married Jack PROBSTEIN. They had two daughters Barbara and Enid. Barbara had at least one son Steven Sanford GOLD (her husband was Alfred E. GOLD). They may have had a second son Mitchell K Gold. I am looking to get in touch with either of these sons or any living descendants of Enid Helene PROBSTEIN and Solomon "Sandy" STERN. We are related through my great-great grandfather Joseph PERCHIK and Blume HITE. The oldest generation (Joseph PERCHIK and Bluma HITE) lived in Odessa, Russia (now Ukraine). However the marriage of Hannah and "Sigmund" took place in 1895 in Manhattan.
Later the family lived in the Bronx. The second daughter's Jewish name was Breindl or Brandel and she and her husband probably lived in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, and had eight or ten children. Unfortunately, I do not know her husband's name. One of the children may have been Ida FISHMAN, since I have a mysterious address from my grandfather's address book for her with the label "cousin".

Re: Jost Hite relations in Ohio and Indiana

I looked into this family a number of years ago - can't place my notes on them right now. But Henry Hite's parents, John and Margaret, were born in Germany. Margaret was born about 1818, John probably around the same time. So they were not descendants of Jost Hite, who came to this country in 1710.

If anyone knows about any relations of Joist (Jost) Hite who lived in the Youngstown, Ohio and or Pennsylvania and then moved on to Indiana, please contact me. Particularly look for relations to Abraham (I believe that is the name) Hite, father of Henry Hite and his wife, Lillie Belle Wilson, who were married in Adams County, Indiana, probably in the city of Decatur, on January 13th 1881. My father and his father were both born in Decatur, Indiana. Thank you for any information you may have. Cindy Carter Hite. "The Carters of Cool Water Plantation" is my tree.

where can I find the "official" document which indicates DNA evidence proves there is no connection between the Andrew Andreas Hite family and Jost Hite family? I'm not doubting your info as I've recently come to the same conclusion ( unless there is a distant relationship which I can't find) but I'd like to have some research documenting my conclusion particularly since so many trees in ancestry show andreas as a son of Jost Hite.

John Hite who married Catherine Decker has three known male relatives (probably his brothers). Daniel Hite, who died in 1828 in present-day page County, VA, Abraham Hite (1750-1828) who had lived in that part of Virginia and died in Fairfield County, Ohio, and Andrew Hite (1758-1819) who also went from Virginia to Fairfield County. The relationship was proven by DNA testing. For more, check out www.familytreeDNA.com and under projects, look up the Hite-Hoyt project. As you will see, these men were not related to Jost Hite. DNA has proven that because their DNA readings are much different than those of Jost Hite's family. Their father has not been positively identified but it is known that they were from Pennsylvania. Their father may be the 1737 immigrant Andreas Heyd, but that is not proven.

Sure. My gr gr grandfather is Jacob Winton Hite, 1847-1880. He married Sarah Whitlock. Jacob's father is Jonathan Jackson Hite, 1822-1892. Jonathan's parents are Jacob Hite, 1790-1854, m. Barbary Jackson, 1798-1881. Jacob's parents are John Hite, 1765-1830, m. Catherine Decker, 1769-. I want to know who John's ancestry as this is where I get confused. I thought it was Abraham, son of Jose Hite but I can't get the pieces together. Winton and Sarah lived in Sullivan County, TN. William Hite, Winton's uncle, stayed with the young family when Winton died as they had about 5 kids and Wm was a widower. Anyway, that's where I'm stuck.
Thanks for your help.

My ancestor I am looking for is Francis Frank Hite b:1851 OH. I found a Abraham Hite b:1825 OH with wife (Margaret b:1826 IN 2nd wife??) son Francis b:1851 OH and a Elizabeth Bell. There is a Moses Hight d:Jan. 28, 1903 Trenton, Delaware Co., OH.which feels right to me. And a Isaac Hight d:April 9, 1901 New Salem, Fairfield Co. OH, which is the next county. I have Francis father Abraham Hite dying around 1883 in Cumberland Co. IL. I looked some more and found another child that may belong to Abraham/Elizabeth by the name David. Abraham Hite SR got land from a military survey in May 1828 of 80 acres. Moses has land between Caldwell and McNeely in Trenton Twp. Delaware Co. OH. Is anyone related/searching this family in their family line???

