Thursey Ann Hamilton (Holder) also has a brother that I think is named Robert A Holder b 10 Sep 1882 Kaufman, TX and d 5 Sep 1964 Dallas, TX. It shows his parents being Archie Holder and Mary Phillips.

Her son, Robert A Hamilton was born 1919 and daughter Lillian Louise Hamilton was born 1910. I'm gueesing she was born somewhere around 1880. They lived in the Matagorda, Tx area. I found a Thursey A Hamilton b 16 May 1880 in TX and d 1 Dec 1949 Terrell, Kaufman, Tx. As this is where her grandkids were born I would guess this is her. It shows her father as Arch Holder b TX and mother Mary Phillips b unk.

Helping poster of a previous message looking for info on "Dellie Mae Holder" I found this information and thought I would post it to help any other Holder researchers....

Possible parents of Mary Holder/Holden b. abt 1913/1914 in James or Hamilton County TN are Grover Holder and Dellia/Della/Dellie Lowe.

1910 Civil District 1, James County TN census has Grover Holder as boarder in a Richey household (step-brother's hh), one household below is Jesse Lowe with daughter Della and then 4 households below Lowe is Ramsey household with son Logan.

Death Record for Grover Holder Aug 12, 1914 in Hamilton County was married and parents George Holder and Rebeca Glover. Lived in Harison/Harrison TN.

Marriage record for Dellie Holder to Logan Ramsey 1916 in James County. TN

1920 TN Hamiton Co census Jesse and Mary Lowe have granddaughter Mary Holder age 6 in household.

Death record of Mrs. Dellia Ramsey d. April 30, 1919 in Hamilton County, buried in Harrison, TN May 2, 1919, father Jess Lowe, mother Mary Harden, married, informant Jess Lowe. Same address for Dellia and Jess so I believe she moved out of Ramsey hh to parents after birth of Ramsey daughter b. 1918/1919.

1930 TN Hamilton County Census has Mary Holden/Holder listed as granddaughter in Mary Lowe household. Mary Lowe has she is a widow but husband Jess is in a son's hh listed as father and married. Both Jess and Mary Lowe's grave sites are listed on Find a Grave.

James County TN went bankrupt in 1919 and all records were supposed to be given to Hamilton County. The top of the page of 1920 Hamilton County census has noted the civil district used to be in James County.

Harrison is in Hamilton County and parts were flooded when a dam was constructed 1940 or so. The graves of Grover Holder and Dellia nee Lowe, Holder, Ramsey may have been moved or not. TVA may have information or the agency that built the dam as to what cemeteries were affected.

As I stated earlier this is possible parents for a Mary Holder b. 1913/1914 raised by Lowe grandparents. Have not found her after 1930 census.

Grover Holder is listed as a step-son in the Joe Richie with wife Rebecca J. household for the 1900 Civil District 7, Hamilton County, Tennessee census So George Holder died or left family by 1900.

Death record has birth date for Grover Holder as June 12, 1898 but lists age as 24 yrs so age and censuses have birth yr as 1890/91.

Mae/May is middle name of Dellia/Dellie according to Ramsey descendant.

We need someone in this line to submit a DNA test, and that will be the undeniable proof.

I believe the original source probably had the Johnson Co., NC birth location wrong, and I had noted that "the parents may be wrong". I believe the best evidence that Joseph Nathaniel Holder is the same one shown age 4 in Davie Co., NC is the fact the age is correct, and the mother Nancy Allen Holder died 16 Nov 1893 in Madison Co., IN. No other Holder line lived in this county that I can find.

Joseph Nathaniel Holder was living in Madison Co., IN by 1870 went by the name Nathan in the census records 1880 and later.

Jacob Holder and Nancy Allen do appear to have had a son named Joseph, who is age 4 in the 1850 Davie Co. census. I have no further information on him, but if he's the same person as Joseph Nathaniel Holder, then it's extremely unlikely that he was born in Johnston Co. NC. Conversely, if Joseph Nathaniel was definitely born in Johnston Co., then it's extremely unlikely that he was the son of Jacob and Nancy Allen Holder. Davie and Johnston counties are not close to one another, and are associated with different Holder families.

Does Joseph Nathaniel have a living male-line descendant? DNA testing would be very helpful here.

Holders with Indian blood. I am descended from Joseph Sidney Holder and Minnie Bell Seago. Minnies father was William Tillman Seago and through the female line goes back to Powcahatas. There is closer Indian blood through the female side.

