Hope you know by now that Erasmus Marion Hobbs is a son of Charles Newton Hobbs, Sr. and Rebecca Ann "Becky" Tomlinson.

Grover Cleveland Hobbs is NOT part of OUR HOBBS. He may be part of the other HOBBS that arrived in Talladega Co., Ala. in the early 1820 era and that William Hobbs died 1837. He had 3 wives and a lot of kids. Lewis Hobbs, his son, came from Sampson Co. NC to deal with his father's estate, then most of that bunch of Hobbs moved on to Van Zandt Co., Texas about 1850. There is a book written on that William Hobbs, check with the LDS Family Library to see if they have a copy you can make copies of...

YOU are apparently kin to MY WilliamBenjaminII from Wake Co., NC. who died without a will in 1802, his wife died before the estate was settled. His son, George Hobbs, moved on to Monroe Co., Ga., then part of his descendants moved on to Talladega/Clay Co., Ala.

I would appreciate an update on your branch of Erasmus Marion Hobbs and his descendants. I am descendant of Erasmus' youngest brother, James "Jim" McDaniel/Daniel Hobbs who left Clay "Co. in 1870's and moved to Colorado Co. where he died at age 41 of stomach cancer. "Jim"'s wife died in Batson, Hardin Co., Texas and is buried in the Guidry Cemetery south of Batson. Hello Cousin, glad to meet you on internet...

Jeannine Hobbs Richards jeannine.richards@SBCGlobal.net

Re: Hobbs family in Indiana-Ohio-North Carolina

You seem to be running into the same problems I have encountered. There is a Drury Hobbs and Sarah Hobbs related to my mother's family tree (Elisha Ballard of Laurens County, Georgia). The problem one has to careful with is which Sarah Hobbs is which. The Ballard family Bible lists the birth of a Elizabeth Winslow Hobbs in 1816. The death of a Sarah Hobbs in 1835 and the death of another Sarah Hobbs in 1846 (her birth had been entered as 1757). This from the Ballard family Bible pages that are now in the Elisha Ballard papers in the Georgia State Archives. Also in the archives in this collection is the Hobbs Family Day Book. It lists family business in North Carolina until one John Hobbs declared that he was moving to Georgia in 1785. I have also seen deeds from 1798 for a John Hobbs and a Drury Hobbs buying land in Washington County, Ga. in 1798. Somehow through one of the Sarah Hobbs he book came into Ballard possession. My great great grandmother was named Zillah Hobbs, who married Eli Ballard. I know Larry Hobbs you mention was a preacher, and he is mentioned as preaching at a funeral in a Ballard letter from 1846. Hope this helps.
I'm looking for more info about Ashbel T. Hobbs. He was born about 1820, and spent most of his life is Luzerne Co. PA. I have him in the censuses 1850-1880, and I'm pretty sure I found him in the 1840 census as well. He was married to Maria Halsted, and his children were Alice, George, William, and Hiram, all born 1840-1853.

I can't seem to find out who his parents were, nor anything about Maria Halsted's family.

Any ideas?

Jock Hobbs, 52. Captain and New Zealand Rugby Union Chairman.
Jock Hobbs ,
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP)
- Former All Blacks captain and New Zealand Rugby Union chairman Jock Hobbs died of leukemia
on Tuesday. He was 52.
He died at Wellington Hospital, where he was admitted last week when his health suddenly deteriorated as a result of the illness he had battled for several years.
He captained the All Blacks in 16 of his 39 matches, including four of his 21 tests from 1983 to 1986. He retired aged 26 after a series of concussions.

Hobbs became a board member of the NZRU in 1995 and, after losing his seat in 1996, returned as its chairman in 2002. In that capacity, he led the team that in 2005 successfully bid for hosting rights to the 2011 Rugby World Cup. He quit the high-profile position in December 2010 due to ill health.
With his help, New Zealand retained all of its leading players as rugby changed from an amateur to professional game.

Hobbs returned as chairman of the New Zealand union in 2002, amid fallout over the country's failed bid to secure co-hosting rights with Australia for the 2003 World Cup.
He played a major role in putting together the bid that secured the 2011 tournament at the expense of Japan.
Hobbs had resigned from the chairmanship but was still present at Eden Park when New Zealand beat France 8-7 in the World Cup final on Oct. 23.
Hobbs is survived by wife Nicky - the sister of former All Blacks fullback and current Australia coach Robbie Deans - and four children. Son Michael is flyhalf for the Auckland Blues Super 15 rugby team.
Tina we are related and I am so sad it has taken me this long to find you. My grandmother was Mary Opal Hobbs who was half-sister to your g-grandmother Frankie Alzada Hobbs. My mother, Candace, has mentioned her Aunt Lou & thought she might have met your mother many years ago at Aunt Lou's house when you were visiting (???). I have A LOT of info on our family and would be willing to share whatever I have but to get you started:
Alzada's father was William Freemont Hobbs b. 28 June 1882 d. 6 May 1937. He is buried in the Greenlawn Cemetery and my grandmother replaced his headstone many years ago is very similar to hers.
Alzada's mother was Nora Jane Shipton b. May 1884. I am not sure what happened to her after they divorced her but I do have their divorce papers and there is some good drama there.
Aunt Lou (her real name is Bertha Louella Hobbs Delozier)and my Grandma Mary are both buried in the Dewey Cemetery. You can find both via findagrave but I would be happy to share my pics that I took personally. I have never found where Alzada is buried and hope you can help me with that...My mother seems to recall her passing out in California but thought she was buried with her sisters in Dewey(???). Also to note Alzada had two full brothers (James "Jay" and Theodore "Tex") and two half brothers (Bill "Billy" F Hobbs who died in the Korean war and 1 still living Hobbs)
Please email me at jodil5@hotmail.com. I look forward to getting in touch and sharing more info!
Regards, Jodi