Iowa Hites

Hi, I am looking for info on John W or John M Hite (1819-1898) I have been unable to locate info on his parents or other siblings. I know he was born in Virgina and died in Henry Co. Iowa. From doing some research/tree building starting with Jost Hite and working down, I think John is Samuel Hite's (1784-1877)(Jost's great grandson) son but can't find him on any records. My main reason for thinking so is the fact that Samuel died in Mt Pleasant Iowa in Henry Co. not 10 miles away from where John is buried. Any help would be appreciated
Re: Mary Anne LEWIS HITE, Samuel & John HITE.RAWLINGS:LA/IND

My ancestor is Sarah HITE who married Levi Price in 1840, Monroe County, Indiana. Her census information (1850 and 1860) indicates she was born circa 1823-1826 in Tennessee. Since your Mary Anne Hite and William Hite (born 1815 & married Diana Woodall) appear in the same marriage records and census records state they were also born in Tennessee, I am wondering if there is a connection. I saw your post on Ancestry and noted that Mary Anne Hite and Benjamin Rawlings Hite both born in 1811, but not the same day. Thus they could not both be children of Samuel and Ann Rawlings Hite. Samuel had brothers Jacob, William, John, Isaac and Abraham. Do you know if any of these were in Tennessee and maybe Indiana?
I did note that William HITE went to Crawford County, Illinois. Levi's father and brother (Shadrach Price and Shadrach Price Jr) also are found in Crawford County, Illinois. Levi and Sarah Price were in Owen County, Indiana 1850 and McGhee County, Kansas 1860. Sarah Hite Price probably died between 1862 (birth of son John) and 1865 Kansas State Census. Levi and children appear in 1865 but no Sarah.

If you have knowledge of anything that might help solve the question regarding parents of any of the above, it would be appreciated.

HITE Virgil Burton 1929-2010 Ohio

BRUSH RIDGE: Virgil Burton Hite, age 81, of the Brush Ridge area, died Wednesday evening, December 8, 2010, at Marion Manor after battling Parkinson Disease for many years.

On March 17, 1929, Virgil was born to the late Elder Daily and Lilibel (Cole) Hite in northern Delaware County, Ohio. Virgil's mother died when he was a baby and Daily's second wife, the late Cora Beaver Hite raised him as her own.

Raised on the family farm, Virgil attended Grand Prairie grade school, and graduated from Morral High School in the Class of 1947. He then entered The Ohio State University at Columbus in the fall, majoring in Animal Science, obtaining his bachelor's degree in December of 1951.

Shortly after graduation, Virgil enlisted in the U.S. Army in February of 1952. His service was state-side serving in the Corps of Army Engineers during the Korean Conflict, and he earned the rank of Corporal.

Upon his honorable discharge in February of 1954, he returned home to marry the former Marjorie Smith of Canal Winchester, Ohio, on June 27, 1954, whom he met in the 4-H club at OSU. They raised two children, Gary and Karen, and shared over fifty-six years together.

Being the only son in the family, Virgil learned to enjoy farming at an early age while helping as a farm hand for his father, Daily. Upon graduating from college, he bought land a few miles from the home place to farm full time with his father. Though farming was his life work, in 1956 he began part-time work as a technician for Marion Soil and Water until his retirement in 2003. This farmer never really retired as he continued to help his son, Gary, with planting and harvest. He was especially proud his family has chosen to follow in his and his father's footsteps, continuing to care for the family farm.

Dedicated to his community, Virgil served on the Ridgedale School Board for 8 years, was a 4-H advisor for 25 years, was a member of the Marion County, Ohio Farm Bureau helping on their membership and various committees, and was a very active member of the Marion County Ag. Society Fair Board for 30 years.

Church was an important part of his life, being an active member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Marion, Ohio where he served on council, committees, the Board of Trustees, and he had served as church president and deacon.

