Charles or Charlie Hobson

I am searching for a friend a man named Charles or Charlie Hobson from Tennessee / Kentucky line area. He had a daughter named Katherine Lydia who was adopted by another couple as he entered the Military after she was born,, Her birth was in 1938. A woman from Bell County Ky..adopted her. Do not have any info on her birth mother.

Thomas Burrowes Hobson is my Great-Granduncle, his Grandfather Thomas Hobson is my 3rd Great-Grandfather.

My Grandfather was Thomas Kendal Hobson & Thomas Burrowes Hobson was his uncle. In 1881 he was living with T.B.H. and his family in Melbourne, Derbyshire.

T.K.Hobson's mother was Maria Lucy Hobson, who I lost for a while, but found after some searching married to a Henry Tilbrook and living in Suffolk.

I am still no further with finding T.B.H. - it is a mystery to me where he may have gone.

I too have had no success in finding him.I wonder if he went overseas? New Zealand is a possibility as one or two Hobsons emigrated in the 1860S.
I would be interested to see which line you are in - Thomas Burrowes Hobson is my 2nd Cousin, 3 x removed.His Gt Grandfather, Thomas, is my 4th Great Grandfather.

FYI Researching Hobson for over 40 years, I found in my research that there are three groups of Hobson's in Indiana. Mine are from Northern Ireland County Armagh. emigrated to America 1760s. The Park Co. IN Hobson's are from England and came here later. The Ireland Hobson's were also from England but were sent to Ireland by the King to bring about the settlement of Northern Ireland. I'm not positive the date but sometime in the mid 1500s. The third group of Hobson's is the oldest son to our ancestor out of Ohio.
The indication that all Hobson's living in Park Co. are from England does not hold true, I know some of our Hobson's that have past through or even lived there. In the scope of Research it's helpful to know.

I am seeking information on James Volintine Hobson . I am trying to find information if he used the nickname of Jolly.

I know from previous census he had used his middle name, Volintine, so it is not a far stretch to see the first initial and middle name to make up Jolly.

"Jolly" Hobson was a name used in a birth certificate for a single mother who lived 4 doors away and were within a couple years of the same age. Unfortunately, he was married to another woman at the time and that likely explains the lack of a marrage to cure the indiscretion.

I'm a decendent of George Washington Hobson. He was my great-greatgrandfather. Do you have any family stories I could add to my research. My family tree is listed on ancestry.com.

FYI-My family has an annual Hobson and Lewis Reunion (George W. Hobson and Lucinda Lewis) every year on the second Saturday in August. This year it will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 in North Vernon, IN. It's usually held near Catlin, IL. Most of those in attendance are the famlies of Edward L. Sinkes and Margaret E. Hobson (George W. Hobson's daughter). We would love to extend the participation.

I am trying to find Information regarding the above person.
He was Born in Great Glen / Groaby Leicestershire in May 1840, He married Priscilla Pryor in 1868 in St Giles London.
I have information regarding him upto the 1881 Census after that I can find no trace of him. His wife died in 1914, I can find Priscilla in all the other census information from 1891 to 1911 and even find details regarding her Will. On all the entries Priscilla describes herself as 'married' not a widow so I assume that Thomas may have left her. I have also checked FreeBDM and can find no entries which time in with Thomas. The last information I have is that he was living in Melbourne Derbyshire, and was a Corn & Lime Agent. I would appreciate any help in trying to find him.

I was born in Koscuisko, Mississippi May 24, 1949. My mothers maiden name was Rushing. She had a sister (Lois) who married Eddie's brother Raymond Hobson. Eddie lived in Kansas city and Covington OK . He is buried in Covingto. He passed May 12, 1984. He also had 4 oither children, Allen, Stephen, Diana & Terry.

I'm glad I've come across your board since I've been trying to dig up some extra information on the Hobsons. In my initial accepting of other people's trees, I ended up with a few connections that turned out to be implausible do to the dates, so I had to get creative and so some rearranging. I had Thomas Hobson (1666-1714, m. Sarah Clark) down as the father of John Hobson (1675-1716, m. Phoebe Adcock), for instance. A nine-year-old-father seems unlikely. Now I'm guessing they were brothers, both to father Thomas Hobson, Sr. (1636-1691, m. Sarah Webb). A lot of other Ancestry trees must have this error.