The only line I know of that has any indian blood in their line is that of Isaac Bledsoe Holder b. 20 Dec 1783 SC d. 14 Aug 1861 Pottsboro, in Grayson Co., TX & Elizabeth Ann Stewart b. 1794 SC d. 1879 Grayson Co., TX.

Isaac Bledsoe Holder is part of the (D2b)DNA group.

Elizabeth Ann Stewart was 1/8 - 3/8 Chickasaw indian.

Felix was a grandson of Isaac's brother Mark's line, and this means you probably have zero indian blood.

Looking at what you posted doesn't look right for George Holder's age. I did look back to previous help and here is what I found.

The Cordelia Maples married (1)to George Halder/Healder/Holder & married (2) to a Henry Brewer is found in his household in 1910 TX Collin County census with Holder step-children Ethel 10, Mirtle 9, Shade 7 and mother-in-law Mary Maples.
The children are listed twice in 1910, previous day in another household as boarders only Ethel is listed as Mary age 10, Myrtle 8, and Shade 6.

Cordelia is age 44 in 1910 making her b. abt 1866.

In 1900 she is listed as Cardelia Halder, wife, in George Halder household in Grainger County TN Civil District 1
George is 26 (abt 1873) b. TN father NC mother GA
wife Cardelia is 32 (abt 1868) b. TN
son James age 11
son Burl age 4 First child with George...
dau Marry E age 7 mos
sister (to Geo) Allis Halder 16.

In TN Marriage Records a Geo Holder married a Delia Maples Nov 13, 1897 in Grainger County TN (index has 14th)

Since Geo and Delia married 1897 then son James in 1900 census is from a previous marriage. Burl could also not be Cordelia's and Geo married her while Burl still an infant.

So you are looking for a George Holder/Halder b. abt 1873
and Cordelia age 16 is in J.B. and Mary Maples household in 1880 Grainger County District 1

I post the names as they appear in an online database. If I typed Carma then that is how it was written and or transcribed in the record. Her birth record has "Cormy" so look for all spellings in other records.
This is not my Holder line I just help others.
Your search for NA ancestry should be for the Lankam surname and I have seen "h & H" transcribed as "k/K" before so I would suggest you look for Lanham too. There are no Cherokee in OH for the 1800's. Read up on the Indian Removal Act, also Trail Of Tears. If Cambie's ancestry was Cherokee then they would be in Indian Terrtory (Oklahoma) by Cambie's birth, if not her parents.

Now Holder is a registered Cherokee name according to Bill Holder's website

Check with him to see if your Epson Holder line is one of them.

My oldest sister (she is 64) knew my great grandparents and she said that Cambie was full blooded Indian, but never did think to ask what tribe. I never knew what to believe what my father told me, but he was said that we had Cherokee. Would you be able to verify what tribe my greatgrandmother (Cambie) belonged to? Again thanks for the help. The John Holder b. 1828 is son of Epson/Epson/Epsum Holder and Sarah Wright. So in 1885 IA census William is living in grandfather's household. Find A Grave has a picture Epson Holder's gravestone.

Hi everyone!! I am trying to find further information about my great grandparents. My great grandfather's name was William Drew. He was born abt 1865 in Missouri, but I don't know what city. He married Cambie (born abt 1867 in Illinois). Don't know her last name or the their anniversary date. It appears they lived in Iowa in the early 1900's in Appanoose County. Their daughter's name is Cormie G. Holder and she married William Drew (who immigrated here to the states from England) in the early 1900's. If anybody has any information that you are willing to share it would be much appreciated. Also trying to figure out what tribe my great grandmother was from. In 1785 a John Holder signed the will of a Thomas Husbands of Taynton. Original is in Gloucester Record Office.
I believe there were Holders connected with Taynton House.

Can't find obits, I know he had a daughter after divorcing Maedean (my grandmother) but don't know her name or who her mother is/was. I see 2 trees on Ancestry for a Charlie Joe Holder' both have b. Oct 31, 1918 in Rock Island, Rock Island County IL, and died Nov 12, 1975 in Elko, Nevada. You might order a copy of death certificate or look for obit in local paper. Looks like he had 3 children with a wife Maedeen who died in 2000. One son has died in CO 2003, born in WY 1947.

Here are my notes for Joseph P. Holder:
1840 Perry Co. TN census (p 165) lists Joseph Holder 20-30 with 1 male 5-10, 1 male 15-20, 1 female 15-20 and 1 female 30-40. John Holder (bachelor 30-40) and Lany Holder (4 or 5 children and wife) are living adjacent in the next two houses.

