looking for info Major Hollin in Simpson Co Petersburg Ky 1820 census. i think he might be Levan Hollin son of William Hollin b Md 1763. Levan's wife reported to be Lucy.Lucinda's maiden name unknown b abt 1795 Va. She would hsve married ?Hollin about 1811.
Mrs Lucy Holland married Charles Johnson meade Co Ky 1827. Charles Johnson became guardian for 3 children 1856. I believe these are her son, James Hollin's children. Names, ages verified by census. James b Ky 1812 married Nancy Simmons Meade Co Ky 1833. they are in Barren Co census Co Ky census 1830 and in Breckenridge Co Ky 1840 census. james, nancy and 4 of their children are in Tipton Co Tn 1850 census. Nancy must die around 1856, because that is when their grandparent Charles and Lucy Holland Johnson become 3 of the children's guardians.

Woodrow Hollin and Frances J. Deaton - KY

Looking for something that would confirm a marriage between these two. Frances J. Deaton was born 1862 in KY and died 1941 in KY. I believe her parents to be Martin Deaton and Carlista Hammons.

Woodrow Hollin has had a few different name spellings such as Hallin, Halland, and Hollin. He was born in 1861 KY and I do not have a death date for him. I believe his parents to be Elijah Hollandsworth and Elizabeth Silcox/Sycox.

Frances and Woodrow had 11 children that I am aware of: Chester, Katie, Cassie, Mary, William, Nellie, Sherley, Thomas, Laura, Vern and Mae.

Any info is much appreciated, thanks!
Pam,
If your grandfather's father's name was Jerry Hollin and his mother's Mariah Wright....then we are 3rd cousins. Your grandfather, Floyd and my grandfather Crittendon(Everett)were brothers. My grandfather was ONLY shown on the 1900 census. His death certificate gives his parents names as Jerry Hollin & Mariah Wright. Apparently my grandfather took his 2 daughters(by 1st wife who ran off and left him)and moved to Akron Ohio, and was disowned by the family. Until recently, I knew nothing of the family tree. If you can help.....please email me at; michelle110756@yahoo.com

Caroline,
Just responded to another of your posts from 2000. Our family found that there was another Everett Crittendon Hollin(same exact name as my father) living in the Cincinnati area. They were BOTH born in 1928! BOTH families came from the same area in KY. My father called this man(found in phone book) and tried to get some info.
The man was suspicious and only said he(too)didn't have any contact with his family. Since your family in in the Cincinnati area...I thought you might know something??
Michelle michelle110756@yahoo.com
Re: Hollin by birth

Caroline,
Your posting was 9 yrs. ago.....but I just started doing my Hollin family tree....so maybe you won't get this. My father is Everett Crittendon Hollin Jr, his father was Sr., and his father was Jerry Hollin(aka Jeremiah Hollinsworth) they came from Manchester, KY, which is in Clay Co. My grandfather came to OHIO to raise his family. It was said that his family disowned him for divorcing his first wife who ran off and left him w/2 little girls. What ever the true story is.....he never saw his family in Clay Co. again Now I'm looking for that family. Apparently Manchester had two sets of Hollin lines living there. I only found my grandfather's name on 1 census from 1900....and he was listed as Crittendon. His father was listed as Jerry Hollin, and his mother was Mariah Wright(this info matched his birth certificate, SO I had a match! I found his father and mother's marriage certificate, on which he wrote his name; Jerry Hollinsworth. I have found my fathers' first cousin(they are both 80 and 81)and my 3rd cousins living in Indiana....and we are emailing info to each other. I too was told by my grandfather that we had Indian blood in us. Most of the Indians in that area were from the Cherokee and Shawnee tribes.
IF you get this please email me at michelle110756@yahoo.com perhaps we can "enlighten" each other.

The Harrison Press (Harrison Ohio)
August 22, 1979
Page: 1

ONE KILLED; ONE IN SERIOUS CONDITION HEAD-ON COLLISION ON KILBY

A two-car head-on collision on Kilby Road early Saturday claimed the life of one man and seriously injured another.
Hamilton County Sheriff's Patrol reports that Rock Hollin, 23, 10906 Edgewood Road, Crosby Township, was dead on arrival at Cincinnati General Hospital.

The driver of the other car, Thomas E. Pearson, South Decatur St., Aurora, Indiana, a former Harrison Policeman, was listed in serious condition in the surgical intensive care unit at the same hospital on Monday afternoon.

