His first wife was Eva Catherina Fichtner; and later married Anna Elizabeth Otterbine. She later Married Martin John Pfeiffer. They moved to Charles city where she is buried. I've talked with Art Hoch a graet grandson to Jacob. There's no found grave stone of him since he was at the time where that area was being settled. Art also has no info regarding his parents or when he bcame over. That's about all I have regarding him.

Thomas:
If Art Hoch has not gotten back to you, I may be able to share some similar information that he may have. I also am a descendant of Jacob Hoch Sr., who emigrated from Wuerttemberg to the US in the mid-1820's and initially settled in Ohio. He had two children (Anna Maria and Johannes or "John"-my ancestor) with his first wife (Catharina Fiechtner), who apparently passed away around 1837. Jacob Sr. thereafter had the four children you mention, including your maternal ancestor, with his second wife, Elizabeth Otterbein. All the children were born in Ohio, except for Mathilda, who was born in Iowa. Jacob Sr. died in 1847 in Jefferson County Iowa. Some of the surnames and full names and other details that we currently have may not be exactly accurate in view of language and locale considerations for the time period in question.
regards,
ray hoch

Hi Bruce. I have extensive research on the Hoch family, mainly in Berks county and especially in and around Kutztown. Please contact me at my email, karin66@hotmail.com, so we can exchange information. I also have a cousin in Kutztown and I will ask her about any leads in Middlesex.

Christian Hoch had two brothers Jacob and William who were born in Ohio. His sister Mathilda was also born in Iowa. There mother Elizabeth remarried to Martin Phieffer and had other children. They moved to Charles City and Martin is buried in the Riverside Cemetery. A Mrs. Phieffer is also buried there; but I can't confirm if that's Elizabeth. I have her maiden name as Antterline or Otterbein. I can't confirm either one. Her first husband passed away around 1847 the time Mathilda was born. I have his first name as John but I can't confirm that either. I can't seem to lacte where he might be buried. Mathilda married Adam Witter and they're my great grandparents.
Tom Van Veldhuizen

I have a Jacob Hoch in my family tree who was married to Elizabeth M. Antterline. I have some family trees that show Otterbein. Jacob (1815-1847) and Elizabeth (1820-1903). They had four children:Jacob, William, Christian, and Mathilda. Mathilda married Adam Witter and they are my great grandparents. There son Frederick is my grandfather. Frederick and Alice had one daughter Helen my mother. I'm Thomas Van Veldhuizen. Elizabeth later married Martin John Pfieffer. The kids names being identical are too much of a coincedence. I'm also looking for help in expanding both family trees. From family scrapbooks have information stating Mathilda was born around Burlington, IA.

I believe believe he married Elizabeth Antterline. I can't verify her maiden name; but it was in some other info about her daughter Mathilda Hoch. Maybe yours is correct. They had four children before he passed away. The others were Jacob, William and Christain. She remarried to Martin John Pfeiffer and they had five more children: Frederick, Martin, Herman, Lydia, and Charles. Mathilda married Adam Witter in Charles City, IA. They had seven sons and two daughters: William, Emil, Martin, Frederick, Ernest, Edwin, Ralph, Lydia, and Nellie. That was in Sherrill's Mound now called Sherril. They moved to Storm Lake, IA in 1890. Frederick C. Witter married Alice M. Hughes in Storm Lake where they had one child a daughter. Her name was Helen J. Witter and she married ed Van Veldhuizen from Hospers, IA. They are my parents and they had four children. I am Thomas E. Van Veldhuizen their son. I don't know how much of this you can use; but hopefully it's of some help.

I am researching my husband's family and hit a brick wall with Louis and Theresia Hoch. The earliest census they are listed in is 1870 in Kentucky. According to the 1900 census, Louis immigrated in 1858 - but I don't know anything about his whereabouts between 1858 and 1870. If you have any info on this family, I'd love to know!

I have an original 6”x8” photograph of “E. W. Hoch – Marion, Kansas”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Topeka (Shawnee Co.) Kansas, and he looks to be about age 45-50.

I found E. Wallis Hoch in the 1900 census for Marion Co., KS, with birthdate March 1849, born Kentucky; he was a “publisher editor”. Wife was Sarah Louise, born Oct 1853. 1910 census same location shows Edward W. Hoch, age 61, a newspaper publisher. 1850 Kentucky census shows he was son of Edward and Elisabeth Hoch.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Edward Wallis Hoch.

Karin, Yes I got a lot of information on the Hoch Family from Charles Kerchner's chart. Rudolph is as far back as I have been able to trace...do you have links prior to his birth? Were they originally from France? I know that Basel is not far from the French border and that they were Huguenots according to Kerchner. Donna

Greetings! I'm assuming you have seen Charles Kerchner's family chart on the Hochs? If not, check it out by Googling the surname. I am Karin Hoch Stedman, and have been researching the Hoch name for many years. If you'd like some resources and to share, contact me here and we can email. I have one juicy chart that goes WAY back to Basel, Switzerland and am confirming it's authenticity currently. Thanks, Karin :-)

Hi Bruce - The book is the decendents of Rudolph and Melchoir Hoch and is as complete as I can tell up to my grandfather's generation (he and his brothers and sisters were born mostly in the early 1900s). I don't know if the book is still available as I have lost track of its author, Patti Alford Lingenfelter.

I am happy to share its contents with you, but it's a pretty good sized book and if you can help me with WHAT you want, that will make things lots easier.

Good luck on your research.

(JLJames67 here, changed the log in name) I sent Patricia Alford a letter a while ago and it came back in the mail, saying that either no one lived there or the address was wrong. I rechecked to be sure I didn't mistype anything on the envelope, so she must not live there anymore. Anyhow, I thought, since it seemed that you had a copy of this Hoch book, I would ask if you would be willing to share any information from it with me or be willing to swap any information on the Hoch family. I have all sorts of names and dates from my grandmother (who I know worked a little with Patti). If your interested, please leave a message, or e-mail me at JDJames89@aol.com. Thanks.

This is an old post and I don't know if you have found the information you were seeking, however, Valentin Hoch, born October 15, 1808, Oberschoneau, state of Kurhessen (Hesse-Kassel)-- present day state of Thuringia, Germany -- is my g-g grandfather. Valentin Hoch immigrated to Texas in 1845 a member of the Adelsverein and settled in Hochheim, DeWitt County, Texas in 1848. I have a great deal of information on this family. Also need to advise ALL Valentin Hoch descendants of a "descendant reunion" on October 25, 2008 in celebration of Valentin's 200th birth date.
Interested descendants should contact me by email at: ddrinsp@aol.com
