My Hodson is Mary Anne who married Samuel Long 1849 Chesterton, Cambridgeshire. They had 2 children in England (1850, 1851) before immigrating to South Australia where they had another 7, the first born 1853. Sam died 1892 Norwood & Mary Anne 1902 Peterborough.
MAH appears to have been born in 1828 Blunlishem, Huntingdonshire to a Benjamin Hodson. He was possibly b. 1799 Somersham & maybe married a Mary Boldam/Beldam. This I'm unsure of.
The 2 witnesses for SL/MAH marriage were a David Townsend & Melody Hodson. DT married a Caroline Hodson (dau. of Thomas) 1846 Chesterton & Melody Hodson (dau. of Thomas) married Henry Royston 1856 Chesterton. Both contiued to lived in Chesterton & have children. The 1871 Census shows in the DT/CH household an elderly lodger was Benjamin Hodson. Based on my currently limited info I'd say Ben & Thomas were brothers originating in Huntingdonshire & that my Mary Anne was cousin to Caroline and Melody. I wonder if I'm right? :)

Gosh, that's interesting! There has always been a bit of a family story that the Hodsons are descendants of Bloody Jeffreys the Hanging Judge, the nice Royalist judge during the English Civil war in the 1600s....do you know if there is any truth to this shocking rumour?

Hi Kate
I just saw your post, I am descended from Edward Hodson b1784 Ludlow Shropshire son of Richard Hodson/Elizabeth Jeffries
My connection is through my maternal grandmother Martha Matilda Hodson b1876, Liverpool Lancashire.
She was a daughter of Ernest Francis Hodson b1852 Birmingham who was a son of Edward Hodson b1812 Nottingham who was a son of the 1784 Edward.
I recently got connected with another branch of my 1812 Edward also in Australia, which between us comparing information made the connection to Richard Hodson/Elizabeth Jeffries
Ray Jenkins
Surrey BC Canada

Josiah is the son of Cyrus & Rhody (Halstead) Hodson. I am looking for the death place & burial place of Rhody & Cyrus. Last location I have for the is in the 1870 Federal Census in Sharon Twp. Fayette County, Illinois. At this time Josiah is 12 years old. The uncle that he was staying with is Rhody's brother. I do not know why he was living with them at this time. I never again find the rest of the family, other than him. Josiah later married Elizabeth Flora Van Arsdol in Delaware County, Indiana. They are my second Great-Grandparents.

Hello Winsome,

I am Darryl Thomas Hodson, in Auckland New Zealand. I am descended from Francis Thomas Hodson (1975-1936) and Diana Hodson (1848-1931). The eldest of their children was James Hodson (1868-1944) who did marry Eva nee Griffin (1868-1938). Francis and Diana's second son was Thomas - from whom I am directly descended. (I have a photograph of Francis' and Diana's sons taken all together as grown men.)
James and Eva had two older daughters - Doris [Kerr] (1890-1954) and Ida [Scott] (1892-1968). They then had a son Albert (1893-1944) who married Mary Noyer (1896-1958), a second son James junior (1895-1910), followed by two more daughters Kathleen (1896-1987) and Baby Eva who did not survive her first year (1897-1897). There then followed three further sons: Edgar (1899-1958), Reginald (1900-1918) and Bernard (1902-1985). After Bernard followed three further children: Elsie [Leach] (1907-1989), Eric (1910-1980) and finally Keith (1912-1972).
The eldest child of Albert and Mary (nee Moyer) was Joan (1921-2007) who married Arthur (Jack) Pantall (1918-1980). I have an email contact with one of their grandchildren.
If you want to know more or ask questions, best contact me directly by email: taranakifulla@xtra.co.nz

kind thoughts,
Darryl Hodson

I don't so far have a contact for the New Zealand strand (Heather Smith who did extensive work on the family tree has died), and so if you are able to help in this respect, this would be much appreciated.

Hello, I'm Hugo (Pollak) from Middlesbrough in England. I'm a great grandson of Annie Hodson. I'm interesting in family history, and in particular would like to know more about what happened to the Russian strand of the family. I've looked with fascination at the work you've done, and would be happy to fill in gaps and add comments from knowledge I and my mother have about Annie Hodson's descendants. I'm also trying to get in touch with a Canada strand (via Nick, son of Leo, grandson of James). I'd also like to know how you fit into the family tree, and where you live in New Zealand. You may have been in touch with my niece Rebecca Edgeley a couple of years ago. My sister Madeleine lives in Adelaide now, and I hope to come to Australia and New Zealand in the next few years.

Thomas Hodson bap.9th Nov 1828(St John Cranford)was indeed the son of John Hodson, farmer and publican of the 'Three Stags' Inn in Cranford St John. Thomas married Harriet Wiggins in 1853 and had, in fact, 8 children.
Thomas Hodson bap 28th Dec, 1788 was the son of Richard Hodson/Hodgson and Grace Panter and Uncle to the above. This Thomas married Dinah and had 5 children, 3 born in Nassingham and 2 at Woodnewton.
Hope this is of some help.
The only Thomas Hodson about that time was born in 1828 (son of Jno Hodson born 1y779) married Harriet and had 7 children. Is this the same Thomad Hodson?

Yes, I think this is the same family. I found them in the 1870 census in Kansas. Some of the children were born in Iowa. Sarah was born in Virginia. David was a chaplain during our Civil War. I have Ancestry if I can help you further. There is also a son, J.M. listed with the family. You can e-mail me at Lass53@aol.com

Nancy

Sorry, I do not have any information on this Lydia. But you mentioned parents David and Sarah J, Hodson. Did your Lydia have a sibling named John Melton. My John Melton had parents named David and Sarah Hodson, and he had a daughter named Lydia Melvina. I have little information on this family; I believed that the David and Sarah in my line moved from Indiana to Iowa, and have no record of them in Kansas. However, John Melton Hodson and his family did live in Kansas in that time frame.
