Hi. We are related. Ellen Hoban and Dominic Byrne were my great, great grandparents. Their daughter, Ann Agnes Byrne immigrated to Pennsylvania in the 1880s. Let me pull my info and see what I have on the Hobans. It may not be a lot.
gordymac1@aol.com

I have just begun research on my family. Unfortunately I have very little to go on. My father is James Rathband of John's Row, Westport. Siblings are Frank, Joe, Jeannette. Mother is Margaret Hoban Rathband b. 1907. Father is Joseph Rathband, b. 1906. Margaret Hoban's parents were Austin and Sarah Hoban. I may be wrong with the Sarah part, it might be Jane? I am also looking for information on Austin Brennan and Norah Cameron. If anyone has any information on them I would be very grateful. Thanks! Kate

Hi,
Sorry it's taken me so long to respond to your post.

I don't have any info on Patrick's brother but since Timothy isn't a very common name in my family and Patrick had a son with that name it's definitely possible.

It seems that Patrick was the son of John Hoban and his wife Mary (don't know her maiden name). It looks like John and Mary had 2 other sons named James and Thomas. Does that sound familiar?

Our grandparents were, John Francis Hoban b.1853 married to Honoria Matilda Connor b.1868. They were both National School Teachers in County Galway. John may have been born in County Mayo, and several family members were also teachers (ancesters and children). 4 of their children came to New York, Martin, John, Mary, and Thomas. All but Thomas stayed in the New York area.

Hi Ed, We are either 2nd or 3rd cousins once removed. Delia Glynn was my great grandmother's sister. My great grandmother was Mary Glynn, born 1870 in Parkmore Galway. Your grandmother Delia was born in 1872 in Parkmore. Their parents were Hubert Glynn and Mary Corliss. Mary stayed in Ireland and married Peter McHugh in 1862. I have more info now then when I wrote that post. My grandmother Julia McHugh came over here and married Denis Crowley. Do you know much of the family? I know there were brother Nicholas and James, also that Hubert was very tall, 6'4+". My father Donald Crowley was at least 6'4" also. Be interested in sharing more info, will send a message with email address.

Hi-

I believe you are referring to my grandmother (Tootsie). She had a brother William E born in 1903 and was from Newtron, MA. Her mother was Annie C Bagley (1872-1942) and her father was Michael J. Hoban (1871-1947?). I am trying to fing good information on Michael J's father, Michale Hoban who was born in Ireland about 1843 and married to Hanna from Ireland. As far as I can see both must have come to the US before 1866 or so, because all their children were born in the US. Lisa

I havent done much with the family history for awhile, been busy. Computer issues have put my family tree info into storage so I cant access it until I reinstall the software, but I remember a bit. My John Joseph Hoban was born in 1868 and, I am told, died in the flu epidemic in Idaho Springs, CO 1918. Weird thing is that the cemetary has no record of his burial there, just his wife Katie Murphy Hoban in 1955 and two or three infant children. So, I dont think the question is if we are related but how. J.J. had two brothers I can remember, Dennis and Charles. I believe both were dentists. Dennis is named after their father, Dionysius "Dennis" Hoban of County Mayo, Ireland and John Joseph is named after their grandfather. The 1870 census shows Dennis, his wife Mary Egan Hoban, and their son John Joseph in Luzerne County, PA. My grandmother swore that JJ was born in Ireland, however, the records in County Mayo for that period are incomplete. Was going to look into the catholic records in PA for baptisms in 1868. Does any of this sound familiar to you?