Virgil will be missed by his wife, Marjorie Hite of Marion, Ohio; two children, Gary (Terri Thiel) Hite of rural northern Marion County, and Karen Anderson of Newark, Delaware; six grandchildren, David (Emily) Hite of New Albany, Ohio, Crystal (Christopher) Burgess of Delaware, OH, Tim Hite of Marion, Shawna Hite of Marion, Joshua Hite of Marion and Christopher Anderson of Newark, DE; six great-grandchildren, Rieley, Taylor, Addyson, Rorynn and Blayke Burgess, and Alyssa Hite; four sisters, Nina (Mike) Lucas of Marion, Elaine (Tom) Lewis of Edwardsville, IL, Florence (Edward) Reed of Winchester, KY, and Carolyn (Merle) Sarber of Bremen, IN; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Hite family will greet friends from 3 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 241 S. Prospect St., Marion, in the lower level parlor. Services honoring Virgil's life will also be held in the church on Thursday at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Mark Schuring officiating.
His family will again greet friends for an hour prior to his services at the church.
Burial will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery.

The Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to have been chosen to serve Virgil's family.

The family requests, that although flowers are beautiful and Virgil loved them, that memorial contributions be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church, c/o either the Building Improvement Fund or the Good Samaritan Fund, and to The Parkinson's Disease Foundation. They may be sent to the care of the funeral home.

His family would like to extend a "heartfelt" thank you for the many individuals who offered prayers, cards, concern and support during the 2 months of acute illness Virgil suffered.

For those wishing to express their condolences to Virgil's family online, you may do so by visiting: www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.

Published in the The Marion Star from December 12 to December 14, 2010

We are a Hite family from the Pittsburgh area. We operated the Hite's Drug Stores in the area. My father was Robert Hite, a pharmacist and store owner, and passed away in 1985 at the age of 50. His uncle, Wallace Hite, was also involved in the drug stores. We also were associated with Hite's Chicken Farm, Pennsylvania Avenue, which I believe went under as the result of a fire in the 1930s. Not sure if this fits with your query.

Thanks!

Re: Hite's of Pittsburgh

My family is a Hite family from Pittsburgh. We were involved with the Hite's Drug Stores in the area. My father Robert Hite was a pharmacist and owned several of the stores in the Pittsburgh area at different times. He passed away in 1985 at the age of 50. His uncle, Wallace Hite, was also involved in the business.

According to an old reference book in my high school library (some years ago, my 9th grade english teacher had us research names and genealogy), Hite is Middle English, meaning "at the height, or top, of the hill."

Nelly Conway Hite Baldwin Portrait

I’ve been doing some work on my Baldwin and Hite ancestors and ran across an item of interest that I wanted to make folks aware of, if theyweren’t already. Hoping for some clues or some help.

If you have ever been to Belle Grove in Frederick County, Virginia, you have probably seen the portraits of Major Isaac Hite, Nelly (Madison) Hite, James Madison Sr. and Nelly (Conway) Madison. What I recently found out was that these four portraits by Charles Peale Polk were actually a set of six – all painted at the same time. The fifth was a portrait of Frances (Madison) Rose and the sixth was of Nelly Conway Madison at age 10! She married Dr. Cornelius E. Baldwin and was the mother of James Madison Baldwin, my great great grandfather.

All six of these portraits were in the estate listing of Major Hite at his death in 1836. These six portraits went to his son Madison Hite, except the picture of Nelly Hite that went to her son Dr. Isaac Hite Baldwin. Dr. I. H. Baldwin was James Madison Baldwin’s older brother. The two of them lived quite close to each other for their entire adult lives.

The whereabouts of this sixth portrait are now unknown. I have not read Dr. Isaac Hite Baldwin’s will yet or seen the inventory of his estate, but I have of copy of his widow’s will and the portrait was not in her estate inventory. Dr. Baldwin had no children of his own and his widow left everything to her nephew Harrison B. Keckley, the son of her brother, with the exception of $300 each to go to Mary B. Roe’s two children, Amos and Clara. Mary Briscoe (Baldwin) Roe was the sister of Isaac Hite Baldwin (the Younger - nephew of the Dr. by the same name)- he was my great grandfather. Isaac the Younger and his other sister Ann Eleanor (Baldwin) Roe (yep … the two sisters married brothers…) received nothing.

I am in contact with some Roe descendants as well as other Baldwin descendants, trying to find out if anyone knows anything about this portrait. My hope is that it is hanging in a family room somewhere and not disintegrating in some attic. As an original Charles Peale Polk portrait it is quite valuable, but I mostly want a glimpse of what my great great great grandmother looked like in her youth.

Thanks
