He was her cousin, but he had been adopted, so not a blood cousin. His parents are Homer Milton Dean and Grace Annette Brown Dean Steinbaugh.

Hope some of this helps. Please feel free to email me.
mazonsquilting@windstream.net if you want more info or photos of Ken, Louise or someone else.
Hi Gayle,

As I am cleaning up the tree and getting Louise's ancestors into my database, I realized I don't know where you fit into the line? You said your uncle was Ken Hollingsworth. I know his parents were Glenn Preston & Angelyn H. (Ashton) Hollingsworth but I have no other children for them. Also, do you have any idea where Ken is buried and if Louise is still alive?
I am at a dead-end with Guy Lewis Dart. besides his birthdate, I can find nothing on him - no death date/place/burial/marriage date. Do you know if they had other children besides Louise and her sister Dorothy Della?

Also, you said there are a lot of online public trees with Freda in them but I haven't located a single one if you could point me in the right direction??

Thank you. This has been fun actually finding relatives after a long dry spell :)

Jane

Thanks! I searched through the entire Mission Twp, 1940 census, ED 36-53 thru 36-56 and didn't find them. I DID find Guy Lewis DART's two brothers, Earl and George though. Also found 1 unrelated DART family. Ralph & Rose with children Robert and Sue Ann. Ralph b. in England and Rose b. in NY. It's possible they could be related but who knows. Ralph and Rose were in Los Angeles in 1935 according to the census, but I've never run across them before.

So sometime after the 1930 census, Guy Lewis & Freda left Lompoc, Santa Barbara Co, CA. In 1940 they are not in Lompoc and not in Mission Twp, San Bernardino Co, CA.

Yes, for me too. I keep a huge database of every DART I have ever run across and this is how I can sometimes make connections. I love it when this happens :)

I am currently trying to find out where everyone is in 1940. Mission Township in San Bernardino County seems to no longer exist and I can't find any clue as to where it used to be, or what other town might have absorbed it...

OK, that seems to be the problem...too long a post. Here is the first half:

Hi Gayle,

I pursued this a little further and now have a pretty clear picture of who Louise is. I found Guy & Freda on the 1930 census in Lompoc, Santa Barbara Co, CA Census with Louise and her sister in the household.
Notice that Louise’s tree starts with a DUDLEY and end with a DUDLEY!!

Louise’s family tree:

Richard & Bethia (Calkins) DART(E)
>Ebenezer & Mary (Golding) DARTE
>>John & Ruth (Moore) DARTE
>>>Ebenezer & Elizabeth "Eliza" (Miner) DART
>>>>>David & Mary (Fargo) DART
>>>>>>Robert & Sarah "Sally" (Stebbins) DART
>>>>>>>Sidney Tracy & Theodosia/Theodotia (Ray) DART
>>>>>>>>Lewis Sidney & Mary A.
Jane,

I am POSITIVE it is Freda H. Dart. As soon as I saw her name, I remembered that was it. When I was a teen, I wrote several letters to her after my visit with her.

This discussion has been very helpful. I have searched further here on Ancestry and I think Louise Dart Hollingsworth may still be living.

If you search for Freda Helen Dudley b. 3-24-1897 d. 10-18-1977 you will find several public trees with photos. I am quite sure this is the missing link for me. Hope it is for you, too.

Gayle

Hi Gayle,

Kenneth was my half 8th cousin twice removed (whew!), which is why I have him in my database. If you go up his line a bunch of generations to Thomas & Grace (Cooke) HOLLINGSWORTH, they were my 9th gr-grandparents. My maiden name is DART so you see why I was interested in Louise. Kenneth died in Orange Co, CA which is very near to where I grew up. I'm sure Louise may be related, but can't find out anything more about her.

I looked at my records for anything in San Bernardino and found 3 interesting ones:

1. Orville A. & Louise (Frizzell) DART lived in Yucaipa, San Bernardino, CA (his last residence) and Louise died 18 Jun 2011 in Rocklin, Placer Co, CA. Orville b. 1916, d. 18 Mar 2003 (don't know where). His wife Louise b. 21 Dec 1920 Colorado.

2. Another is Frank Menton/Mertain & Ellen (Hoy) DART. Frank b. 5 Aug 1886 Mapleton, Cass Co, ND, d. 8 Oct 1971 Los Angeles Co, CA. Ellen b. 6 Nov 1899 NE, d. 8 Jan 1983 Montclair, San Bernardino Co, CA, dau of Mr. & Mrs. (Rimmer) HOY. They are both buried at Rose Hills Memorial Cem in Whittier, Los Angeles Co, CA (next to San Bernardino).

