Francis settled in NY first, then Wichita, Sedgwick County KS. After he came to America he went by Frank Hoff. He had 3 sons that I know of Frank, Albert and Arthur.

I don't know if any of our Hoff's came from Switzerland yet. I am still trying to confirm my great grandmother Zetella Hoff Barrett's mother. Her father, Clifton Hoff, remarried and I have proof of his re-marriage but want to find out about great grandma's mother. Stories have been told that Clifton did not want her and she went to live with her maternal grandmother but those are stories. I do have tin-type pictures of the Chrislip's who were Clifton's maternal relatives and Clifton's siblings. His sister, Louisa Hoff Stoalabarger lived here in Oklahoma with my grandmother until her death at age 98. I knew her well. She was a beautiful West Virginia lady. Thank you for posting a reply for me. I will keep searching and let you know if I turn up anything. I live on the Kansas/Oklahoma State line and would like to go on a search in Kansas sometime. What city/area did Francis settle in?

I have pictures of Clifton, Monzel and other members of the family that was my Great Grandmother Zetella Hoff Barrett's. I have been researching Zetall's parents and hitting some dead ends. This info will help. I can get you a CD of the pics I had professionally scanned and put on CD to preserve the fragile leather album of old pics.

My great grandmother was Zetella Hoff Barrett of Bluejacket, OK. According to my grandmother, she was the daughter of Clifton Hoff. I have a photo album of Great Grandmother Zetella made by Monzel M. Hoff and a business card of his. My Great Aunt Lou was Louisa Hoff Stoalabarger. I have the newspaper article announcing her marriage to Amos. Somehow in our genealogy I cannot find connection of Zetella to Clifton. The information that Cora J. Board was his first wife might be the connection. What children did they have?

In the 1880 census he was living with his uncle William Crawford in Morrison (Whiteside County) Illinois. William Crawford was married to Sarah Champlin in 1870. William was born in Canada in 1845.

Thanks for your reply, captainlaser! Unfortunately I don't think this is the Genevieve Hoff I'm looking for, mine had a child (my grandmother) in 1916 and so couldn't have been born as recently as 1914. But I really appreciate your willingness to help, thanks again.

I would be very grateful for any information on my great-grandmother, Genevieve Hoff, of Linn County IA. All I know of her is that she died in San Francisco in 1944 and was the daughter of a minister, I believe in Cedar Rapids. Her daughter, Esther Marie, was raised by an aunt of Genevieve's, a sister of her mother, a Mrs. Blake. Esther was born in 1916 (I believe in September) and died in May 2005 in Vista, CA. Genevieve was perhaps fifteen or sixteen when she gave birth. I would be most grateful for any information that might be provided.

I am searching for a Sybille Hoff birth 22 March 1847 died 18 June 1924. My info has her as being born in New Jersey, but I do not know where she died. She lived in Montgomery County, Ohio in my information. She was married to Samuel Foreman and had 4 childre - Charles, George,Harry and Minnie with Samuel. Later married a Ina Lucas. Janet, So nice to know we are related. Your father and my father A.W. Hoff were brothers. I would love to share any information if your willing. I'm somewhat concerned over the William G Hoff that was suppose to be born in 1810. My information says that he was married to Jane Belshe, however, I cannot verify the marriage for a date. Kannewasser is very close to the name I have for the mother of Henry Hart, great grandfather of my husband. According to Emma Hart Wark, Abraham (father of Henry 1887-1942) was married to Mary A Conawsser. I haven't found any information about her. I had a hunch the spelling could be wrong. Just wanted to get this factule up on the board: My wife "remembered" that her father Edward Hart (< Jacob < Abrahm < Lewis) spoke of relatives with surname Kannewasser. A number of Kannewassers turn up easily in 1880, 1910, 1920, 1930 US censuses. A number are buried in Hebrew Mutual Cemetery in Philadelphia, the cemetery of short-lived Dutch Jewish congregation, B'nai Israel. I'm going to start looking for Kannewassers in other census years. Name must be messed up.

Pat, I remember my dad, Howard talking about Aunt Ruth, and also Aunt Emma and Uncle Jack? I have penny postcards Sarah's 3 sons wrote her when they were young. I can only assume after her death that someone in the Hart family gave them back. I also have a postcard with Abe Hart's picture on it in his army uniform. Sarah had 3 sons, William Howard Alexander born 1911, my Dad was next, Howard Brewster ALexander Jr. born 1915 and Richard Marion [Marion after Sarah's sister] born 1918.