The accident is still being investigated. According to the sheriff's patrol the Pearson car was southbound on Kilby Road in the 5900 block and was apparently attempting to pass another car on a curve. Hollin was traveling northbound at
the same time and when reaching the curve apparently saw Pearson in his lane so he swerved left into the southbound lane just as Pearson returned to that lane.
No charges have been filed according to the sheriff's patrol spokesman.
This is all I have. Louise Josephine Holland? born 1883 in either NY or NJ, depending on census. (Had dementia,so not sure). Says Dad from MD in 1920. Family story says father brought wife back from south with a black servant, not well received at home, sent back. Obviously, this is an earlier generation, since the civil war had been over for 20 years when Louise was born. Mother always listed as born in NY. Married around 1903 to Thomas Sherlock of MD (lived most of his life in PA). In OH for 1920 and 1930, can't find in 1910, but have Thomas as single in Cleveland in 1900. Died about 1930 (husband a widower at his death in 1935). IF this sounds at all familar, I would appreciate the help. Nancy

Origins of Hollin

I'm curious about the origins of the Hollin family name. There are postings on the system here listing Hollin names from mostly around the Britich Isles, but the Hollin I am looking for was from Germany in the later half of the 1800s. Does anyone else have German Hollin origins?

Hollins

My father's name was Jack Hollin. My birth cert indicates he was born 08/06/1904 or 1903. He died October 1966 in Safford, Ariz, and newspaper obit indicates DOB of 1890, in Georgia or Alabama. He told my Mom he was born in LaCrosse, Wis, his father Sam and mother Mary, who was supposedly half Indian (Native American). both Sam and Mary supposedly died in about 1911, leaving him an orphan. His father Sam supposedly came to US from Ireland. However, my father Jack Hollin was a drifter and a layabout and probably a liar as well, so none of the information I have may or may not be true. I've never met anyone else who knew him. My name is Mary Blanche Hollin, Pat is family nickname. Would be interesting to know if there's anyone else. Unfortunately, I don't have any other information at all.

Still on the quest! Since my last message here, I have discovered the names of some of my grandfather's brothers and sisters. Dates of birth seem to be in the twenties, and all are deceased, as far as I can tell.

My grandfather's name was the same as my fathers, that was James. He went by Jim. (his brother's referred to him as "Pork," even though he was as skinny as a rail) He married my grandmother Emma (don't know her maiden name) and they lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. Some of my grandfather's brothers are named Willie (for William or Willard, I don't know, but he was married to a woman named Kay) Another brother was named Ernest, nicknamed "pig" by his family, and his wife was Betty and they had a farm in Aurora, Indiana in the 1970's.
There were many other boys in this branch of the Hollin clan, though I cannot find out anything about them.
I beleive there was one sister, named Ruby or June.
If ANY of these names ring a bell with anyone, please let me know!
TIA
Caroline

Cousin Connie;
How is Aunt Nellie? My name is John Leonard as you can see above. My Mother is Mildred Hollins. Her Dad & my Grandpa was Thomas Sherley Hollins. He went by sherley all his life. He is Your Grandma Nellie's brother. That would make us second cousins.
I am sitting here in Plainfield IN with another of my (and your) second Cousin's. His name is Ottis Hollin JR. His dad was Ottis Hollin SR (Daaa). His grandfather was William Holt Hollin. He was also a brother of Aunt Nellie. Ottis and, I are somewhat the unofficial Family Historians of the Hollin(S) Family . Tell aunt Nellie you talked with Mildred's Son "Big John", That's what Grandpa Sherley used to call me. I can probably tell you just about anything you ewant to know about the Hollins Family. Including why they changed their name so may times. The original name was Hollingsworth.
Granddad said they weren't WORTH a darn ,so they dropped the worth. They have gone by Holland, Hollandsworth , and many other adaptations. Eli Got killed in the Civil war
at Cumberland Gap, TN. His dad's name was Perry Hollingsworth. His dad ( don't have my records handy I think his dads name was Issac.) died while homesteading a farm accross Interstate 70 from Plainfield In Morgan County, IN. The First order of Business of the probate Court of Morgan County,IN was to settle the Estate of the ancient setteler Hollingsworth . I think I met you once. But I can't remember which of Aunt Nellies Daughters is your mom. Was It Henrietta? How,s aunt Joan is she still goin down to LaFollett to take care of Aunt Nellie every other Week? Tell Aunt Nellie I found her Dads Woodson's grave. I put a small marker on it till I can get something better up in that Holler and set it on a good concrete base. Also found her Uncle Warren Parker's grave right next to GGP Woodson's. His given name was actually Woodward Hollingsworth. Drop me a line with any questions . LOL Cousin John & Ottis.

lots of Hollin Information........

Bill,
I have lots of info on the Hollin familey who settled in Oregon. My great grandfather came to the united states in 1918, so we have been handed down familey info from the old country, in fact my grandmother just returned from a visit to norway not long ago. If your roots in part come from norway I am sure we are related, if you are interested, please email me. Brent

Hollin by birth

My biological father's name is James D. Hollin. His mother was named Emma and he had two brothers, one was named Gary and I dont remember the other one's name. (I have lost contact) His fathers family was quite large, and came out of KY, with many of them moving to Indiana and Ohio. (cincinnati area) I distinctly recall family discussion that we descended from an American Indian tribe, and am looking for any information that would help me find out if this is true. Thanks!
