I am looking for the parents or siblings of Sophia Alice Hoflund (also sometimes spelledHaflund) 12/18/1884-10/3/1938. Alice married Henry Edward Statler 5/5/1905 in Phillips County, Colorado and lived near Haxtum and Flagler, Colorado. Also living with her for a period of time was younger sister Mabel Hoflund (Abt 1889 - ??) Do you have any information on these Hoflund girls? They may have come to Colorado from Iowa or Illinois, but this is speculation. Please contact me at boredattorney@hotmail.com if you think you have any information that would help. Thanks!

Re: early Hofflands Norwegian

HI,

my great-grandfather came from Norway in the 1880's and changed the family name from Hovland to Hoffland. The reason was, according to my father and uncle, that due to the fact there were so many Hoffmans in Northern Iowa, he thought Hoffland sounded more American. His brother refused to use the double "f" and stayed with Hovland.

Regards,

Marv Hoffland
an Iowan living in Austria