1850 Searcy Co. AR census (Bear Creek Twp p 8/332 house #53) lists Joseph Holder 53 VA; Nancy 40 TN; Spencer 14 TN; and Joseph 9 TN. Also in the same dwelling, but numbered separately, were Patrick Bradshaw 32 GA; Pernina 23 TN; Francis E. female 6; John Wesley 4; and James T. T. 2 all born Arkansas. Where they related to Joseph and Nancy?

1860 Searcy Co. AR census (Bearcreek Twp p 7/829 PO Burrowville house #33) shows Joseph Holder 65 VA; Nancy 50 VA; Joseph 18 TN. In house #36 was Spencer Holder 22 TN; and Louisa 17. It looks like they had probably recently married. At this time Joseph had 2 adult black female slaves and 7 slave children 1-13.

1870 Searcy Co. AR census (p 21/12 house #139 in Bear Creek) lists Joseph Holder 72 VA and Nancy 71 VA. There was a black Holder family next door, and then Spencer Holder 40 TN and his family.

1880 Searcy Co. AR census (ED 173 p 40 in Bear Creek) shows Joseph Holder [Jr or Sr] 84 VA (both parents b VA); Nancy 75 VA (both parents b VA); Sid Smith 17 TN (TN TN) grandson; and Nancy Smith 18 granddau AR (TN TN). Sid and Nancy Smith were both marked "married" so it looks like Nancy, the dau of Spencer, who married Robert Sydney Smith, is living with her grandparents to help them out. She is also still listed in the home of Spencer and Louisa.

Grave stone gives his name as Joseph P. Holder II.

This Joseph has been said to be closely related to the John Holder (kit #21) who died in 1863 in White Co. TN. Joseph's desc. submitted DNA kit #35. However they differ on marker #36 DYS 442, which is not a rapidly changing marker.

The children of Joseph P. and Nancy Pigg are believed to be Mary who married James Smith; Spencer who married Louisa C. May or Mayes; and Joseph who married Sarah M. Wilson.

Regarding Joseph P.'s father and siblings: There are 3 Holders in the 1840 Perry Co. TN who could be siblings: Joseph, John, and Lany Holder. Joseph and John both seemed to have moved to Searcy Co. AR before 1850. The widow of John moved back to Perry Co, TN by 1860. Laney stayed in Perry Co. TN.

On the grave stone of Joseph Holder who died in 1881 in Searcy Co. AR, it gives his name as Joseph P. Holder II. I will assume this means he was the son of a Joseph P. Holder, but more research is needed.

Joseph P. (maybe Perry) was born in VA and moved to Bear Creek, Searcy Co, AR before 1850 with his wife who was born in Tenn. Their children included Spencer Holder (1837-1890)who was born in Tenn. He married Louisa C. Mayes. Their children may have included Joe, Pocahonatas, Nancy, Perry, Hattie, Spencer, Joseph and my great grandfather, Green Berry. Neither my sister nor I have found any further details about the Joseph P or the Spencer Holder families. There may be Native Americans in the family tree, obviously with some of Spencer's children's names. I have the information since 1850, but nothing before then. Any further information would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone has any information if the family was involved in the Civil War, since I've not found anything there either.

Mrs. Parker is survived by four brothers, three sisters, a daughter, Mrs. Dismukes and four sons, G. C. Parker of Muskogee; L. P. Parker, Green, Iowa; E. H. Parker and H. A. Holder of Nashville.
The body will be sent to Bethpage, Tenn., for burial this morning at 11 o’clock by the Petering-Lescher Undertaking company.

Laura was the eldest child of Alphonso Gillispie Holder and Susan Caroline (Smith) Holder. Laura was born in Rowan County, North Carolina 26 August 1852 and died 7 October 1924 at Muskogee, Muskogee County, Oklahoma. Laura married Joel Penick Parker at Sumner County, Tennessee 25 November 1875.

If your father's will was probated, it should be in the county where he lived. Unless it was probated after his death, it won't be filed in court. Usually the lawyer who drew it up will have a copy and maybe whoever he named as executor. He would have had a copy and could have kept it anywhere. The deceased person has no control over what happens after his death. My mother-in-law said her father made a will but her step-mother did not file it. She just retained possession of everything that was his. This message board is for genealogy, not legal problems, so we aren't qualified to help with your problem.

Thanks for writing back, Ron. I am only just beginning this research. My mother (Ralph's daughter) died a few weeks ago. We never knew much about her father and his family as I guess he left my grandmother when she was quite young. I do vaguely remember meeting him once when I was a little girl but never knew much about him or the rest of his family. So I guess there a few out there though!
