Hi,My name is Jenny Mackay. I can't find much info on the Hoggan family tree. My grandfather was Frank Hoggan (1910-1974) the 3 generations before him were all James. Could there be a connection? Can you be of assistance. Thanks

John Hoggan House Painter married Elizabeth Matthews

They had a daughter Agnes Hoggan who married Robert Law 1905. They are my Grandparents on my Dad's side who had a brother John Law

I am finding it difficult to trace more of the Hoggan side of the family. I remember my Father saying one of the Hoggans stayed in Dubbieside and worked on the railway

Regards
Davina Kennedy (Nee LAW)

Hi,

I am trying to track any descendants of Euphemia Sinclair (1879-1968) and her husband James Hoggan. They married in Dunfermline in 1906.

I am also interested in the descendants of any of Euphemia's siblings. She was the daughter of William Sinclair (1853-?) and Margaret Stewart (1851-1928.) Her siblings were Daniel, William, James, Isabella, John, Malcolm, and Margaret. William jR. died in S Africa about 1903 and wouLD love to learn more about that.

Hi Michelle

Just had a previous message returned - without thinking just hit the Reply option for the Gatewayed version on the e-mail messages and didn't use the Message Board link.

Don't know if you have contacted Rosemary as yet......she's a fabulous source of info on all these connected families. She and I have been in contact for some time now. My main interests are SNEDDON, JARVIE and HOLLINSWORTH with HOGGAN, LOGAN, MUIRHEAD and umpteen others that have married into my lines or some of my ancestors numerous children chose as marriage partners. Would love to exchange info re the SNEDDONS, as well as all the other links even if only distant. So many cousins seem to have married cousins or cousins removed that if one doesn't include the more distant one's - in-laws lines - you'll never be able to figure out some of these families -

My Sneddon descent line: heads of family only:-
1. John SNADAN m Susan FERGUSON
(Susan's parents James Ferguson and Ann McEwan)
2. their son James SNEDDON m Isabella JARVIE
Isabella's parents John Jarvie & Jean Dawson)
3. their son James SNEDDON m Isabella McKean HOLLINSWORTH
(Isabella's parents James Hollinsworth &Janet Campbell)
4. their son James SNEDDON m 1)Matilda DAVIE 2)Esther Mary
FOSTER
5. their daur from m 2) Thelma SNEDDON m Thomas E HURLY.

The connection to Leishman/Kirkwood/Hoggan etc stems from a gGtUncle, Alexander brother of James Sneddon sons of John Snadan & Susan Ferguson. Alexander m Margaret MUIRHEAD which leads me to the Hoggan/ Logan/ Leishman /Kirkwood links, but there are also Jarvie links into some of these families as well just to add some multiple relationships along the way, and they all had large families!!!

Would love to share info with you as well, although I'm not nearly as up to date as Rosemary is with anything I have on line.

Look forward to hearing from you

Thelma
Johannesburg South Africa
(Why I chose this continent and didn't follow in the steps of my ancestors to Canada, USA or Australia is anyone's guess.....if you know of any Sneddons who did come this way - do let me know as I haven't been able to trace any thus far that I can link to!!)
Hi
I have the marriage, April 1879 Falkirk, of Peter Leishman/Mary Aikman on the IGI which you suggest as a possible one for the parents of Peter Leishman married to Margaret Kirkwood, but can find no record of a Peter Leishman being born to them.

The children found thus far are - (ran a CBatch Search and a Parent Search) :-

Mary 10 MAY 1789 Falkirk
Janet 06 MAR 1791 Falkirk
James 15 FEB 1795 Falkirk
Janet 11 JUN 1797 Falkirk
Helen 16 JUN 1799 Falkirk
Robert 26 JAN 1806 Falkirk

In fact I can find no Peter Leishman on the IGI born anywhere in Scotland to match the Peter married to Margaret Kirkwood despite having the IGI entry for their marriage and a transcription of his DCert. If the age 65 yrs on the DCert, May 11 1870, Denny STI,is accurate then Peter would have been born +/- 1805 and considering the dates on the list above a birth between those of Helen and Robert would certainly fit.

Do you perhaps have more information re Peter's d.o.b. that would support the possibility of this Falkirk family being his?

My interest is in the various Sneddons and Jarvie lines who marry both Leishmans and Kirkwoods in several generations and connections to the Muirhead and Hoggan families - Margaret Muirhead having married a GGUncle of mine - Alexander Sneddon. Moyra, Rosemary, and Wyllie have all been helpful in sorting out these sometimes convoluted relationships so it's great to find someone else to compare notes with. Will watch future messages with interest.

Regards
Thelma
Johannesburg South Africa
not sure we are related, but my great-great grandfather was John Peter Leisman, born about 1810 in Oldenburg Germany. He married Margared Klem and they came to southern Indiana in the early 1840's. They later moved to missouri and from there father west.
Yes we have a difficult line here as Margaret Biggins married three times Leishman, campbell and McFarlane.Peter Leishman married to Margaret Beggins died in the street of a heart problems at 22 years old, they had two children at the time, Janet,William was my husbands grand father.
She went on to marry into the campbell family and had two sons.
Moyra

Unfortunately he died 19/04/1894 and I have not found any offspring from their marriage so will now trace Janet and Willaim.

Hi Thelma like Pete I have never assumed anything Peter Leishman married to Margaret Kirkwood has always been a problem I have the same problem in my own family tree with only the father listed and no mother, but I have had missing children on the sibling search before so its still possible Mary Aikman was the mother, there is a family story saying the leishman,s came from Germany a long time ago but I know from family stories they can be false, although we have an aunt still alive at 90 years old that still says we have a German connection so I think anything is possible.Hope we can all continue to give each other help on this one ,the person cracking this problem wins more than a pat on the back

Regards Moyra Leishman

Moyra,

Like you I am also a bit stuck as there is no Mother on Peter's death cert. I can also not find a birth cert for a Peter Leishman born in 1805.(By the way he is my Great Great Great Grandad). I too am working on the assumption that his mother was Mary Aikman because of various Census records and groups of siblings.
It is very frustrating as I am relunctant to go further back without the evidence.

Regards
Pete Gurney

I am very interested in your family tree, our direct link is Peter Leishman and Margaret Kirkwood, have not been able to go any further as Peter,s death cert says only father,s name no mother is listed.I have often suspected it could be Mary Aikman, but have nothing to back me up.

Regards Moyra Leishman

Hi Wyllie,
I am new to this message board concept so bear with me!
I am very interested in the Leishman line. I have traced the Kirkwood line back to James Kirkwood how married Agnes Stirling 20 Jun 1813. But my real interest as I say is the Leishman line. I believe a Peter Leishman married Margaret Kirkwood in 1834 his parents were Peter and Mary Aikman and I believe this Peter's parents were James and Janet Russell but have few details on these. Can you help?