I have my Thomas Hobson down as born in Northumberland, VA in 1636, but the Northumberland County website's history page tells that "The first white settler to make a permanent home in the county was Col. John Mottrom, sometime between 1635-1640." Unless Hobson's father was right there with Mottrom, I'd bet he wasn't actually born in Northumberland.

Additionally, "New River Notes" has uploaded a Colonial Virginia Register (I found it here: http://www.newrivernotes.com/va/vareg1.htm) that lists a Thomas Hobson of Northumberland as born in 1637 in England.

What do you think? I'm not sure about the other connections you mentioned. There are a lot of possibilities.

In additon to things I have seen you note in various messages (e.g., R Hobson's book), I have a hard copy of the marriage registration for Marianne Hobson and Robert Cathcart. I'm still working on my Hobson's. Every time I find a new site I look for your dad. I just found your mother's and her parents. I don't know where I got the idea that your mother died several years ago, so surprised again to see she had passed in 2009 and use Lowell again. Hi Penny Long time no hear from. Rose Penny and I come from the same family. She's right, look in County Armagh Ireland with the Quakers. Fascinating History. BTW my grandmother (father's side) was Florence Hobson. First of her line not born a Quaker. I have not found a Charles Hobson in my database, so let me know what you find.

Try County Armagh Ireland, That's North Ireland. That's where my Hobson's hail from in 1764. They were Quakers. Good Luck

I am also researching Hobson's I did find an 1850 Census for Charles Hobson, wife Hannah, daughter Susannah, the rest of the children James, Alice, Henry, Roger. Henry would be my Great Great Grandfather and Charles my GGG Grandfather. I only have that he was born in Ireland via the Census. I am still looking trying to find where in Ireland.

My ancestor is Benjamin Hobson from County Armagh. He married a Elizabeth Pillar from Moy at the Grange meeting house in 1849. They immigrated to Canada in 1851. His father was also Ben Hobson. I believe he had 3 sons, Ben jr, William and Frances, but I need to confirm more. Do you have any info on this line we could share?

it doesnt look like either of us can connect with any assurity to the parents or to each other... since sarah and hubby left in 1826 and he in 1842 that would be the only similarity and that is 16 years apart and to two diff countries.... but same itchy feet ! we can each keep in touch tho so that we can celebrate when one of us finds something difinitive. keep on trying joyce

I have never been certain that my John Hobson is son of John Hobson & Elizabeth Dyson. Therefore I am not certain of his siblings. There was a John Hobson son of Joshua Hobson & Elizabeth Taylor in Huddersfield born abt. the same time.
My John emigrated to USA in 1842 with wife & fam.

Do you have info re which hamlet they lived in?

My grandmother was Ethel Coyt Hobson Tucker, sister of Ella Hobson Crews. My grandmother married Foster Tucker in 1913. She died in 1982 and is buried in Havana Cemetery in Havana Alabama. I met her brother Ferman and his wife Becky as a child and I met Ella Crews once.

trying to find any information on the children of rev. john hewlett b.d. and elizabeth hobson. births owuld be 1782 to 1800. the parents survived them but have been unable to find any names.would be interested on any information on the hobson family she is resident of st. john hachney in 1782 and they lived in the area till around 1800. he had a school in shacklewell.

Fred Hobson is my grandfather. He was married to my grandmother Elnora Hobson, they had 4 children: Kathleen, John Dixon, Mable Lanelle and Lillie. I'm the daughter of Lillie. Big twist here: Elnora's father was John Roy Hobson (he later changed his name to Hopson) who is the only son of Josiah Jackson Hobson and Joannah Kitchens. I was told that Joannah didn't marry again but had more children, that's the reason she had given them the Hobson name. Fred and Elnora were 1/2 first cousins. Fred left my Grandmother when my Mother (born in 1944)was a baby, and remarried in 1945. Talk about complicated!