3. and lastly, Freda H. DART (have no name for her spouse), Freda bur in Pioneer Memorial Cem, San Bernardino Co, CA -- her gravestone reads: MOTHER. Freda b. 24 Mar 1897 OR, d. 18 Oct 1977 Colton, San Bernardino Co, CA. Freda's SSN 553-21-5482 issued in CA.

Notice....Colton, which is where Ken & Louise were married!

If you find anything more about Louise or her parents, let me know!!

Jane

I am also looking for more information on Louise Dart, wife of Kenneth Hollingsworth. Ken was my uncle, but he passed before I ever had a chance to know him. I do have photos of him and Louise. I also met Louise's mother, whom I only knew as "Grandma Dart" (but she was not my grandma!) Louise's mother lived in the San Bernardino, CA area in 1970.

Ken and Louise were married in Colton, CA and never had any children. I believe Louise remarried after Ken died.

I have a photo of Ken and Louise's wedding day if you want a copy.

Gayle Lester McKay
mazonsquilting@windstream.net

Doug, you are correct about Charles. Why don't you check out my family tree which is Hollingsworth family tree. My father spoke lovingly about his Uncle Charles and Aunt Jennie. I have a picture of them together which I can scan if you want. Charles was my father's father's brother. Their father, Charles Hollingsworth was a cowboy who was killed when a horse kicked him in the head. He left four sons, one of which was your Charles, and a wife expecting a daughter. If you have any information dating farther back then Armlin Hollingsworth then I would greatly appreciate it.

I am trying to identify a Charles Hollingsworth, who lived in Arapahoe County CO in the 1930s.
This Charles was born c1890 in Texas. He had a wife named Jennie and apparently was childless. He worked for the railroad.
The closest match seems to be Charles, the son of Alice of Childress County, TX. I was wondering whether you knew enough about Charles son of Alice to tell whether I am on the right track.
Doug Hollingsworth

Hello
I also have an Elizabeth Hollingsworth who married a James Carlock on my tree. I have her parents listed as John Hamilton and Margaret Witherspoon. I was wondering if you had any information as to whether this is all correct? I got a bit confused with Elizabeth, I believe she was married to a Hollingsworth first then Carlock.

I am trying to identify the parentage of Ross Hollingsworth, who was born August 10, 1905 in Bay Missouri.
He lists his parents as J. B. and Frony Hollingsworth.
However, in the 1910 Census for Texas County, Missouri, Ross is in the household of Joshua B. Hollingsworth, listed as a grandchild.
There are two other males in the household, Fred and DeWitt, but no J.B.
Is J.B. another son of Joshua B., or is Ross a son of one of Joshua's daughters, thinking that Joshua was his father rather than his grandfather?
I think that this ties into your family.
Doug Hollingsworth

hi I am no longer a member of ancestry but would love to learn more about her for my mom who is now 76. Her dad was Charles Otto Reynolds and Sarah was his mother. the date had a typo, it should have said 1890 in the orig. post from 10 yrs ago.
All I know is she was told he had an Indian mother and white father, he remembered being raised on a Indian reservation for a while, perhaps when his dad was out playing solider? she never really knew too much about her fathers life and family. I would
love to see her and known more for my mother before she dies. she really was a daddies girl and he died when she was only 18 in 1954. rsoubiea@yahoo.com.

thanks for the message

I am not sure how much I can be.
I do know that there were Hollingsworths in Chelmsford at least as early as the 1700s and probably earlier. There are hints that they were active in the more extreme Protestant religious movements of that era.
There were Hollingsworths living near the Cambridge Hertford border as early as 1650 and some of their descendants settled in Essex in the 1800s. This family appears to have its roots in northern Lincoln.
Finally, in the late 1800s there were a mixture of Hollingsworths who moved to Essex from London. I have not spent much time sorting them out.
Doug Hollingsworth

I am really interested to receive any information about the Hollingsworth Family in Essex. My dads surname is Hollingsworth. HIs family lived in the brentwood area. The information you have given fits with my intuition - something has gone on at some point. I am anxious to find out anything I can before next weekend and would be grateful to hear what is known! I am going to check on the first names of my grandfather and his father with my dad.

Old threads die hard. James Hollingsworth was the stepfather of my great grandfather Thomas Kenchen Robbins. Family lore has it that James was a northern sympathizer and spied for the north. He was captured by southern solders who planned on executing him in the morning but he was able to escape during the night.
